Whales only at 12:00

Whales were only at 12:00 only the people on the front of the boat got to see them but the people on the sides and back only got a glimpse. People in the front of the boat pushed the small children out ot the way and they didn't get to see. Next time spin the boat around a little.

It was a beautiful day to be on the ocean. Despite seeing no whales, we thoroughly enjoyed the dolphins, the ride and the crew.

We saw a whale, the same whale four times as it came up for air. There were many dolfin swiming and jumping along side the boat. We had a great time. Of course, a whale sighting is not for certain, but our outing was great.

We couldn't believe the amazing two for one deal offered by Dana Wharf . A two hour cruise out of Dana Point on a lovely April afternoon would have satisfied. It being so late in the whale watching season, we were optimistic, but not resolute. Soon out of port, the ship was surrounded by pods of playful dolphins, riding the wake, jumping and frolicking all around. The captain had to circle and speed so we could leave the dolphins to their feeding, but they kept following! When the cruise seemed to be winding to an end without sight of whale, one very determined passenger at the bow of the ship spotted a breach in the water surface on the distant horizon. The captain immediately stopped the engine and all aboard waited eagerly staring transfixed at the "footprint" left on the water. Soon emerged a nursing mother gray whale and her calf. She was returning back north with her newborn by her side, surfacing often with a spray. While the ship was drifting with no propulsion the whales swam ridiculously close by and seemed almost interested in the vessel full of curious stares floating in their pathway. It was a wonderful and memorable once-in-a-lifetime experience, even the crew was genuinely excited.

It was good!

We saw a big nursery pod of dolphins which was great. My girlfriend and other friends loved them. We saw a grey whale with a calf and they liked them too but when we watched them surface for about 5-10 seconds every few minutes for a half hour it was a bit repetitive. It was good, we came to see whale and we saw them. Thanks a lot!

If you have ever had the urge to ocean fish, but are intimidated because you have never done it before or have only had a couple of experiences, or are afraid of the cost, this is the trip for you. The crew is patient, not arrogant, and very knowledgeable. They will help you, the kids, the wife, etc. rig your line, provide the right bait, unhook your fish, clean and filet it, all for under $40.00 per person, not including tip. The boats are clean, the food is good and the bathrooms are also clean. The half day boat only is out 5 hours, about the attention span of young children. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays are the least crowded usually. Go and have a ball.

Not Impressed

After the trip was over and we had not seen whales, I felt that I had been had. We were told that we would get a free trip if no whales or dolphins were seen. The first thing the ship did was head out and show us dolphins, which was nice, but not what we had come to see. Then the next hour was spent cruising around supposedly looking for whales. I think they knew there weren't any whales in the area at that time and rather than be truthful up front and since they obviously sell tickets each day whales or no whales, it is a bit of a hustle.

The crew really made efforts to show us the blue whale and we saw where it was (water spout) but the whale wasn't so cooperative in coming above the surface! The crew then made a successful effort to catch up with a pod of dolphins and we were able to watch the dolphins on both sides of the boat swimming and jumping out of the water. This was a neat experience! The boat was not too crowded so it made viewing easy. I would recommend this cruise to others.

We thoroughly enjoyed our cruise. We loved having a marine biologist on board to tell us what we were seeing and to answer questions. The captain made every effort to get us to where we were able to see about 30 minutes of blue whale activity even though it meant we would be a little late getting back. It made the cruise that much more enjoyable. The crew was friendly and helpful and the catamaran was clean and comfortable. We had a great time.

Boat personnel were great, but the ocean was rough

The weather had been beautiful, up to the day we had scheduled our whale watching tour. A big storm was coming in, and the ocean was very rough. Several in our group got seasick, as did many others on the boat. We did not see any whales or dolphins. But the good news is that we were given a return trip ticket for free, which is good forever (as long as we don't lose it). We have been whale watching before, and had a wonderful time. Just our luck to get bad weather! We do plan to go again. The crew and employees were great, the boat was clean and roomy.
