Family Fishing Trip

What a great day we had fishing with my wife and two daughters (first time for the three of them to go salt water fishing). Great customer service checking in as well as on the boat. The crew was readily available to assist, providing insight and instruction. Will definitely plan to use them again next time we are in So Cal. Thanks!

Awesome Day

Great day on the water. I'm an avid freshwater fisherman in Colorado, so I was looking for something different. Plenty of action and the captain was genuinely interested in getting us on the fish. Rental equipment got the job done for a reasonable price. The crew was awesome and extremely helpful. Bathroom was clean and the galley had everything you need for a day of fishing. Prices were very reasonable.

next best thing to riding a dolphin

This is about as close to seeing a dolphin as it gets! They were close enough that I was splashed by their blowholes. Fun to watch them swim with us and do acrobatics. The only improvement is for this company to be more communicative on boarding times. I was there way early because they said to board 30 minutes prior, only to board 30 minutes after departure time.

Dolphins

Megapod of common dolphins, captains estimate 3000. Dolphins on every side of the catamaran. Also saw bottle nose dolphins. Unfortunately, no whales.

The staff was excellent! Our first two stops didn't go so well. The crew didn't give up though. Our 3rd stop had everyone on the boat catching fish. I had kids with me ranging from 12 - 16 and they all had a great time! In addition, the food was excellent!

We saw a lot of dophines but I've been on dophin watches before in TX and was looking forward to see some whales. We did see a few sea loins, so I guess that was a plus.

very fun but slighty frustrating

This was our (my husband and I) first fishing trip on the ocean. We went in the morning when my husband thought the fishing would be better. It wasn't as cold on the ocean as we thought it would be, which was nice. My husband and I both haven't been fishing for years and we didn't really know what to expect. It was a little frustrating on our part just not knowing what to do at all. (The reels we used were top of the line and brand new last time I fished...) For the first part of the trip, we were on the side of the boat because it was less crowded. (There were approx 25 other people with us). My line got incredibly tangled and we weren't catching anything, while other people around us seemed to be reeling them up nonstop. When my line was tangled, we had to wait about 10 mins for one of the guys to come over and fix it. He told us we should fish off the back of the boat but there never seemed to be an open spot. When we made our way over, the crew had (what appeared to be) regulars move out of the way so we could try to catch something. We caught and released many fish after that, but it was still crowded. Every time we got stuck in kelp, the crew helped us, and so did the people who had done this before. Their advice helped a lot. At first, we got conflicting advice on our fishing lines. We were told to fish off the bottom using the weights that came with the hooks, then we were told to take the weights off and aim the bait towards the kelp. (The second option worked better). We caught and kept 1 fish that was large enough, but we never got it cleaned and unfortunately left it behind because we were from out of town and didn't know what we'd do with it or how/where we'd cook it. If the company had an option for things like that we didn't know about it and it was never mentioned. Overall, it was a lot of fun and something I'm sure we'll do again. The crew was really knowledgeable and friendly, even though there weren't enough of them to go around for a brief time. The price we paid was worth it. It was great to watch the seals circle the boat and even steal fish right from our hooks. Watching the crew clean the fish was pretty cool too. The experience as a whole was great, there was too much fun stuff to let the minor let downs ruin it. Expect to come back covered in fish scales. :)

We were on a family vacation and wanted to have a unique outing. Our children are teenagers and felt they would enjoy this adventure. Boy did we score! Everyone loved it. We did not see whales but did see A LOT of dolphins and some sea lions. The boat crew was very friendly and informative. They went out of there way to make sure everyone was having a great time. Thank you!

The boat was very nice and not crowded. We encountered bottlenose dolphins but no whales. We could've spent more time watching the dolphins.

The first time we went on the Dana Pride to see dolphins/whales was almost a dud - we only saw three or four dolphins at the end. HOWEVER, they were kind enough to give us our tickets back so we could come to another show. We went the next evening on the smaller boat (not the Dana Pride). We went the opposite direction of the Dana Pride and ended up seeing a blue whale - the largest known animal alive on the planet. It was a BEAUTIFUL experience, and I was in awe of the opportunity to see such an incredible animal in its natural habitat. We saw a few dolphins leaping and several sea lions, including some baby sea pups with their mom :) A member of our group went a different time and had a completely different experience - hundreds and hundreds of dolphins leaping out of the water and close to the boat! From my experience, each time spent dolphin/whale watching is unique because the animals are in the wild, not trained to perform like puppets. To me, that is more precious than any "Sea World" show.

Although we didn't see any whales, the entire trip was wonderful. The staff was very friendly and nice from the moment we signed in to the time we left the boat. The boat is beautiful and very well maintained. I felt very safe. See you soon!!

This is a whale of a show!

I went on this whale watch last September. It was so fantastic (saw Blue Whales, Fin Whales and dolphins) that I took relatives on it this May. Once again, we saw lots of dolphins, who surfed with the boat, and the first sighting for the season of a Blue Whale and the 35-foot long baby. Quite exciting. I would recommend this to anyone, who enjoys wildlife, and doesn't get seasick. It can be quite choppy. Take layers of clothes, because it can be 15 degrees colder on the water. I think the 2-4 pm time is the best. The pilot finds the whales on the earlier whale trip. No meal is interrupted on the 2-4 pm slot. It can be colder and sun is lower on the 4-6 slot.
