Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching

The boat ride was excellent. Not too choppy. I have been on smaller boats and felt nautilus. They did everything in their power to find whales, and provided us with info on the species. We saw two whales and some other sea life. Very fun, especially, for the reasonable price. Our group consisted of graduate students from across the country that are currently going to school in California. We found Dana Point to be a beautiful area worth visiting as well.

The weather was perfect, the ocean was clear, the captain knowledgeable the only thing missing was a whale! Still, we did see some fantastic dolphins. Fun and relaxing.

From beginning to end, the customer service was excellent. I was running a few minutes late and they were considerate enough to wait for me just a couple of minutes as I made my way through the parking lot, not only that, but as I literally got onto the boat, I had a customer service representative call me to see if I had been able to make it after all! Now that's service! Our guide was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and you can tell this is not just a job for him, but his calling in life! I and my friend had a great time, learned a lot, and got to see a fantastic whale and playful dolphins...can't wait to go back again next time!

Great crew, veryyyyy helpful! They start off the trip giving a demo on how to use the rental gear. then they come around and put weights on everyones lines... even if you didnt rent the gear from them. They will untangle anyones lines, help you bring fish in, bait your hooks if you have trouble, etc. very friendly crew and the captain really tries to have everyone catch something, he even stayed out an extra half hour or so on our trip because it was a bad day. Galley had good food at a very reasonable price. Anything you catch they will also fillet and clean for you at the end of the day for $1 if you choose. The fishing was poor that day however. we went in late january and there was about 20-30 fish caught on the whole boat but it was often the same 4-5 people. our group consisted of 5 people and we caught one fish between all of us. But I would definitely recommend the trip, just check the daily fish counts on their website for a good day to go.

The Crew were very accomodating and we did see a grey whale and a huge pod of local dolphins. Staff went out of their way for our satisfaction

My friends and I were VERY disappointed. We fished just off the beach from our condo and I have done better fishing in the small ponds where I live. We really should have been informed of just how bad the fishing was before we purchased tickets. Also noted that they kept very small fish in order to make days count look good. No fish over 18 inches were caught for anyone on our boat. NOT WORTH THE MONEY.

I've been on the boat many times. People who run it are knowledgeable, good communicators, know where to go to play with our whale and dolsphine friends. They love their work and I never tire of the joy of being out on the water, experiencing the peace and connection with all the elements and the sentient Beings of the sea. Last trip was a rare day when we didn't see any, and it was a great day anyway......and we get a rain check. How good is that!. MzB.

We were a group pf 40-50 people with a common interest, but we didn't all know each other. When asked later that night if we minded not seeing any whales or dolphins, everyone answered with a resounding NO! We had so much fun with each other, we didn't really miss them. AND, they refunded our tickets to come back another day! I believe they said they hadn't had a no-show run in 27 weeks. (?) This is a great activity for a meet-up or any kind of group to do something together. The Capt was informative and the crew wonderfully nice.

The 2 hour tour seems to go by pretty quick from how really enjoyable the tour is. I got to see about 200 common dolphins which was amazing and magical! They swim sooo close to the boat so you can really see them up close. I saw some sea lions which was great aswell. I love the ocean, the fresh wind and animals so if you do as well, then this whale watching tour is for you. I absolutely loved it and plan on going on the tour again soon.

The crew was informative, the boat was comfortable (had exterior and interior/cafe seating). Too bad we didn't get to encounter any grey whales (went in early January during the season), but we did get to see a pod of bottle-nosed dolphins that stuck around with us for awhile and played with our boat! It was worth the trip.

Great time had by all, followed two greys all the way down the shoreline. Will be back again.

Although we didn't spot any whales, the crew made sure that we spent plenty of time with the dolphins. A great deal on half price Tuesday. Captain pushed/advertised his DVD a bit too much though. Definately worth the 2 hours time and money spent for this trip :)

Too bad they can't guarantee catching something.
