It was a beautiful day regardless of the fish!
Thu, Apr 8, 10   10:00 AM spcgriffith Female 50-59 Local Family With Children
My husband and 12 year old had never been ocean fishing before and even though the fish "were'nt biting", we had a great time. The captain did his best moving the boat to where the fish were but I was the only one who had a bite. My daughter enjoyed the ocean view and learned how to bait, cast and reel a fishing line. The burgers from the galley were actually really good and we will be back later in the season and hopefully encounter some hungry fish! The boats crewman were very helpful and attentive. A great family excursion I would recommend.

No Whales

We did not see any whales which was disappointing but lots of dolphins and sea lions. It was rough waters but fun. Next time we will bring blankets - the four year old with us did enjoy it but said it was too long. I guess two hours can be long for a little guy. We all had fun and the crew was great. Departures and arrivals were timely.

Great Time

I took my 8-year old out for some Ocean fishing. We have taken this once before. Dana Point Sportfishing does a fantastic job with organization and ensuring everyone is taken care of. The captain does a great job making sure there is bite action with his knowledge of the area and what equiptment to use. I recommend this for anyone looking for Family fin!

Very Crowded no enough help
Tue, Jun 17, 08   10:00 AM Sorcha1 Female 50-59 Local Family With Children
I have been taking these trips for several years and I do have to say that is was not one of my favorites. The boat was too crowded so crowded that people had no spots to fish and the deckhands had to make people move to allow others to fish. On many trips the captain has the people on the boat move around so everyone can fish in different parts of the boat this did not happen until two of us were overheard talking about it and then it was only one movement. Then one of the deckhands stood over the bait tank constantly chumming the water and hitting me in the head with fish! My son helped several people with their fish because he did not get down and help them with tangled lines and bringing in fish. I am careful what I bring on the boat because I know the rules, however there were people that brought coolers with beer in them and the people that were smoking was awful. It seemed like there were not enough deck hands to handle the numbers. I am not sure that I want to try this again anytime soon unless I go on a different day.

Although my niece & I did not see any whales or dolphins (which is unusual), we did see sea lions, have a great boat ride, & witness stunning views of our local coastline. And in the end, because our excursion did not see whales or dolphins, we did receive free whale-watching tickets that don't expire & can be used anytime.

The fish were not biting but that happens sometimes- the crew, however, was determined to get us to a place that they were biting and they were helpful when it came to bagging fish and tying on hooks and sinkers- the only complaint is that I wish the boats were nonsmoking my wife has asthma and the smoke made light headed and sick-

Fun, beautiful trip

We had a great time. We saw many dolphins, including some babies, and we did breifly spot one fin whale. The captain and the naturalist on the boat were very helpful and friendly and did everything to help us see a whale, even though we were a few minutes late back to the dock. I would definitely go again!

Fun but not what we expected

It was fun but we ended up being just outside the shore of our hotel. We were under the assumption, from speaking with others who had done this particular tour, that we would be out further in the ocean.

We had a lovely time. Great weather, great boat. Didn't see whales, unfortunately, but saw hundreds, if not thousands, of dolphins (both bottlenose and common) up close. It was AMAZING and well worth the trip, even without the whales.

CATAMARAN WHALE-SIGHTING TRIP
Sun, Aug 10, 08   1:00 PM SONIAMALMAN Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
WE THOROUGHLY ENJOYED OUR TRIP WITH YOU. WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. THE MARINE BIOLOGIST (A FEMALE) WAS FANTASTIC AND ENTHUSIASTIC AND THE WHOLE STAFF WAS SUPER-FRIENDLY. WE SAW TWO BLUE WHALES IN THE LAST HALF-HOUR OF OUR TRIP, PLUS SOME RIZO'S DOLPHINS AND SOME SEA LIONS, I BELIEVE IT WAS. THE WHALES WERE JAW-DROPPING AND AWE-INSPIRING. WE COULDN'T BELIEVE OUR EYES AND OUR LUCK. IT MADE OUR TRIP MAGICAL AND FOREVER UNFORGETTABLE. OUR SIX-YEAR-OLD SON SAID IT WAS THE BEST DAY OF HIS LIFE! NEED I SAY MORE?

Fun Trip, take it

We only saw two whales, but we did see over a thousand dolphins in the water all at once. Yes, a gigantic pod of dolphins. I have seen many dolphins in my time, but never so manay in one spot. They were swimming and diving all around the boat for 20 minutes. It is a fun ride even if there are no whales. Constructive criticisim, the guide talked continually. He needs to give it a rest occasionally.

Sea lions, dolphins & a whale
Fri, Mar 18, 11   4:00 PM soksniffer Male 30-39 Local Couple on a Date
Whale watching is of course dependent on whales being in the area to begin with, so in that regard we were lucky. That said, Captain Tom and Larry(?) did an amazing job of getting us where the action was, tracking a large pack of sea lions, a huge pod of dolphins and keeping us just astern of a gray whale and predicting with remarkable accuracy when and where it would surface. I got sea sick and Larry's good advice got me through the worst of it and had me feeling human before we got back to shore. Recommended. Dress warmly.
