Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching

Loved this trip, even though it was only 2 hours. Saw blue whales, fin whales, dolphins, and some sea lions. Was a lot of fun, had beautiful views of the Pacific, was exciting to try to spot animals and then race the boat over to where they were, etc. We really enjoyed this trip, although one of us did get seasick so if you have someone with a sensistive stomach this might not be the best trip for them as the ship & speeds make for a choppy, rocking ride sometimes! Otherwise, good price, a lot of fun, and a unique experience!

Saw sea lions. Did not see anything else. gorgeous sunset view. Would maybe go earlier as we were cold. Web site said that if we did not get to see dolphins or whales, would get a $10 coupon for next trip. We were not offered that. Could tell the guys tried really hard to spot something. They said the whales were not seen in this area yet so wondered why this was advertised as a whale watching adventure. Felt somewhat misled on that. Overall good we went, saw the beautiful coastline and the sunset.

We saw blue whales - it was great! We enjoyed the time on the ocean and were thrilled to get to see whales. We really were empressed - when we learned from a friend at the Catalina Island Marine Institute that many of the instructors there had never seen a blue whale - much less three in one day. They were empressed. Just a day on the ocean enjoying the sun is worth it!

The sun was shining, the ocean was fairly smooth and it was such a magically time, as we saw and experienced 5 beautiful Blue Whales and a couple of friendly dolphins along side our our catamaran. The crew was friendly and shared wonderful information about the whales and dolphins. Besides being with a great group of friends. Thank you for the experience. After we'd been fishing for a few hours, one friend wanted to put a lure on her pole and asked the deckhand to help out. He mentioned that since fish really don't really bite at night, it would be best to stick with her current set-up (a hook w/squid) and go to the bottom. This was a bit confusing to us because we thought... if they don't bite at night, what are we doing out here? The other thing that was mentioned by the crew on the way back is that we got stuck with large live bait which "makes it difficult to catch a 12" Bass using 6" bait." I would think they would stock appropriate sized live bait based on what were going for, but forgive me if my statement is incorrect. Beyond this, the crew was friendly and helpful with catches, kelp snags, in the galley, etc. Either way you look at it, we had an enjoyable time and we'd go again.

When I first decided to go Whale Watching, I really didn't expect much. I thought that it would be something to do. I found that it was very relaxing on the boat as we headed out to see in search of whales and dolphins. As it turns out, we did see a whale. He was a 100 foot blue whale. He would go down for about 8 minutes and then surface again. Each time that he did this, the captain would let us know that he should be coming back up and to start looking for him. It was fun when he came back up since you never knew if he would be closer or would have traveled alittle farther along. It became a game of Find the Whale. It was quite enjoyable and I would definitely do it again.

I thought I was getting a great deal by paying $14 (half-price on Tuesdays) to see something that very few people in the entire world ever get a chance to see.

we fished at about 3 sites and caught alot of fish for a half day trip it was really fun and the crew was really helpful especially when getting me a beer i would recommend it to all

It was a beautiful day, nice boat, friendly crew and we saw blue whale, dolphins, and even a hammerhead shark. Great cruise.

Overall a fun trip - we saw dolphins, sharks, and two whales which was more than we expected - so overall a success. The only criticisms of the trip would be the recommendation to get there at LEAST a half hour early as the trip leaves on time - because we stood on the dock for 45 minutes before boarding the boat, only to then depart 20 minutes late (which was expressly stated on the tickets that the trips depart ON TIME) and then stood on the ship for another 2 1/2 hours beyond that. If you are going to insist that participants arrive so early that they must stand and wait to board, you need to leave on time. The boats would be improved if there was also some limited amount of seating available. The crew was great, however, and the naturalist who spoke about the wildlife was knowledgeable and informative. Despite our frustration with the beginning portion of the adventure, I would definitely still recommend for the price. We also arrived back to port an hour later than the booking information stated, which was not a problem for us, but could have been if we had plans beyond the trip. Something to consider.

I usually go out on a friends private boat and was a bit nervous about a chartered fishing trip. The crew put me at ease pretty much before we left the harbor. We had a great time and caught plenty of fish to make the day a huge success. The burgers on board we just short of amazing. We had a great time and I can't wait to go out again. Next time the 3/4 day trip.

Enjoyed the 5 times I went on this event- at various times. Captains and crew were experienced and commited to making sure everyone had a great time.

Evening whale watch tour...saw thousands of dolphins, then TWO Blue Whales. Spent an hour with the whales...saw them up close, and could hear the sound of their blowing...a sound you will never forget...like a call from some prehistoric past. Too beautiful to describe...you have to do it yourself...highly recommend it.

THE FISHING CREW WERE GREAT AND THE CAPTAIN DID HIS BEST TO FIND FISH, BUT THIS WAS THE WORST TRIP ,AS FAR AS CATCH , I THINK IN A VERY LONG TIME. NO REFLECTION ON THE CAPTAIN OR CREW.

We had some friends with their families out for a visit. We went whale watching with Catamaran Adventure Cruises and had a great time. I would highly recommend it.
