Tuesday Whale Watching
Tue, Feb 19, 08   10:00 AM stevenspence Male 50-59 Local Family With Children
I'd recomend the Tuesday half price special as the boat had maybe 40 people on it. Our Feb 19th scheduled 10:00 am departure actually left about 10:10, perhaps they were waiting to see if anyone else would show up. They ask you to be dockside a 1/2 hour before the scheduled departure, and free parking is more than adequate. The staff on the boat was friendly and talked about the marine life we happened to see. The trip lasted about 1:45 long and was an enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours. This is my third whale watching trip and I've yet to see a whale but did see many dolphin and sea lions. The company offers a guarrantee that if you don't see any dolphins or whales you'll get another trip voucher ... trust me, you'll always see dolphins, probably not whales but always dolphins! There is an indoor galley with seating on board in case your hungry or thirsty and I noted that they sell beer and "adult beverages" too. There are resrooms onboard. I would definitly bring a wind breaker or coat with a hood especially if you plan to travel during the winter months and want to watch from the bow (front) of the boat. Camera's are a must and having a pair of binoculars would be a bonus. If you liked the trip, have a couple of dollars handy since they put a "tip" jar next to where you exit the boat. If you've never done something like this and will not be too disapointed if you don't see an actual whale then I say go for it and enjoy the views, atmosphere and ride. I plan on going again sometime in the future since I live locally. Who knows, maybe the fouth time will be the charm to see whales.

Great Time

Everybody was very friendly. The trip was casual and fun. The staff felt like they were apart of the group rather than staff working for a paycheck. I am planning to bring my brother and his kids next time during the summer.

Not too good for a date. Spent most time viewing dolphins. Saw one whale and only the spout. For the same price i'd rather go to Sea World or the San Diego Zoo. Would recommend as a first time for kids as it is more of a family type of event. The two hours went quickly. Make sure you layer your clothing as it gets breezy and is much cooler than on shore. I was expecting more, but it was good for me to try it and find out for myself. I didn't like the fact that the other boats would follow where we went which would scare off the dolphins and whales because it seemed as if you were blocking the animals in. I'm not sure if the other boats are inexpensive than this one. Also, this boat is quite large and therefore holds more people which could make getting a seat or a good location difficult. If your more into the intimate nature, i would suggest the other whale watching tours that are smaller but let's you get a better view because there is more space to move around the boat during the trip because the animals go on either side of the boat so moving from one side to another is important.

The trip we took was great. From the start the staff was very friendly. The boat was very clean. We did not catch much fish, but the crew took us to different areas to help us find the best catch. The view and sunset were just beautiful. We had a lot of fun and help from the crew. Most of all we enjoyed the grilled burgers they were the best, way better than our sandwich. Next time we go I will not bother taking a lunch, maybe some snacks. I will definitely return and take another trip with Dana Wharf Fishing

didnt get to see any whales. saw some sea lions, and dolphins. thats about it. I had the impression that these guys knew where to find the whales, but they didnt. they were just looking around random places with binoculars. and if u see dolphins they dont give any kind of credit for not seeing the whale on this whale watching boat.

We really enjoyed the trip. The weather was perfect. We saw plenty of common dolphins and finally saw a whale an hour and a half into the trip. He put on a great show for us though. All-in-all, the trip was great!

A great whale-watching excursion

This short (2 hour) boat trip was a great time. We saw a huge school (pod?) of dolphins - around 1000! We also saw whales although they were being reclusive and not showing much of themselves out of the water. The birdlife was very extensive - hundreds of cormorants, pelicans, etc. We also passed by a buoy to see a group of sea lions. The captain was knowledgeable about sealife and gave a good amount of information about it. I would highly recommend this trip.
