An amazing experience and people at Dana Wharf are excellent, already planning to go back and take the trip again in november. Very satisfied it was worth every penny.

We saw a huge pod of 500 dolphins, and we saw a very large blue whale. It was really a special day and the captain was very knowlegeable about the sea life we saw. I went with my 84 year old mother and my 16 year old daughter. A great activity for young and old!

My daughter and I came from Texas and this was our first trip into the Pacific, let alone to view whales and other sealife. We were not disappointed! Our guide was informative and enthusiastic. The catamaran was very nice with plenty of room for everyone to see the whales. I was definitely glad we took the time for this excursion.

Great Grandkid Outing

I took my 4 grandkids from Seattle. (ages 12-16). The first spot had minimal fish, then the captain moved the boat and it was GREAT FISHING. The kids had a phenomenal time and I am nominated for Grand Parent of the Year. The deck hands were right there when we needed them everything from tangled lines to taking the fish off. THEY made it truly enjoyable.

Great Fishing Adventure

I always like fishing with the crew from Dana Sports Fishing! They do an excellent job and are the best in the area.....I could easily go north and use a different charter company but the crew on the Dana Wharf boats are much more helpful.....so I make a longer drive to fish with them. The only drawback on this recent trip is a packed boat....don't like it when it is full and only have two crew to help.

We all had fun. Howver, the guys assisting the group, didn't appear to have to much patience. They also made us feel like we were bothering them when we had a problem. I brought my 10 year old son, and they didn;t do much to help him or explain anything about what to do or how to do it. They also didn't help my wife very much. None of us had ever been deep-sea fishing and told them that. But it didn't appear to make any difference. The food, burgers, was actually very good.

We all had a great time. Crew and staff very helpful. Only problem was that we had two seniors in our party and they could have used some seating. 5 hours was a long time for them to remain standing.

The Grandkids did not want to go but ended up loveing it. The operators searched and searched for a Blue Whale but could not find one. However the did not give up until we found a pod of dolphins.

Cruising up Dana Point and Laguna Beach to track a wonder of nature, a Blue Whale in all its magnificent "gentle" glory, was just spectacular. A few dolphins raced along side of the catamaran as the captain brought us about as close as you can get to the biggest creature in the history of the world...

I had wonderful time. First time whale watching and we were able to see 3 blue whales. I was told by the crew that it was rare to see more than 1. the crew was great, fun and enthusiastic. Will take the kids again in the future!

This was my second time and it was just as wonderful as the first time! Dan was there again and he took great care of us. The rest of the guys were always around and were very helpful. The only sucky part is the newbies who got tangled up with us constantly......aarrgh! Highly recommend the 6:30 am boat as opposed to later in the day!

Nice Day Out On The Water
Sun, Jul 27, 08   12:00 PM gcram399 Male 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
We have fished similar boats out of Virginia Beach and Long Island NY on the east coast many times. The biggest difference from the Dana Point boats compared to the Long island/ Virginia Beach Boats is that they are alot narrower and lack outside seating for the passengers for an enjoyable ride out to and back from the fishing spots. Standing body to body for 5 straight hours can really put a damper on an otherwise perfect day. One other thing that is different is that the Dana Point Boats allow people to bring their own gear. When everyone uses different weight sinkers there are quite a lot of lines getting tangled. New York and Virginia boats provide the same tackle for everyone with the 1/2 day package. It makes for more time fishing and less time untangling lines. Virgina Beach and Long Island 1/2 day trips cost less than $30.00 per person. Our trip for the 2 of us with tackle rental and a one day non resident fishing license cost 3 times that amount. We did catch 4 nice sand bass and most of the other fishermen caught nice fish also. Very nice scenic trip. The boat mates were excellent. and right there when you needed them. The galley food was fresh and had a good taste. We enjoyed it and will do it again.
