Poor fishing

| The 1/2 day trip included a good number of locals or regulars who the deck hands seemed to enjoy chatting with and the deck hands spent a lot of time fishing themselves. I dont really care if they do fish, but when one of the passengers catches a fish they should be available to assist with taking the fish off the hook and putting in their bags. The fishing was poor and it would be recommended to rotate the fishing times at the back of the boat so that all would get equal time at the best fishing spot from the boat while backed into the kelp beds. The boat was clean and the galley provided good food and service. In summary the 1/2 day experience would be graded Average at best. | ||||||

| We would have liked to go farther out to find more fishing potential. Didn't catch much worth keeping. Maybe the boat needs a Fishfinder. | ||||||

| I decided to take my mom, and my visiting aunt and grandma from Russia on this evening whale watching boat ride. It was a fabulous deal, for $14.50 (which is a Tuesday half price special) we got to witness a beautiful ocean for 2 hrs. We didn't get to see the whales unfortunately, but we saw a family of dolphins playing around with the boat as well a group of sea-lions. The ship staff was extremely friendly and helpful in pointing out the sea life. The captain was able to tell us knowledgeably about everything that we saw during our cruise. All in all a beautiful experience! But I love the ocean, so I am biased... | ||||||

Great Fishing Trip

| This was my first fishing trip (but my son's 3rd) and we thought it was a good trip. The price was great, the food on the boat was great, and we met some nice people. I liked the way they rotated the fishers so that you got to fish from different parts of the boat. Also, liked that they went to different locations for more opportunities to catch something. (My son caught 5 fish!) If I would change anything it would be to start and end the trip earlier in the day. Although it says it's a half-day trip, it's from 10-3 so your day is pretty much tied up considering that you need to get there by 9 and may not get back to your destination until 4. And I would probably lessen the # of people that go on a single trip. Lines were getting tangled and there was little more than elbow room so not much room to really cast. Nevertheless, I would definitely recommend it. | ||||||

| I know you can't control the weather. We caught 5 fish for the entire boat. The trip was fun. Seeing the dolphins and sea lions. Won't go after a Kid Clinic again. Way to many kids on boat. Wish we would of caught something. Otherwise nice day. Good value. | ||||||

| The Dana Wharf crew treats all passengers like a guest at a 5-star resort. They are patient with the children and helpful to everyone on their boats, regardless of their level of experience. And the Galley food is always great! | ||||||

| May 30th was a pretty cold day. And we dont know that c that was first time for us to go fishing. I dont recommend this to family with younger kid like us. | ||||||

| The captain and crew were very friendly and helpful with our fishing lines whenever we caught a fish or the lines got tangled. The food on board was great as well. If you take a date she has no where to go for 5 hours...she's stuck on the boat. :) J/k...it was a fun trip for us. | ||||||

| I am an avid fisherman from the SF Bay Area. I own a fishing boat and am out on the bay at least once a week. I was attending a friends wedding in SoCal and tried to fit in a fishing trip. I've been on this trip two times. The first time we caught many fish, but the crew was pompous and distant. To avoid that experience, I tried to plan a trip out of San Diego but time constraints necessitated we leave from Dana Harbor again. This time the crew was great, but fishing was terrible (not their fault). The captain drove around the coast for over an hour "scouting" for bass. On a 1/2 day trip it’s just not worth the time (they are in the kelp beds!). I don't know about the longer trips (I hope they are better), but my recommendation is to avoid the half day trip. I've been disappointed twice. | ||||||

| Overall this tour is a great experience. The view is amazing. The crew was friendly. We didn't see any whales, I guess they are more likely from November to March. We did see some dolphins which was fun. If you can get a deal on the tickets by going mid week then it is really worth the money, even if you don't see a lot of ocean life. | ||||||

| My main goal in taking the cruise was to get out in the water. Unfortunately, we didn't see much in the way of marine animals (we saw 3 dolphins and a handful of sea lions), but that was fine with me since that was not our group's main goal. It was a lot of fun and I would definitely go again. The crew was great too. | ||||||

| We were nervous at first, Dana Point was one of the cheapest charters in the area. The experiance was definitly more than we expected. Thanks to a great crew and the help and attitude they gave. When we return I won't even bother looking for another deal, I'm headed for Dana Point! | ||||||

| The boat crew was fantastic, both in attitude and help. My son and I learn more about fishing in this one charter than over the last ten years. We caught 10 fish between us including, (2) Barracuda's!, Calico Bass, Sand Bass, Rock Fish and a Scorpion Fish! We were a little worried with the low price but I will no longer look any where else, when we come back we're headed for Dana Point! | ||||||
