Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching

The kids (ages 11, 9 ,3) all loved their first Ocean Adventures whale-watching trip in Dana Point, CA. We saw 2 large pods of dolphins (50+ dolphins in each group), however, there was only 1 reported sighting of a whale in the far distance. We understand that these are wild animals and that there is no guarantee of what wildlife you will see. The captain brought us down south to Black Rock to see the Sea Lions sunbathing on the rocks. The kids couldn't stop talking about the dolphin sightings on the ride home and we hope next time to see some whales. All-in-all the experience was a real hit.

It was a very well done trip with a very competent crew. I only rated it less than enthusiastically recommended as we were not able to see any whales on our trip.

Wonderful adventure!

My 7 yr old son and I had a fantastic time on the 6:30 am fishing trip. We enjoyed a great breakfast sandwich from the galley and had some great catches through out the day. Crew was extremely friendly and helpful. Highly recommend anyone to take one of their fishing trips. We are going back as a family with my other son and wife in 2 weeks and are we are all looking forward to it!

I wouldn't go on this twilight trip again, unless I am with somebody. It was boring and we weren't catching hardly anything!! I love the 3/4 day boats and will be doing that on the 29th!!!

The staff was very friendly, great ride, didn't see any whales but went through a huge pod of dolphins several times which was a lot of fun! Great experience!

I really enjoyed and we ar egoing back and bringing more family with us.

While I understand and accept the fact that this is a nature trip and the company does not have control over what kind and how many different animals may be seen on the tour, we were mislead to believe there would be a good chance of seeing marine life, specifically, whales. However, we later learned that our trip was scheduled during an "off-season" for seeing whales. Just be honest. We still would've gone on the trip, but now I feel duped!

We didnt particularly like this tour for two main reasons. First, the cruise catered to the local Ritz, that had a group of 10 or so. The crew brought out loads of free food and drinks to them, while the rest were sitting around them. Secondly, we first saw a group of dolphins and spent about 45 min around them. After about 15 min we were ready to see whales but we continued to follow. Finally for the last hour we looked for whales and did not see any. It was VERY uneventful. When we got off, I asked if we get to come back and see whales or get a partial refund. The crew said no, because we did see some kind of marine life. For us, it was a waste of time and money.

Went whale watching but was unable to see any but captain and crew were trying very hard to locate some whales did have fun with dolphins and got a chance to see sea lions and seals. The surprising part was captain had given us a pass Plus a coupon for half off for a family of four was not expecting that at all. Would have still returned due to the experience of the adventure. Thanks a lot my children and wife had s blast.

This was a great oportunity to take my not so little ones out to see whales. Although we only saw one Grey whale and her calf near the end of the trip (it is the end of their migration season) we saw a TON of dolphins!! They were all around the boat and my daughter took around 600 pictures during the trip. Plus the weather was beautiful and the captain was very knowlegable on everything he spoke on. Plus you can have a drink at Wind and Sea or Turk's immediately following your excusion...Highly recommended!!

We saw a grey whale and its calf , bottlenose doplhins and hundreds of common dolphons! It was amazing!!

The day was beautiful, perfect for a boat ride. The boat had lots of room outside as well as inside. The captain said it was a perfect day to see whales, dolphins and other marine life. We quickly saw sealoins clinging to a bouy, about 25 minutes later we saw a school of dolphins and the captain knew just how to make them perform for us. Finally about 2 hours into the trip, we saw a mother whale and her calf briefly. The captain provided lots of great information and allowed the boat to idle so everyone had time to take any pictures they wanted. We came back a few minutes later than scheduled but that was because the crew searched tirelessly for the whales. It was a great boat ride with the benefit of seeing some authentic marine life. One thing that really impressed me, was that the captain and crew were very respectful of the marine animals, particularly the mother and child whales and didn't want to stress them out too much.

Well worth the money - the captain was informative and tried his best to capture as much marine life as he could.
