A Great Day Fishing

Never been out of Dana Point before, but will highly recommend using them again. Checked in with out any problems and waited in line to board. Once aboard the crew was extreamly helpful and polite. Once we arrived at the spot the captain decided we should fish from. We droped anchor and imediately brgan to catch fish. Even when I brought the fish aboard the crew was quick to remove the hook and get me back in the water. He also placed my fish in the gunny shack provided by the boat. The gunny sack was only 1 dollar, but the best dollar I'll ever spend, as amatter of fact the price of the 1/2 day boat was the best fishing for the price you will ever receive. Everybody on the trip was pleasent and fun to be around Thank's Fred E Stepp Surfside Ca

Trip ruined by group of loud, Volgar Drunks

I will never go on a weekend 1/2 day PM trip out of Dana Wharf again. The trip seems to attract both small on large groups of obnoxius drunks, that can;t fish, curse continually and just ruin the day for everyone else. And the worst part is that neither the Captain or Crew do anything at all to even suggest that these folks at least curb their vulgariity.

I think it might have been too rough to go out the day I went out. I threw up twice as did a couple of other people, this is AFTER taking dramamine, so it was really rough - several people fell down because the water was so choppy. I saw several dolphin, but not what I was expecting exactly. No whales in sight. The staff was extremely nice and friendly though and I enjoyed talking with them.

The boat was old, hardly any passangers. Only found out there that the whale watching season was over. Website of whale watching company is misleading. Captain did not say anything that he will making an effort to spot whales, in contrast with another whalewatching experience from Monterey Bay last year. There the captain and staff was zigzagging the area for us, and made an honest effort that we get our money's worth. No whales there either, but at least we knew that everything was done what humanly possible. It would have been much better to buy the ticket on site, that way I could have used the local coupons for discounts. Since I preapid the tour, that option was lost. Overall the experience was very negative. Cannot recommend it to anybody. Received $10.00 discount for future trips, which I will not use, since I am a tourist from Canada, and will not come back to this area anytime soon.

Crew makes a poor fishing day OK
Wed, Apr 30, 08   10:00 AM zapata007 Male 40-49 Local Individual
The day was drizzling and overcast. The ocean seemed a little choppy. The captain and the crew picked to good spots for us to cast our lines. Most of the anglers were getting several bites. Most of the fish were too small to keep. However, most of the bites were calico and sand bass. The crew was very helpful. A handful of us were not very good at fishing but the crew was good at helping anglers who blew out the reels or tangled their lines. All in all it was a good day.

Even though we didn't see any whales or dolphins on the morning that I went, it was a beautiful and relaxing day out on the water. I met a lot of nice people. At the end of the cruise, we all got a ticket to come back again, since we didn't see any whales. I would go again whether I saw any or not. Having owned a boat before when I lived out here, I do know that you can see dolphins and whales and sea lions during certain times of the year. We almost always saw dolphins on our way to Catalina. They used to play in the wake our our boat. They are such a joy to see when they are around, but it's not something you can predict, only hope for. Either way, whether you see them or not, you will enjoy being out on the water for a relaxing day trip. I would go out every day if I had the time. I will be back again soon! Just be sure to bring your camera's or video cam's.

I called ahead and asked about poles/tackle and they gave me the wrong advise so I brought the wrong stuff for the trip, so that kind of sucked. I wish I would of been given more accurate information so I could of enjoyed the trip better. Needless to say, I didn't catch anything!

Friendly Crew, Bad Fishing
Sat, Mar 29, 08   6:30 AM kmhall1 Male 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Individual
I booked the 1/2 Day fishing trip and was anxious for an exciting 5 hour expedition full of action. Instead I ended up on a boat with 30 other disappointed people. Fishing was terrible! The combined fish count for the entire boat was less than 10 fish on the day, and none were more than 14 inches long. There was no seating available on the boat so everyone, including small children and seniors, were forced to stand for 5 hours and fight the rocking of the boat. Several people gave in and sat on the wet slimy deck in order to rest their legs. The 3 man crew was friendly and courteous, and our boat was witness to a whale that surfaced nearby and numerous seals, but those are the only positives I can muster for this adventure. I would NOT recommend this activity during this time of year. I understand fishing conditions can vary which may have contributed to the lack of success, but with todays sonar technology and other fish finding devices, I feel the crew could have put us in much more action.

The boat was great - big, clean, bathrooms were handy and the food/drink area was easy to get to. There was plenty of shaded area inside with a full view. No matter where you were on the boat, you had a full view. The crew was incredibly nice and helpful. We didn't see any whales, but did run into a pod of about a thousand dolphins, and we spent, I think, about half an hour running with them. They were everywhere - as far as you could see, and right next to the boat so you could see them clearly. Once in a while one would jump way out of the water and do a big flip, and you'd hear a big oooooh! from the people on the side of the boat that saw it. That was an amazing experience, so incredible you have to see it to believe it! The only problem I had (and I expect this to be remedied soon) was that even though online it said there was a bar, they didn't have their liquor license yet, and the food was limited to chips and candy. But, like I said, it was a new boat and I think they'll probably take care of that. There were only 15 sightseers on the boat, and they were all really nice, so even though I was alone, I didn't feel out of place. I have family coming soon and will definitely put this outing on our schedule.

We didn't see any whales or anything for that matter but I received a "rain check" ticket for a free ride in the future which I thought was great.

We didn't see any whales on our trip. My kids were disappointed at first, but it was still a very enjoyable 2-hour boat ride. We had a great burger and enjoyed the sun and breeze. The guarantee is very generous and we plan to return to take advantage of that whenever those whales decide to head to Dana Point!
