Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching

Was a glorious sunny day, all the crew were very helpful and the boat was able to supply plenty of food and drink for us weary fishermen.Good day was had by all

This was my 3rd excursion with these guys and we saw a whale!! Even if we hadn't, it would have been a great day just to be out on the water. The captain stayed with the whale for about an hour of the excursion so there was plenty of opportunity for all to take photos or videos. We've had the same captain every time and he's great! The crew is nice and the boat is clean. We won't go out with any other excursion company. These guys are the best.

Whales must have been at lunch as we saw just small parts of 5 far off and no dolphins. Boat before us got treated to a pod of orcas!

Crew was great, had a good time, but the boat has no seats to rest on and its a long trip... Also, there is no indoor galley so you can't get out of the sun on a hot day.

This excursion was WONDERFUL! The captain of the boat worked hard to find us Whales and was very knowledgeable and educational. He maintained a respectable, yet close, distance to the animals. The trip was 2 hours and we were all really sorry to see it end. This is an inexpensive and wonderful way to spend an afternoon and is definitely something I will do again.

The whole trip was great. Weather was great, fishing was even better. Lots of keepers and just as many fun to reel in throw-backs. Captain and deck hand were really terrific as always.

Although we didn't see any whales I was not disappointed. I saw dolphins playing and jumping in the water. I had never seen them other than Sea World before. They were very close to the boat and I could see the different types of dolphins. It was very exciting. I also saw many sea lions floating in the ocean with their flippers pointed towards the sun. The two hours was the perfect amount of time. It was a wonderful experience I plan on enjoying again.

My two friends from Texas and I had the privilege and honor to be on the Dana Wharf whale watching trip that got to experience the pod of Orcas off the coast of Dana Point on January 3, 2012. It is definitely an event that goes in all of our Top Ten Most Exciting Events of our lives. The Captain and staff were outstanding. I wish future watchers the luck that we had to be part of a rare event such as this.

The tour is not very long and, therefore, the chances of seeing a whale really are a function of whether whales are in the direct neighborhood or not. They should provide more info up front (I'm sure they knew we would not see anything that day since they do the same ride 3 times a day). It is nice to see dolphins and sealions though but ...

I go out with a group of 25 to 40 people every few months . on both the Catamaran and regular boat. Every trip is a little different like the moods of the sea. We almost always have lots of dolphins come to play, sometimes small pods and sometimes the ocean bubbles with 1000's of dolphins leaping and playing. The common dolphins always want to hang out with the boat. on the Solstice we saw two whales blow like Old Faithful and surface like islands rising out of the sea. Then we got "tailed". A bunch of porpoises showed up like they came for a play date. The captains are all terrific, keeping you well informed and going the extra mile to make sure you have the best experience possible. It's a great way to spend a few hours on the sea with our ocean dwelling friends and seeing our beautiful coastline.

We really enjoyed this activity. While we didn't see any whales, we were thrilled to see a huge pod of dolphins- some of which swam in the wake of the boat. We also saw some sea lions. The crew was very knowledgeable about marine animals and provided very helpful information. It was a beautiful trip and just the right length. Since we didn't see any whales they also provided a 50% off coupon for our next trip if we were able to return. While we were perfectly happy with our trip, this coupon was a nice bonus!

was hoping to see a blue whale. fin whales only showed backs no flukes. did have a great experiance with a large pod of dolphins and got great pics.

It was an awesome day out on the water, lots of dolphins at first then we spotted several fin whales. Then the big blue whale showed up and was playing all around the boat along with a seal lion. Great fun was had by all!

Great experience-saw more whales than could count: blue, fin and humpback whales and dolphins too. Crew was courteous, friendly and helpful.
