Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching

Although we didn't see any whales we did see a large pod of dolphins that played around with the boat for a while. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and shared many stories. I was disappointed about the whales, they will continue to be a mystery to me but enjoyed my trip none the less.

I would recommend this trip. I had never done any type of activity like this before and I thought it was really neat. We only saw one pod of dolphins but even at that it was worth it. They were so cool and lots of babies too!!

Trip was awesome. Both kids caught their first fish which was great. Crew was great and the people at the office were great. In fact I had actually booked on the wrong day (my fault), but since there was room they let us go.

We loved our trip. We got to see a large pod of dolphins...right next tot he boat. it was fabulous! The crew and boat were great, really made the trip that much better! Only wish we got to see whales...just means we have to come back for another visit! I highly recommend this trip!

Unfortunately my family did not have a great time. While I love to fish, I decided to bring my husband and 2 older teenagers to let them experience this as well. It was their first time, unfortunately, it's probably their last time. There were so many people on the boat, that lines continually got tangled in your "neighbors" line. The crew was nice, the captain was nice and he kept moving the boat in hopes that we would catch something. Some people caught keepers, red snapper, sheephead, etc. Next time I plan to take a trip with fewer people, therefore allowing me to actually cast my line instead of just dropping from the side of the boat.

We had a great day. The snacks were reasonable and people informative and enjoyable.

We were happy that we saw dolphins playing and racing along the boat, Whale was a disappointment though.

We appreciated the friendly service and the on-time departure and arrivals.

I really wanted to see a blue whale. The captain and crew certainly did try to find one for viewing. However, it was not the morning for us to see one. Dolphins, dolphins and more dolpnins played along side our boat. It was great. There were a lot of mothers with their babies. I started to try to take a lot of pictures and then just quit so I could enjoy the fabulous experience. We also saw several sunfish and California sea lions. It was a wonderful trip on a very clean boat with a super crew. I would recommend doing this morning trip to everyone who has the opportunity to be at Dana Point.

Dana Wharf Sportfishing is a great way to take your kids fishing. Our Sunday trip included about 25 children of all ages. Everybody had fun. It was safe, clean and, for us, a really special day. My younger son, 6 years old, is deaf. Crew guys Mark and Evan - both of whom have connections to the deaf community - were simply brilliant. They used some sign language and did everything they could to communicate and help him understand how to fish. They helped my son feel incredibly comfortable... even helped him catch two fish!!! My older son, 10, caught only one fish -- but it was the biggest of the day. He won the Jackpot!!! Do your family a favor -- go!

Wonderful trip. Didn't see any whales the first day so we got free 'reschedule' tickets and we went out the next day. Saw hundreds of dolphins and had a wonderful boat ride. Excellent value for the money and very friendly and professional staff. Highly recommend a trip.

We enjoyed our whale watching cruise but unfortunately did not see any whales. The person on the microphone commented that not only were there no whales but the wildlife in general seemed especially quiet. As avid whale watchers we appreciated that that's a chance you take when going whale watching but were disappointed nonetheless. We were given our tickets back. We live out of the area so not sure if we'll ever use our tickets but appreciated the gesture.

About five minutes into our adventure, we were entertained by a group of California sea lions relaxing on a buoy. Shortly thereafter, we saw dolphins diving and swimming. There must have been one hundred of these loveable, beautiful, graceful creatures. And, to top off our trip, we saw four magnificient blue whales. Words can not describe the beauty we beheld. Our two crew members were very personable and professional. It was clear that they were as excited as all of us about seeing nature's incredible gifts. The catamaran was the perfect size and everyone on board was able to see everything. It's a great ride! We are planning another trip to California to see the grey whales, and will book with Catamaran Adventure Cruises.

We cannot stop talking about our whale watching trip! The boat was nice, not too crowded, the crew was wonderful and the trip itself was something to remember. We took our 3 year old son out and he had a blast! He got a great spot right up front where he could see everything. The crew had seen a whale on their previous trip out so they took us immediately to that same spot. We were lucky -- the whale was still there! We followed a huge blue whale for an hour. We were so close and got the most amazing pictures. The crew was great about telling us all about the whale and let us know exactly when and where to watch for it. Incredible experience! We will go again! Remember to take jackets, though. It's much colder on the water!
