Reel Fun Was Not Fun

Went out on the Clemente in past years and actually caught a few fish each time. Ther Clemente captain always kept a close eye on the action and even interacted with the passengers. Our captain Dan on the Reel Fun stayed out of sight and not only didn't find any fish, (40 rods x 4 hours = only 5 keepers) I was surprised he could even find the Pacific Ocean. Besides the wasted time the trip cost my wife and I over $120.00 with the non residence 1 day license and all we came home with was a sun burn. To have the boat sit in 1 (very dead) spot for over an hour with no one catching anything or even getting a nibble before moving to try another spot was absolutely rediculous. I felt sorry for his crew (no fish, no tips). One wasted day in my vacation to southern California.

THe weather was beautiful and the boat was comfortable. We were slightly dissapointed we did not see any whales and only 1 pod of dolphins. I kept bragging about seeing whales in March when we came and our honeymooners were looking forward to seeing some. I realize you can't predict where they are, but more sea life would have made the memories sweeter.

We had a wonderful trip. We went on a 2 hr whale watching tour. Unfortunately we didn't see any whales, but did see a couple types of dolphins and some sea lions. Regardless, the day was lovely and the boat operators were professional, informative and very nice.

Hadn't been out on the ocean on a boat in along time. Thought it would be fun. Saw in The OC Register paper about the the sightings of Blue Whales, and pictures. Thought I would take my husband for his birthday out to see if we could see any. None on our trip however, it was enjoyable and saw hundreds of little black and white dolphins, a sunfish, and seal lions. Crew was great. We'll probably go again.

Good fishing for kids

Well, this is the second time within a month my son and his friend went. My son invited another friend as well. Although we did not catch as many mackeral as we did before, the red tide was gone and we caught a croker, a big sheephead, and a couple of calico bass. We caught about 5 mackeral and two smelt we thought were big enough to keep. This time, I think the crew was heavier. They had one new guy who I thought was more into work than ensuring the beginner to more advanced fisherman had a good experience. For example, he was a bit rude when he knew we were going to keep our mackeral and smelt. He could have been nicer. The other two young crew members though were equally as hard working and as friendly and helpful as they were the time before. The captain was great as well as he was last time. He seemed interested in the customers having a good time by catching fish with as much help from their crew as possible. I will try to get my own equipment next time as renting for four people at $12 each gets expensive. I will definitely keep this adventure on my list of things to do and I will recommend our scout troop go on this soon.

Our trip was July 2nd 5-7 PM. We saw 3 blue whales (one as close as 100 feet away) and large school of dolphins (100-200). The crew was top notch and overall a great experience.

We enjoyed the catamaran trip. Although we did not see any whales, we saw a HUGE school of dolpins. The captain lingered in the area while the school of dolpins jumped, played and surrounded the boat. Very exciting and a great afternoon.

We had sooo much fun!!! Can't wait to do it again. This is my third trip out and my sisters first. She was equally amazed and keeps asking when we can do it again. Our captain was sooo informative and made sure everyone was enjoying themselves. We got to see a few species of dolphins and a blue whale. TRULY PHENOMENAL!!!!

It was a nice day, but no fish were biting. The staff aboard the boat were friendly and helpful. It was an all-around pleasant experience and plan to go again in the near future.

Even though we did not see any blue whales the cruise was great. The captain skillfully guided the boat among a very large pod of dolphins: amazing to watch them play. Glorious weather and calm seas. A wonderful Sunday afternoon.

Friendly crew, and excellent burgers (thank you George)! Captain was eager to find us good catches, and did not hesitate to move as often as necessary to do so. The entire trip was easy and stress free.

A Really fun Outing

Enjoyed the fishing trip out of Dana Point. Great experience for basically first time fishermen. Marcus was exceptional in providing all around service to every one on board. The captain of the boat moved us to four different fishing spots to get the number of fish caught increased. Both the captain and Marcus were out going and tried to provide a good time for every one. A suggestion for future boat trips is rotating the available spots on the stern of the boat. A majority of the people on board were not regulars. The regulars who were the first on board immediately locked down the stern fishing spots and they did not give up the slots through out the entire fishing trip. Recommend that the captain use the manifest list to reassign the slots each time he moves the boat to another fishing position. The fishing off of the stern is obviously the best especially when the captain is "chumming" over the stern so every one should have an equal shot at catching a fish regardless of skills and fishing equipment. Word of mouth is going to work best when every one on board can say that I caught a big one! One last thought is there any way to get rid of the seals who definitely enjoyed the chumming and had no problem catching and eating the fish that were supposed to be on my hook!!
