Great family fun but we didn't see a whale! But we saw many playful dolphins and sea lions. The staff is very knowledgeable about sea life.

Always enjoy the whale-watching trip

We usually try to take a whale-watching trip whenever we visit the area, usually once or twice a year. We don't always see whales, but are never disappointed. We saw gray whales this trip. The dolphins are always around and very entertaining. Also, if the weather is good (and it usually is) the trip on the water and the fabulous view of the coastline make the trip worthwhile. The crew is always friendly and very informative.

The captain and staff were excellent. They knew where the whales were and followed them with great precision. It was unbelivealbe to my wife and myself how they could predict where and when they would surface. My wife got a great picture of the whales tail. A unusual and unique experience.

In addition to the beauty of the ocean and the ocean mammals, the captain and his commentary were impressive and entertaining. His knowledge of the mammals and the sea is extraordinary. Our little group highly recommends this experience and Dana Wharf Whale Watching.

Great experience

We made this trip several times before but this was one was the absolute best. We experienced a grey whale, a large pod of dolphins and also the large snub (?) nose ones besides several sea lions. The previous times we only saw the large dolphins. Explanations of what was going on were constantly given.

Winter Solstice trip on Catamaran was spectacular
Thu, Dec 22, 11   2:00 PM mzbadger Female 70+ Local Group of Friends
I go out with a group of 25 to 40 people every few months . on both the Catamaran and regular boat. Every trip is a little different like the moods of the sea. We almost always have lots of dolphins come to play, sometimes small pods and sometimes the ocean bubbles with 1000's of dolphins leaping and playing. The common dolphins always want to hang out with the boat. on the Solstice we saw two whales blow like Old Faithful and surface like islands rising out of the sea. Then we got "tailed". A bunch of porpoises showed up like they came for a play date. The captains are all terrific, keeping you well informed and going the extra mile to make sure you have the best experience possible. It's a great way to spend a few hours on the sea with our ocean dwelling friends and seeing our beautiful coastline.

ONCE IN A LIFETIME CHANCE
Tue, Oct 25, 11   2:00 PM jjbarr Female 70+ Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
We went out on a Tues (1/2 price day) and the crowd was small I am guessing due to the cold cloudy weather that morning. But we lucked out and it turned absolutely warm and sunny before 2PM when we left. The captain took us right out to the whales and before we knew what was happening we were surrounded by many whales of all types - blues, fins and humpbacks - all in the same area and popping up and spouting all around us. The Captain said it was the first time he has ever seen so many kinds of whales in the same location at one time doing antics together. They were spouting, rolling and spiraling at the same time. Very exciting to watch and so worth the time and trouble to go. We took lots of pictures but the best part is just sitting and watching it as it happens. I'll forever have the picture in my mind. Thanks for the wonderful deal. Best money we ever spent!

A good watch with unsual feeding behavior
Sat, Oct 22, 11   12:00 PM Toyookaed Male 70+ Local Other
This the first time I have observed surface feeding behavior with the blue whale. The whale displayed its ventral pleats usually with one pectoral fin up and half of its fluke out of water . The blue whale we observed did this repeatedly as the krill must have been near the surface which attracted the attention of the birds and the dolphins. This was an exceptional whale watch.

Danapoint whale watch 10/2011

I was expecting great weather but the fog rolled in early in the watch. We saw and got good looks of 3 blue whales and one fin whale. The visibility was somewhat diminished by the fog. The captain did an excellent job of getting great looks.

Had a great time, friendly group
Thu, Sep 29, 11   2:00 PM jitters2 Female 70+ Local Individual
Captain was friendly, knowledgable, and knew right where to take us to get the best view of the whale(s). Had several sitings, one pretty close up. Then seeing all the dolphins was at treat. Smaller group, which gives more opportunity to take pics and interact. Thoroghly recommend this trip.

Outstanding blue whale watch
Mon, Sep 19, 11   12:00 PM Toyookaed Male 70+ Local Unspecified
This trip encountered more blue whales, at least 12 different whales, close to shore than I have ever witnessed The captain did a particulary good job of getting close good looks of several selected whales. One whale showed us a fluke up dive every time it went on a deep dive. I saw more blues in Santa Barbara Channel about 4 years ago but that was much further out from shore and a much longer whale watch.

A memorable, lifetime experience

My extended family gathered for my birthday. We decided to go on the whale watching trip as a group activity -- 12 of us. Maybe we were lucky; but we saw seven whale flukes and countless porpoises, even baby ones, all around our boat. Our captain was eloquent in what he told us about all the animals and their behavior, which was of enormous help in understanding what we were seeing and knowing what to look for. I learned that there was a whole different world under our seas. It was truly and experience we will all remember for a lifetime.
