Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching

The trip was very nice, we saw a couple of dolphins, many sea lions and had a wonderful view of the immediate coast. I usually get seasick but found the boat to be reasonably stable even when we left the harbor. I also liked that with the online ticket receipt, the company provided useful tips for people not used to boats (what to bring, what not to bring etc.). The only less than positive aspect of the experience had to do with the exchange of the online receipt for tickets. The company's offices at the harbor are not clearly marked and we had no idea we had to exchange the print out of our online receipt for tickets. Fortunately, the people at the boat accepted our print out and did not make us go back to find the office.

My husband and I were celebrating our 3rd year wedding anniversary when we decided to go whale watching. We seen so many dolphins and sea lions along with a grey whale, it was wonderful!

The crew was fantastic. The boat was clean and comfortable. The number of passengers was very manageable. The dolphins were playful and the whales were very accommodating! A wonderful adventure all around!

I've been fishing for decades now and the Dana Wharf crews rock! This trip I was aboard the Reel Fun and I had a blast. Fish were slow but the bite was sure. I was able to toss my worries overboard and reel in some fun times. I would recommend going out to anyone!

Even though the rain was threatening the day was beautiful! The Dana Wharf team was able to find a smooth location to fish and we hit a great spot. My group caught the majority of the fish landed on the trip which made for an even better trip.

just a laid back fun time

Not a fishing trip more like a boat ride.

Went out on a 10 O'Clock trip on the Clemente, and it was great. Fishing had been marginal due to water temps being low, but a warm week leading up to Thursday had helped bump it up a bit, and the fishing was better than expected. Captain did a great job of getting us on a rock South of the pier, and it produced for several hours, with Rockfish, Sheephead, Calico's and Sand Bass. Fish were biting on squid, shrimp and live Chovies. Once this spot cooled off we headed back North for a few minutes and fished a rock with a lot of kelp, flylining Anchovies for Calico bass, and we hit quite a few. It was really fun, and just about the whole boat had something in their bags by then. Saw a few pods of dolphin, a few seals interested in a quick snack, jellyfish and so on. Crew did a great job of helping with snagged lines, bagging fish and grilling up some awesome grilled cheese sandwiches and killer cheeseburgers. All in all a really nice day. I've been fishing out of Dana Wharf SF for 20+ years, and as always, they have experienced Captains, great crew, and they know where to go to get you hooked up. And they're friendly too........ One thing to remember is that you can't park in the lot adjacent to the DWSF office anymore, as it has a four hour limit on that lot now, so you have to go check in at the office, get a parking pass, and then move your vehicle to the long term lot which is further away. So don't lug all your gear to the office, only to find out like I did that you have to go move your car. :(

The cruise was a lot of fun. The staff were knowledgable, and friendly. The whales were beautiful!

We had a wonderful trip with Captain Todd and his crew. Over the course of our time on the boat we saw a Gray whale, Common Dolphin, Mola Mola, Sea Lions, and numerous sea birds. In addition to seeing the wildlife, we gained great insights into the animals and the habitat in which they live. Even learned a bit about human impacts. It was a great day!

We were hoping to see Whales. However, the dolphins were amazing! Thousands of common dolphins! Definitely an experience to remember. Don't forget the camera!

The best part about whale watching is being out on the water, especially when it was such a nice day. We only saw a few spouts of water and one whale's back, so from a whale watching perspective it was pretty lame. We didn't see any dolphins/porpoises either. We went by the buoy with the sea lions on it. It was 68 dollars for the three of us, which for what we saw was not worth it. Being out on the water was nice. Perhaps when the whales are staying below, there might be something interesting (geographically/historically) to relate to the people on the boat about the Dana Point area.

It was quite foggy but we still saw lots of dolphins and really enjoyed our day. We can not wait to do it again and hopefully see a whale but we are really looking forward to just having a better view. On a clear day this would have been a perfect day.
