Dolphin Watching
Whale and Dolphin Watching Adventure Tour
Tue, Aug 18, 09   5:30 PM trevor123 Male 20-29 Local Group of Friends
This whale watching trip short changes to the max. They say if you dont see anything you will get another ticket to go out another time, however if you see ONE dolphin and nothing else, they will not refund you. We saw some dolphins and I guess that was better than not seeing anything at all however my group was very disappointed in the experience overall and will not use this company ever again. I would not reccommend unless you want to pay for a 2 1/2 hour standing boat ride only to see nothing. In my book I would give it half of a star out of ten.

Great time, not guaranteed, but will refund

The first time we went on the Dana Pride to see dolphins/whales was almost a dud - we only saw three or four dolphins at the end. HOWEVER, they were kind enough to give us our tickets back so we could come to another show. We went the next evening on the smaller boat (not the Dana Pride). We went the opposite direction of the Dana Pride and ended up seeing a blue whale - the largest known animal alive on the planet. It was a BEAUTIFUL experience, and I was in awe of the opportunity to see such an incredible animal in its natural habitat. We saw a few dolphins leaping and several sea lions, including some baby sea pups with their mom :) A member of our group went a different time and had a completely different experience - hundreds and hundreds of dolphins leaping out of the water and close to the boat! From my experience, each time spent dolphin/whale watching is unique because the animals are in the wild, not trained to perform like puppets. To me, that is more precious than any "Sea World" show.

Fantastic! Great orientation breakfast with Todd

I am a travel agent in BC Canada and we booked a tour plus orientation breakfast with Captain Todd. Could have sat and listened to him all day but a boat was calling our name! Great weather, and fantastic time out on the water. Saw whales and dolphins and spectacular coastal scenery. Really enjoyed it and for the price of $45 pp this is well worth it. Would do it again in a heartbeat. I will be recommending this area to clients who plan a trip in Southern California as it's definitely something they can do while enjoying a Disneyland vacation. I plan to connect with Todd and build a working relationship with Dana Wharf with the hopes of perhaps a group tour at some time. Tiffany in the office was a great help with giving directions and information when I called with questions before the tour. Thanks Tiffany! Look forward to doing another tour on another visit to this beautiful area.

Great date event

The captain and crew were very friendly and helpful with our fishing lines whenever we caught a fish or the lines got tangled. The food on board was great as well. If you take a date she has no where to go for 5 hours...she's stuck on the boat. :) J/k...it was a fun trip for us.

Dont be turned off by the rude girl in the office
Sun, Jun 17, 12   2:00 PM TRadek Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
We almost didnt book the tour because of the rude woman in the office that we talked to in person when we stopped by to find out about the tour. But instead, did not book tour then, cause she was so short with us and made us feel like "who cares if you book with us or not, but make a decision, cause I have better things to do than talk to you tourists", We live in a VERY touristy area in the rocky mountains, so I know how employees and "owners" can be, and how it doesnt always mean you will be treated badly on your tour just because the person you book it through is rude..so instead, I went back to our condo, looked on line and booked it, being optimistic, and we were SO glad! We went for the tour, and the crew was great, we had a great time, and even though we did not spot whales, it was still a blast, we saw LOTS of dolphins, the crew had lots of great knowledge, we got out on the ocean, and when we got off the boat they gave us a coupon to come free another time, being true to their word that if you dont spot whales you can go free again! Impressed They stood behind their guarantee to see whales! We went the next day, had JUST as great a time, and got to see some whales! we enjoyed the cataraman boat more than the other boat (we did one one day, and the other the next), it just seemed smoother. But either was great and I would do it again. My only suggestion, book online, avoid the office lady so you wont be turned off by the office lady experience, and have a great time! Also, dont book at the end of your trip in case you get to go out again for free!! Cudos to the crew for a job well done, and prayers for the others who have to work in the office with her, i hope you are paid well!!

Fantastic!

Crew was great. Saw several whale flukes. Saw Gray whale mom and calf along with several schools of playful bottlenose dolphins. One dolphin even performed a great flip out of the water! Learned what a "footprint" was and will continue to look for that.

The cost for the trip is in line with other whale watching trips I've experienced. We saw two gray whales and were able to follow them for about 30 minutes. We also saw a group of sea lions on one of the buoys a short distance from the harbor. We did not see any dolphins on this trip. The narrator was very informative not only about the gray whales we saw, but also about Dana Point in general. Overall, the ride, by itself, was amazing! I highly recommend the Dana Warf Whale Watching trip.

Would have preferred to have caught larger fish, however, I understand that seasonal fishing has been poor recently. The trip was fun and educational. Had a great time! This was my first ocean fishing trip and because it was such a positive experience, I will do it again!

We all had a great time and found the guides very educated regarding the dolphins and sea lions we saw. We did not see a whale which was disappointing. Maybe the activity should be called "Ocean adventure" instead of a Whale Watch because there is no guarantee a whale will be seen, yet that's what you're selling.

OMG - Orcas

My two friends from Texas and I had the privilege and honor to be on the Dana Wharf whale watching trip that got to experience the pod of Orcas off the coast of Dana Point on January 3, 2012. It is definitely an event that goes in all of our Top Ten Most Exciting Events of our lives. The Captain and staff were outstanding. I wish future watchers the luck that we had to be part of a rare event such as this.

Glimpses of a few fin whales
Fri, Nov 4, 11   11:00 AM Toyookaed Male Unspecified Local Unspecified
This was the 11:00 am whale watch on the Dana Pride, instead of the catamaran. We had brief glimpses of several fin whales. The watch was hampered by rain and windy weather. Overall, it was not a good whale watch.
