| We had a great time and yes we saw several whales. The amount of people on the boat was just right with everyone able to see because it wasn't crowded. We went during the Festival of Whales and the whole event was wonderful and we hope to make it again next year! | ||||||

Great Boat - But No Whales!

| The boat was great, very clean and the crew was nice. Unfortunately due to the dense fog, even at noon-time, no whales or dolphins were seen. The group is honoring their guarantee and as long as we don't lose our ticket we can try again in the same season with no expiration date. | ||||||

| this was everything the web site promised and more. I especially liked that the boat was not overbooked (in peak season) and therefore not overcrowded. There was plenty of room for my 8 year old daughter to be able to see. Wonderful activity for children, very educational and exciting. | ||||||

| don't purchase the ticket unless you're absolutely sure that you will make it on the boat. their ridiculous no refund/no exchange/no reschedule policy is completely unreasonable. my date and i purchased tickets and as we arrived at dana point she began to not feel well. even so, we could not even get a refund...we didn't even go on the boat!! | ||||||

| I have lived in Orange County for more than two years, and I wish that I had done this before. My cousin and grandmother came to visit from out of state, and I booked the the tour/cruise for the three of us. The weather was beautiful, the view of Dana Point from the ocean looked like a painting, and the dolphins and whales did not disappoint. We saw 4-6 gray whales and a huge pod of common dolphins. The crew/staff were very friendly and knowledgable. Also, the cruise does not interfere with the animals travel patterns or harass nature just for a photo-op. | ||||||

No whales but still fun

| If you want to get a seat, get there early (at least 45 mins). There is very limited seating available on the upper deck. Otherwise, be prepared to stand by the rail for 2 hours. The seating area below deck is very stuffy and will make you seasick even if you are not. Use the restroom before you leave shore. We saw lots and lots of beautiful common dolphins - that made the trip - no whales. The guide didn't have much to say but we didn't care. We paid half price on Tuesday night so it was worth it. We all had fun. Would do it again. | ||||||

| 6:30 half day trip-Full boat, decent crew and good intentions. Just no luck. 3-4 keepers for entire boat of about 30 anglers. I caught a small white bass but had to throw it back. Crew threw out lures and hooked a bunch of barracuda near the kelp beds to keep it interesting but just no luck. I will definitely give it another chance. | ||||||

| the crew was nice and my whole group had a great time with all of us catching plenty of fish... we would def. do this trip again soon. Moved around to a few different spots and the captain made up for it by extending the time out there with no pressure on time.... great day on the water. | ||||||

| There are two ways to rate this fishing trip. 1) the quality of the service provided and 2) the results. 1) This was a half-day trip. What I liked about it was that the boat did not spend a lot of time traveling. A short trip out to where the fish were suspected to be, some repositioning to stay on top of the fish and then a short trip back to the dock. The one deckhand worked hard and did his job well. Purchased food was well prepared, fish-cleaning and filleting was quick, fish were removed from the hook and put in your bag for you. Plus, rigging 'help' was offered if it appeared that you needed it or asked for it. Overall rating of service provided: (considering the ratio of customers to deckhands) Better than Average. 2) I have results rated separately because good or bad results can influence one's opinion of the service provided. If you haven't been on a trip like this before, realize that the captain can go to spots that typically hold fish, recommend techniques, and provide bait - but it is still up to the fish to bite and you to catch them. Sometimes they bite and sometimes they don't. I think this spot was known to be a good spot for sculpin. Fortunately, we were catching just enough fish to keep us on the spot. (SCULPIN--aka 'rattlesnake' for the 6 hours of intense pain it can inflict if one of its spines jab you. Sculpin fillets are very popular for eating as they have a light, tasty meat that's not too 'fishy'.) My personal luck wasn't very good: three keeper (10" minimum) sculpin in the bag, double that released for under size limit, and a few small tom cod and queenfish released. Overall rating of results: Below Average considering the size of the jackpot fish, the quantities of fish in the bags, and my personal results. (I've had better 1/2 day results.) If you are considering a half-day fishing trip, understand that local 1/2 day fishing doesn't typically provide big fish or large numbers of fish. Your chances for either of those is better when you go on a longer trip. That being said, this dock provided well for this 1/2 day trip. Parking for this dock is inconvenient. There is a special area available, but it is a few hundred yards away. The inconvenient part is that the dock needs to provide you with a special card to place on your dash so that you don't get towed for exceeding the four hour maximum. That means leaving your gear in your vehicle while you get your ticket and parking card or you leave it at the dock while you hike back to your vehicle to put the parking card on the dash. I have an open bed pickup truck so in my case, either option leaves my gear unattended and susceptable to theft. I chose leaving it outside the dock's shop and it was fine. If there were more than one in your party, this problem could be easily avoided. The convenience of viewing the calendar, reading reviews and purchasing the ticket online was very nice. I recommend to all docks to do the same. | ||||||

| The trip was pretty much like I expected it to be. As an avid outdoorsman I know that wild animals don't travel by a set schedule and their actions can be un-predictable. I am sure many tourists expect to see about 100 whales per trip, all with their flukes about 15 feet out of the water for 10 seconds each so cameras can be focused. In a perfect world...right. We saw whales, the crew was pleasant...we had a good time. We got a few good photos....the price was right. All good stuff. Thanks | ||||||
