We had visited Southern California before and never spotted any whales. We decided to take the Dana Wharf Whale Watching tour. The Captain and crew were very informed about whales and dolphins and not only gave tips on spotting whales and dolphins but also shared factual information in an interesting way. On the trip we saw several Grey Whales, Sea Lions, and a large group of Common Dolphins. The Captain cruised slowly and turned the boat frequently allowing all passengers to get a good view and take photographs. We took the 2 p.m. cruise after the morning fog lifted. That worked well for visibility. After the cruise, I was able to spot more whales from the shore using the tips I had learned on the cruise. We would definitely go again.

It was great being out on the ocean, and we "parked" in a pod of dolphins and had a great time watching them frolic. I swear they planned their jumps to void the cameras! And they seemed genuinely happy to see us and genuinely reluctant for us to leave when we did. Oh, and we saw a sea lion. (I called it a seal and one of the crew corrected me with a good natured chuckle.) The crew was friendly and professional and quite knowledgeable about where we were going and what we were seeing. The trip was so enjoyable, I didn't even regret the prescription glasses I managed to drop overboard on the way out of the harbor. Really!

Our family consisted of young adults and seniors. We thoroughly enjoyed the outing and recommend it highly to anyone in the area. In addition to the whale watching we enjoyed the information given to us while we searched for whales and dolphins around us.

We happened to pick a beautiful SoCal Saturday afternoon. Even though the day's previous groups had apparently not seen any whales, we figured we'd enjoy the cruise. To our joy, we had a whale spotted within 10 minutes (a rather camera-shy whale, but it apparently had other things on its agenda). The guide did a great job of narrating what we might expect, as well as giving interesting information on the actual spotting. The captain and guide also decided about midway that we should change our route to try for more sightings, and we were pleased to cruise into a group of dolphins, who added to the "success" of the cruise by swimming along with our boat for awhile. All in all, I would very much recommend this activity, though I would have to say that, on a day such as that, the cruise would have been pleasurable even without having seen any whales.

Nice trip on a neat ship. We have seen lots of dolphins, but no whales (but you can't force nature I guess), 50% coupons were provided because of the absence of the whales. (can't use the coupons while we are on a short holiday but the gesture is very nice) If you want to here a downside: we were in a line for almost an hour. We were 35 mins ahead of schedule as advised, and embarkment was 15 mins behind schedule.

Loved whale watching!

We thoroughly enjoyed our whale watching excursion! The crew was great and started by making sure we knew the wind and waves would be a bit rough to make sure we were prepared, though it didn't really bother us. Honestly, it was a pleasure just to be out on the boat which was a good sized ship and was not overly crowded the day we went. As we headed out, they were sure to spend a few minutes pointing out the sea lions on the nearest buoy allowing everyone plenty of time for a good view or picture. The crew mentioned they were coordinating with other ships in the area sharing information on sightings to increase our chance of success despite the less than ideal weather. We were well rewarded! Though we only saw one whale, we were able to get extremely close and lingered for several of the whales' surfacing cycles. We appreciated how informative the crew was and the enclosed galley that offered drinks and snacks for sale. The trip was both relaxing and thrilling and we will definitely go again on our next visit in the area.

Staff was helpful and commentary was authoritative and informative. Background material responded to questions and encouraged future inquiry. Suggest supporting video material for long periods of little or no contact with whales i.e. what to look for. Suggest as well that the ordering-printing of tickets be simplified. Something like that used for obtaining boarding passes on flights should do the trick. Not all of us have printers readily available and have to resort to hotel facilities.

All boat personnel were extremely friendly and helpful. Within 45 minutes we spotted three Gray whales and followed them for about another 45. One of the boat staff gave excellent commentary including whale facts. The boat was clean and easy to navigate around.

If we would have caught fish it would have been a perfect day! The skipper did his very best to get us "hooked up" and we got our "pool money" back. The fish just were not cooperating.

I found this trip online when I was searching for activities to do in orange county, CA. To my surprise it was shown on the orange county's website but was not even advertised on the flyers at the hotel. I was immediately interested to do the whale watching trip and was happy that the trip provider, Danawharf, give a 40% discount! On the trip day, I was glad that the cruise boat was a big (and very clean ) catamaran which provides an outdoor seating and indoor seating area (with a bar!) as well as plenty of walkabouts around the boat as you need to walk around in case the whale shows up around the boat. In addition to that, the trip guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the whale that we were about to watch. To my surprise, the whale showed up several times, and it was an amazing view, considering that this is an open sea and that we are dealing with a wild animal. As a bonus after trailing the whale for an hour the boat took us to dolphin enclaves around the area, which is another amazing experience. All things said, I really like to recommend to do this this activity with danawharf whenever you're in OC between Nov-April as that is the best time to catch a glimpse of migrating whales. Five out of Five.

The trip was a lot of fun! We saw 5 grey whales and also sea lions. The captain kept manuevering the boat so we could get great views of the whales, always telling us ahead of time where to look for the whales to surface. The crew was friendly and informative and made the experience very enjoyable. Thanks for a great trip!
