Our family took the evening trip on the Dana Pride, a very roomy and clean boat with plenty of viewing room. Unfortunately we did not find whales on our trip, but ran with several pods with hundreds of common dolphins. My 6 year old daughter was thrilled for the entire trip and the experience was one well worth the price of admission...crew was very nice and helpful, explaining what we were seeing at every step of the way.

Good for the price

We went on the 5 hour fishing trip on a Tuesday so the cost was very reasonable . Not sure the total number of people fishing when we went. Two of my sons each caught a bass and three of us didn't catch anything. The boat was crowded and lines did get tangled. The crew was very quick and curteous to untangle the lines. Also, they were very willing to offer advice and answer any questions. The hamburgers on board were very good! I would recommend Dana Wharf Sport Fishing because the staff on the boat does everything they can to help you catch fish. If you don't catch fish, it's because the fish are not bitting, or you are not following their instructions.

If you have ever had the urge to ocean fish, but are intimidated because you have never done it before or have only had a couple of experiences, or are afraid of the cost, this is the trip for you. The crew is patient, not arrogant, and very knowledgeable. They will help you, the kids, the wife, etc. rig your line, provide the right bait, unhook your fish, clean and filet it, all for under $40.00 per person, not including tip. The boats are clean, the food is good and the bathrooms are also clean. The half day boat only is out 5 hours, about the attention span of young children. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays are the least crowded usually. Go and have a ball.

Great Father Son Time

My son and I had not been fishing in years. This was great fun. Caught fish without most of the work and hassle of clean and unhooking them. It was also a beautiful day on the water. The crew was on their toes helping everyone and we had absolutely no issues. Next time we are going out on the 3/4 day boat. The half was too short.

The captain was fabulous

We were only 15 minutes from the harbor when we spotted the first whale. The captain explained what we were seeing and stayed in the area until it "sounded". We witnessed the fluke as it dove down. Then we sailed to another spot where there were hundreds of dolphins swimming and jumping. They continued quite some time and the whole time the captain was sharing information. This was the most awesome experience and even now I get goose bumps! I had read about this activity prior to arriving in California from Oregon. I wanted to make a memory with my niece and nephew, this excursion provided that. On the way back into the harbor we spotted another variety of dolphin , sea lions and another whale. What an incredible experience. Thank you so much. This was beyond my expectations.

Slow-paced, but educational

We enjoyed the trip, but it is definitely an "eco-tour" as opposed to a "good times tour." The tour took us into a pod of dolphins, which were really fun to watch, then the captain spotted a HUGE blue whale and we hung out near the whale and watched it breach and dive, breach and dive, breach and dive (you get the picture...) It was amazing, but 45 min. watching one whale, all the while bobbing in the swells, was a bit much. The little girl next to me "lost her lunch" overboard. Personally, I would have preferred moving on after seeing the whale for a short while (you can only see a tiny portion of the whale's back) and finding some more dolphins. They seem to want to entertain you! Anyway, if you have whale enthusiasts, go on this tour. If you are just looking for a fun ride or if you have a tendency toward sea-sickness, I'd not advise it.

Just okay for our group.

We're pretty seasoned whale watchers (B.C., Mass., Alaska . . . ) and didn't have our expectations met. There was no narration at any point on the trip out to see the whales. We did see some blue whales, but went out so far to see them that we had very little time to spend watching them. There was narration during the watch part, but only one little bit on the way back when we came across some sea lions sleeping on a buoy. Would have been nice to know as we went along where we were geographically (Newport Beach, Malibu?).

Blue whale-June 14

A great time. Spent about 30 minutes watching the blue whale we found-then headed back and watched about 100 dolphins. Good boat and informative captain. This was the evening cruise which was the determining factor for us using this seller.

1/2 Day Fishing Trip with my son
Tue, Jun 9  10:00 AM jwmadrid06 Male 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
We took the later 1/2 day trip, which left at 10:00 am. We got there early and were the first in line, therefore we got the first choice of fishing spots on the boat. We enjoyed the fishing trip, because it was a beautiful day and we were catching fish. The crew was good, because as soon as fishing died at 1 location we quickly moved to the next spot. We were not disappointed at the catch, although we would have been happier with more fish. The highlite of the trip was when one of the passengers caught a Halibut that weighed in at 27 lbs (biggest I've seen). The 1/2 day trip was just long enough time for me to fish and enjoy the scenery. I would recommend this trip.

OCean Adventures made for a great Girls Night Out
Mon, May 18  6:00 PM melindastone Female 50-59 Local Group of Friends
Our ladies networking group meets monthly for dinner at local restaurants. We decided this time to do something different. The sunset harbor cruise made for a fun evening with the most gorgeous scenery in Southern California--and a great change of pace. The crew was great and rates were reasonable. This boat has a fabulous layout for a party-boat. The pictures don't do it justice. It is more spacious than it appears and has great seating arrangements. You have to see the inside to realize what a great "floor plan" it has - which works out very well for a social event. Perfect for groups of 15-50.
