Great excitement
Tue, Sep 1  5:00 PM maccarone1 Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
My husband and I along with out two children(6 & 8) took the whale watching trip on Tuesday from 5-7. The boat trip and the scenery was amazing. The first half hour we did not see anything and then we spooted a pod of dolphins jumping and swiming right up to our boat. There must have been at least 20 of them. Then we spotted a blue whale. The captain steered the boat so we could get fairly close to him. He came up 4 times and we saw his tail out of the water twice. It was amazing. The crew member also gave alot of information on whales. Would definitely recommend the toup and on Tuesday they offer a discount.

Nervous at first

I usually go out on a friends private boat and was a bit nervous about a chartered fishing trip. The crew put me at ease pretty much before we left the harbor. We had a great time and caught plenty of fish to make the day a huge success. The burgers on board we just short of amazing. We had a great time and I can't wait to go out again. Next time the 3/4 day trip.

It was a great experience for the whole family. A beautiful ride, a talented crew, not overly crowded, and we saw lots of whales. I highly recommend.

We had some friends with their families out for a visit. We went whale watching with Catamaran Adventure Cruises and had a great time. I would highly recommend it.

Only small fish were caught, no keepers
Tue, Aug 18  5:30 PM Neitzelfam Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
I was a bit disappointed in this fishing trip. We have went fishing several times on the Oregon Coast and have caught big fish one right after the other but California fishing was not too good to us Idahoans. Our kids caught a few small fish but we didn't get to keep any of them and that was such a disappointment because we were ready to fry up some fish. Oh well, maybe next time. Good for 1/2 price...
Tue, Aug 18  5:30 PM ElizMcD Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
We went on a Tuesday night for half price, and I don't think it was worth more than that. The boat is basically a large fishing boat with not much room and few places to sit. We ended up climbing on top of one of the bait boxes and sitting there, which was okay for the short amount of time. We did see dolphins and a few sea lions, and they were amazing, but no whales and no coupons off our next visit (because we were already discounted?). As long as expectations are properly set, this is a fine activitiy.

Well worth the cost

Saw lots of dolphins and whales - good crew, comfortable ship - the rules state that you can't bring food, but lots of people did, so save some cash and carry it on

Thanks so much for the great outing. We really appreciated the crew's willingness to answer all our questions and educate the sightseers on protecting our local wildlife treasures. Good job!

Not Family Oriented As Advertised
Tue, Aug 18  6:30 AM fredgo Male 40-49 Local Family With Children
We arrived on the boat at 6:20 AM. The boat was supposed to leave at 6:30 AM. However, we didn't leave until almost 7:00 AM (keep in mind the clock evidently starts at 6:30 regardless of when you actually leave). My problem is that their web site specifically says that Tuesdays, their half days, are great for families. Their whole exprience is that it's easy for family and a great time for kids. Even states no experience necessary. First point, when we got on the boat, the boat was fully booked I suppose with stations around the boat's sides all around. My children are 7 and 5 years old, and there were no places where there was an opening station for 3 people (2 children and 1 adult). So as we set out to sea finally, we had to share one station together. Stations are only about 2 feet apart; it was nice of people adjacent to us to give us a little more room. This was my kids first experience with deep sea fishing. After the first stop, they asked everyone to switch spots with corresponding numbered stations. I asked a crewman to help me find a place or ask some people to move around so that we could fish. The crewman informed me that "that's the way it is". I told him I can't have my 7 and 5 year old at different places on the boat. I needed to be next to them, and it was crazy to think I would do that. I wasn't happy, and I told him that it should be his job to help. My two kids were the only two on the boat (some were in the teenager range). He said he didn't have to do anything, but it was more of "I don't care, it's your problem". We found a place on the bow (no station available). Then the captain comes up to me and confronts me in front of my kids for why I was giving his crewman a hard time. I told him what happened, and he said that it was my fault because I didn't arrive early enough to get a station (note, doesn't say that on their site except to be on time). I told him that isn't right. I paid to be on this boat and all I wanted was to be able to fish with my two kids. I then told him to back off; to go somewhere else as I didn't want this in front of my kids. He told me "Are you telling me what to do on 'my boat'"! At that point, I turned away telling him to just leave us alone. We can deal with it later. The other thing that he said was that he was a crew of 3 for a boat of 54 people. I suppose business is good enough to threaten passengers. I thought to myself, then obviously they aren't planning right or there's too many people on the boat. The best advice I could give the "Captain" is that perhaps he can do as other venues and ask everyone to fill in a station if there's one next to them. Thge second is realize when you're at sea, threatening customers is not good. Horrible experience, DEFINITELY not a family affair. We spent 2 of 4 spots catching Scorpion Fish while they told us we couldn't keep them because they're poisonous, but that's all anyone caught and none of the crew would come to the bow.

Fun and reasonable family activity
Sun, Aug 16  12:45 PM Boezinger Male 40-49 Local Family With Children
The free kids ticket w/ paid adult was what drew us in. This was a good value. The boat was packed - so obviously the promotion worked. It was crowded - so if you don't like crowds, you may want to try a different day/time. Boat caught about 30 fish that were keepers. Crew was helpful. Galley was reasonable. I would go again.
