No Whales, But Really Enjoyable!

Unfortunately , we did not see whales during this trip. At the beginning of the trip we saw a number of sea lions sun-bathing on a buoy close to the dock. After which we briefly saw two bottlenose dolphin. It was only a glimpse though, and they were not very curious or friendly. Most of the trip after this was uneventful. We didn't see anything, but we did enjoy the trip. The boat was really relaxing and calming in the way it rocked back and forth. This downtime made for a romantic time for my girlfriend and I. Towards the end of the trip in the last 30 minutes we did get to see something awesome. A flock of pelicans and a school of 200+ dolphins were working together to snack on a school of bait fish. It was amazing watching these animals work in tandem with each other. These were common dolphins and were friendly to the boat. They raced all alongside of us, in our wake, and played along the bow. It was great watching them leap about. We then headed home. As someone who has never seen dolphins in the wild before, this was a great experience which I'd definitely recommend. We will definitely be coming back in the peak of whale watching season later on in the year.

Great trip!

Shortly after leaving the harbor we entered a "superpod" of common dolphins, estimated at 3,000 to 4,000 strong. We stayed with the pod for the next 45 minutes as they darted and leapt around the boat. It was an amazing sight.

No Whales

I enjoyed the trip but only saw Dalphins and I thought that this was a whale watching trip. I did not like the notice that if you did not see any whales or dolphins then you get a free trip. You will always see dolphins in the ocean as I have talked to others that have taken the trip but we wanted to see whales.

Where are the fish?
Tue, Sep 1  6:30 AM pchargualaf1 Male 50-59 Local Unspecified
Even though I ended up catching the "jackpot" fish and mind you, it was the last fish caught as the skipper was hoisting the anchor, the fishing should have been alot better. We were the last boat out the docks (7:00am) and lost valuable time fishing. We wasted too much time fishing in spots that had no fish. The bait was bigger than the fish we were catching. The skipper should have taken us to the "Kelp Patties" where there are always fish instead of wandering around. Even little fish that can be caught and thrown back will be a thrill for the kids on board this boat. SOMETHING IS BETTER THAN NOTHING. THIS IS NOT ONE OF THOSE DAYS THAT "A BAD DAY OF FISHING IS BETTER THAN A GOOD DAY AT THE OFFICE". IT IS CALLED FISHING BUT WASTINGN TIME IS NOT MY IDEA OF A GOOD DAY FISHING.

Deep sea fishing, but not many fish
Sat, Oct 20, 07   12:00 PM paulniehouse Male 50-59 Local Family With Children
A great trip with the kids (9 & 11). They caught a decent number of small fish and had fun doing it. As far as actually getting some fish to take home and eat, it didn't happen.

We would have liked to go farther out to find more fishing potential. Didn't catch much worth keeping. Maybe the boat needs a Fishfinder.

Lots of fun for a first timer

Everything was great. Dana point is very beautiful area to fish. Also, the deck workers were awesome. Not once did I have to pull a hook from a fishes mouth, and they were very helpful with line tangles. And being a beginner, there were alot of tangles. Thanks for making this day special and my dad I will be returning soon.

I was disappointed in that the fishing was poor and I thought that at those spots where we encountered seals and sel lions that we ought to have moved, for my experience, althought it is alaska, tells me that when you are in the company of seals and sea lions, the fish are no where to be found. As a newcomer to your area, it would also have helped perhaps to give us an idea of where you were going to fish. You cant do much about those days when the fishing is poor, so take my thought with a grain of salt. Paul Costello Fairbanks
