Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching

It was a nice day, but no fish were biting. The staff aboard the boat were friendly and helpful. It was an all-around pleasant experience and plan to go again in the near future.

Me and my son and his friend had a great evening fishing. While everyone else seemed to snub their noses as the mackeral, we soon realized that with the red tide that set in, nobody was going to catch much if anyting. My son did catch a sheephead (good size). And, people were getting several bites at the bottom, nobody was pulling up much. However, I told my son and his friend to go for the mackeral about 20 feet below the boat. We pulled up fish after fish. Mackerel put up a great fight. Although I was away when they cooked and ate them, they said they were not bad. I think the reason they did not taste any better was because we left too many bones in our filets. We caught about 30 of them so we did not want to pay the $1/fish to have the crew filet them. This would have been nearly the price of another ticket, so we did it ourselves. My hands smelled like fish the entire next day, but good thing I did not have to work. We are not experienced fileters (sp?) so next time if I will invest in a better knife or If I have to work the next day will seriously think about paying the $1/fish to have them fileted. Or, I will simply only keep the big mackerel - there is no size limit. The crew was great as described in all of the other reviews. They were truly there to help. They were competent, hard working, and friendly.

Crew was extremely knowledgible, helpful and exciting. Saw only one whale, but lots of dolphins and some fish. Crew offered a chance to go out again later that day on another tour that wasn't completely booked so that we might see more.

There were 4 of us. Myself (54), my dad (80) and my 2 sons (19) (21). The customer service at Zerve were easy to deal with and made the reservation process seamless. We had a great day of fishing off Dana Point Harbor. The crew on the boat were very helpful in handling the fish caught and answering all questions we had. I would highly recommend Zerve and DanaWarf Harbor for a fun day on the ocean.

We went out with Larry and Mike and enjoyed this trip tremendously. Since we did not see a whale on the first trip we were given an opportunity to go on the following trip at no charge. Larry and Mike work hard trying to find whales and interact with guests. They make you feel like you are a long time friend. On both trips other passengers got sick and they were constantly checking on them and were concerned about them. Great job and we did see a whale on our second trip.

Great whale watching trip! Captain was very knowledgeable and we followed and watched the whale for more than an hour. Seas were calm, weather beautiful, and the boat very comfortable.

We had a great time. We got to see 3 blue whales which were incredible. Also saw a lot of dolphins. We ate lunch on the boat and were impressed with the quality and price. We went on half-price Tuesday and would highly recommend it if you can get away on a Tuesday afternoon. The staff was also very helpful. This is a ton of fun and I highly recommend this for a fun activity for all ages.

The crew were very competent and helpful and the boat was large and comfortable. Although we didn't see any whales we did get to see a lot of dolphin pods which was neat. Overall I would say it was a good experience. If we had the good fortune of viewing whales I would probably do it again. The dolphins were fun but, if I knew thats all we were going to see, probably wouldn't do it over again. Not that thats any fault of the crew. I know there is always an element of chance with this type of excursion. Based on my experience I may try it again but, if so, would try to schedule the reservation when a whale sighting was more likely (i.e. the right season).

We had a WONDERFUL time on our cruise. We did not see any whales, but that seems to be common for that time of the year. But our captain did all he could to find something, even going back out a ways to find some dolphins and they were the highlight!! They actually swam with us, right under the boat. I got some fantastic pictures and it was the time of a lifetime. We were comfortable on the boat and all five of us had a wonderful time!! My oldest got a little seasick and they came and checked on him at least three times! Also, they have a great lunch deal - ask for the hot dog. We had a fantastic trip and would do it again in a heartbeat. Plus, you can't beat the price!! LOVED IT!!!

was not pleased with the leaders decision to change fishing locations so late in the activity. alot of time was wasted that could have been used fishing.

Right when we all started to catch fish we had to go. O well had a blast but took home nothing in a group of 5. Thanks for the good time.
