Perfect day on the water, BUT no fish!
Tue, Feb 3  10:00 AM antgutierrez Male 40-49 Unspecified Individual
Crew and Captain was great and helpful. Ended up fishing 3 or 4 different spots with only a few fish catching live mackeral on cut squid. Pelican's were a pest! Weather and water was perfect conditions, but fish were not biting. If I visit the area again (from N. Cali) I will definetely use this charter again. Thanks Anthony

Although we didn't see any whales on this trip, we did see several pods of dolphins. The guide was knowledgeable and entertaining. We arrived early and were able to switch to the first ship out without any problems. The service people were friendly and very helpful.

The whale watching was a great experience, the Dolphins were an additional bonus and were out of this world to watch. Thanks to the crew, they were very helpful.

We did not see any whales, but did see dolphins and sea lions. The day was beautiful and the trip was a fun two hours in spite of the lack of whales.

The crew was very friendly. The boat was large and clean with plenty of places to sit and view the water. I would have hoped for a little more information on the marine life via the man on the PA but the relative quiet was nice too. If the boat were smaller, I think it would have been possible to get a little closer to the whales and not disturb them. It was a nice couple hours on the water and the bloody mary was great.

We tracked one whale and the crew did a great job at explaining the tendencies of the whale and got us in good position to see it.

Interesting Experience
Tue, Jan 6  10:00 AM captainjosh Male Under 20 Local Group of Friends
All in all, an interesting experience. For me, it was my first time fishing, so it was exciting to learn how to fish and to catch my first fish. Fishing was in general a bit slow, but that was probably due to factors beyond the crew's control, such as the season, the reality of over-fishing, and the necessary relative proximity to shore. The crew was generally quite helpful, assisting customers in taking in and preparing their caught fish and informing customers about the various fish they caught. It was also good to know that they used radar to detect schools of fish so as to enhance the chances that we could catch some. One note: if you happen to catch any mackerel, which is fairly likely since they are quite a common fish, they will most likely tel you that it is a no-good fish. However, there are plenty of recipes online of how best to cook mackerel and I must say, it is actually a very tasty fish, and fairly healthy as well! High in Protein and Omega 3 fatty acids. So keep any mackerel you may catch!

Zerve misrepresented tour information
Fri, Jan 2  2:00 PM sunisankara Male 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
We went whale watching on Jan 2 2009. While purchasing tickets we asked Zerve if the tour had any success in spotting whales in the last couple of trips, and they confirmed that the tour had spotted whales the past few days. We then bought tickets and took the tour. The tour was good as in we saw a lot of dolphins and seals. We did not spot any whales. When I asked the tour guide about it, he said that they had not spotted any whales in the last 2 1/2 weeks. The tour itself is very engaging and you get up and close with the dolphins. You also get to see seals up and close. I am just very disappointed at how zerve duped me into purchasing the tickets in the first place.

Well managed logistics

The process was professional and the crew very competent While on the excursion, was told that this "really isn't the time to look for whales, that comes in a month or two" by a local who regularly liked to take the trip to study dolphins, or so he said. If that is true, I think it would be better for the company to highlight that fact.

No whales and short on porpoises
Tue, Dec 30, 08   10:00 AM JSHarper Male 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
It was a terrific day in Southern California to be on the water: clear, warm, beautiful!!! The boat and staff were great! We really enjoyed a nice cruise. Sadly, no whales -- not something anyone can guarantee, of course. Then, in the final 5 minutes of the cruise -- just in time to save the refund(!) -- we happened upon a couple of porpoises. As we disembarked, the staff wished each of us a Happy New Year AND reminded us over and over again that we had seen a couple of porpoises. I wouldn't have minded so much if the boat company weren't so blatant about protecting their refund policy.

Just didn't see any whales! Saw dolphins.

The organization and process of ticketing, boarding, and disembarking was great. The crew was nice and they tried hard to find some whales in the two hour cruise. We spotted some riso dolphins near the end of the cruise and got up close for some good pictures of them. The ship was clean and comfortable. They did give us a $5 discount on fishing or whale watching later on.
