We celebrated our daughter's 42nd birthday with a Whale Watching trip out of Dana Point. She had always wanted to go, but there are at least three of us who have motion sickness. We took Dramamine - less drowsy type - and made it through even though the water was really choppy with a lot of whitecaps. We were just about to turn around and head back into the harbor when the crew spotted a blue baleen whale. So, we followed it around for about 45 minutes as it came up to breathe, and went down again, about every six minutes. Wish we could have seen a lot more of the whales, but had a really fun time with the one. Very interesting and my daughter LOVED IT! Thanks for the great trip.

This is the 3rd or 4th time I have taken one of these cruises. ALWAYS a good time, knowledgeable captains and crew, clean boats and good times!! We saw dolphins, and the captain made sure we got to see blue whales--in fact kept us out a little long just to follow them. Can't wait to do it again!!

We went on an afternoon half day boat. The day started off rocky as there was inadequate parking for their customers. The boat was about 15 minutes late. The Captain didn’t spend too much time finding a good fishing spot, but the fish were almost all undersized. There was a young man about 12 on the boat that was obviously a relative of the Captain or a crew member. He was allowed to fish however and wherever he wanted and tangled several other anglers. And when he did get tangled, he would cut the other person’s line. The crew members said nothing to him, but then they were too busy fishing themselves. The Captain never required a rotation of rail positions so you were stuck in the same spot the whole trip. I may go back to Dana Wharf, but it will not be on the half day boat.

If you're a fisherman, this is a recommended trip especially during the summer when the fish are really biting. Fun for all. If you are the least suseptable to motion sickness, medication is in order.
Decent Fishing Trip 1/2 Day and Twilight Fishing Trips

All in all it was a good trip. The deck hands were good and the captain was enthusiastic. One of the things I would recommend would be to have the boat loaded with bait before patrons get on the boat. I was told the boat left at 6:30am and we didn't really leave until about 7am. Then we spent another 15 minutes plus to load the boat with bait. I just think people prefer the time fishing rather than watching the bait get loaded onto the boat. But all in all a good trip. The boat was really nice and the people were great. We were able to see some sea lions and a huge pod of dolphins. It was an incredible sight to see and I would definately recommend it to anyone. The boat however was very rocky so if you are a person that gets sea sick at all - you either may want to rethink or take precautions.

I will never go on a weekend 1/2 day PM trip out of Dana Wharf again. The trip seems to attract both small on large groups of obnoxius drunks, that can;t fish, curse continually and just ruin the day for everyone else. And the worst part is that neither the Captain or Crew do anything at all to even suggest that these folks at least curb their vulgariity.

The boat was simple and stable, good job of finding and following dolphin pods, had a difficult time understanding the comments of the captain over the speaker. Will go again in whale season.

Everything was great...the crew was good but, they spent more time traveling to a site than staying there to fish. It was rather frustrating to b/c with children you spend time getting them ready to fish, which on average they only stayed in each spot for 15-20 min. Its a 5 hour trip with 4 destenations and we got about 20 min in each spot. you do the math! My kids still loved it, but it did not give them any time to get ready, bait, or enjoy the little time they had to fish.

Very Crowded no enough help 1/2 Day and Twilight Fishing Trips

I have been taking these trips for several years and I do have to say that is was not one of my favorites. The boat was too crowded so crowded that people had no spots to fish and the deckhands had to make people move to allow others to fish. On many trips the captain has the people on the boat move around so everyone can fish in different parts of the boat this did not happen until two of us were overheard talking about it and then it was only one movement. Then one of the deckhands stood over the bait tank constantly chumming the water and hitting me in the head with fish! My son helped several people with their fish because he did not get down and help them with tangled lines and bringing in fish. I am careful what I bring on the boat because I know the rules, however there were people that brought coolers with beer in them and the people that were smoking was awful. It seemed like there were not enough deck hands to handle the numbers. I am not sure that I want to try this again anytime soon unless I go on a different day.

Although I've lived in Dana Point most of my life, I had never gone fishing before. Since we had some friends in from out of town, we thought it might be fun to go fishing. Positive: - Alcohol and food served in the galley - Clean boat - Boat goes to where the fish are biting - Fun times with so many people on the boat (lots going on) Negative: -Absolutely NO instruction for first timers -Lots of people on the boat (100) -Can't sit while fishing -1st 40 mins of trip is spent getting bait -Hard to maneuver around boat - especially with so many people on boat
