Lived here for 20 years and always thought this would be a tourist trap. Saw an incredible show. 9 blue whales ... The biggest on earth. Then. School of hundreds of dolphins we played with. Truly amazing. The boat captain was great and extremely knowledgeable. It was amazing.

We had a group of friends from Palms Springs visiting our Dana Point home (We split time between DP and PS). Everyone anticipated the whale watching experience and they were not disappointed. There were 7 whale sightings. Of course, the weather was perfect, which helped make the day perfect. This was our 2nd exceptional whale watching experience. The captain and crew were friendly and extremely knowledgeable about whales and sea life in general.. Overall the experience was outstanding and we will be recommending the trip to friends. Thank you.

The trip left on time and the boat was clean and wellstocked with items at the snack bar. The captain was knowledgeable and polite, as was the lady in the snack bar. We say one whale dive and surface several times. The weather was great and the trip was nice. We were given a 40% off coupon when we deboarded, which I am going to use in 2 weeks. We did not see any dolphins, which was disappointing.

There must not be a fish finder on the boat...

The staff was nice, and helpful. I have to believe that there was no fish finding equipment installed on the boat, and the captain sure didn't know where to look. However, he captain did mention, repeatedly, how good the fishing was the day before. That was fun to hear. The boat stayed roughly 800 yards from shore, must be the gas prices? I really expected to go much deeper. The food and beverages where very resonable, I had a great meal and one hell of a bloody mary. That's one for the galley. At this point, I cannot recommend a fishing trip, but if you are going for the view, food and drink, it's a fun adventure along the coast.

Beautiful day in July,1 whale and tons of dolpins!

We only got to see 1 whale and we weren't able to get too close to it because every time it popped up, our boat was too far away. So that was a little dissapointing, but at least we got to see one from far away. The coolest thing were the dolphins!! The first hour we didn't see any and then suddenly there were dozens of them surrounding our boat and so close you could almost reach and touch them! It was awesome! They were very playful and surrounded our boat for a good 20 min or so. Made the whole trip worthwhile!! Found coupons on the internet for $25/ea. Great deal!! If boat leaves at 10:00am, get there at 8:00 and eat at Proud Mary's overlooking the harbor. Nice place.

This was the second time for me.....we were lucky enought to see a "mega pod" of dolphins, a Minke whale and a sunfish....The boat captain was really into it and very knowledgeable. Seeing that many dolphins is something I will never ever forget....Best day ever

Crew makes it happen.

The only complaint I have about my trip on 6/24/2013 is that they did not rotate fishermen back to the stern. Since most of the fish were caught back at the stern, rotating would have been good. nevertheless, the two largest bass landed were caught on the port side. Fish volume however, was at the stern. This crew was light years ahead of the crew we had last year at Davey's Locker in Newport Beach. Go with Dana Wharf if you have a choice. It does not matter how many fish you catch if the crew is great. And the crew is great at Dana Wharf.

The experience we had on our fishing day in Dana Point was awesome!!! The boat was super clean and accomidating! The crew was so great and helpful! Super nice guys! We had the best time fishing for my hubby's birthday! He loved it....guess it didn't hurt that he caught the biggest fish on the boat and won the jackpot!! Everyone from the check-in counter at Dana Wharf to the Captain on the Reel Fun was amazingly friendly and we would love a repeat of this day soon!! Cheers!!!

I definitely wouldn't go again

For starters, I would NOT recommend signing up for that jackpot thing they do for the biggest fish. In my opinion, it's basically a scam. The entire crew fishes with decent poles and use lures while the paying customers are stuck with cheap poles (and cheaper line) and are using minnows or squid. It's really not a fair fight because they cast out 50 foot and draw back while we just basically had to drop a minnow off the side -- and have no idea what depth the fish are even at. Crew is cool and nice, so I will give them that. They do have a little kitchen on board, with reasonable prices, so that's cool. No one on our trip ate anything so I don't know what kind of quality to expect. My expectations were just way too high. I was hoping to go out and do some real fishing at night, maybe even landing a shark or something, but we were right off a reef where there's mostly just one footer bass or random fish. After four hours of fishing, no one caught anything that was even legal to keep except the crew (on their lures). It was cheap, so that's a plus, but I guess you get what you pay for. The next time we go fishing on the ocean, we'll just shell out more money and charter a real boat. It's hard to fish on a big boat with 30-40 people who are all just dropping minnows or squid right off the edge. Plus there's not even seats or a bench or anything, so if you want to fish the whole time, be prepared for a long rocky ride on your feet. By the end of it, your just ready to get out of there. Despite the low cost, in my opinion, it's not worth it. There were some groups with kids, and halfway through the four hour trip, those little guys looked miserable. Oh, and take some sea sickness pills beforehand if you're not used to boating in the ocean. It gets real rocky out there so there were several folks who got sea sick.
