Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching

Seeing Great Blue Whales had to be one of the most amazing experiencing I have had. The crew was accomodating, educational and entertaining. What a great day!

Since we did not see any whales we get to come back for free, but if that was not available, we'd still do it!!!

This was a very exiciting expidition. I enjoyed everything about this trip. The boat ride in itself was awesome and then to see all the dolphins; literally hundreds of them swimming right in front of and before the boat. Then we followed a blue whale which surfaced about every 10 minutes, just as the captain said. He was very informative.I got some great photos and video. I loved it and can't wait to do it again.

The whole operation is very professional. Our captain was very knowledgeable and guided us directly to where he knew a whale to be. We watched this whale for at least half an hour. We also "played" with countless dolphins. The only complaint was that the optimal viewing was on the front of the deck, and one had to be a bit aggressive to get there. But overall, the whole experience was most amazing and wonderful. We had one of the most memorable times of our lives! Very highly recommended!

I have been on whale-watching tours in many countries and this was the best. Capt Larry is highly knowledgeable about whales, dolphins, sea birds and the region, and is very enthusisatic. We saw lots of dolphins, a sun-fish and a blue whale. Great! The DVD is well worth buying too! I'll be coming again when I am next in California.

I took my 8 and 5 year old boys on thier first deep sea fishing trip. They caught lots of fish and they loved it. The crew was very helpful and it was a family friendly atmosphere.

I would certainly reccomend this outfit and would definitely do this trip again. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. The boat was clean as well as the bathroom. We did a half day trip that started at 6:30 am and therefore avoided a crowded boat. Fishing conditions that day were not the best, but the captain did manage to put us on some sand bass and calico bass where I was able to land about 5-6 fish and make the trip worthwhile in respect to fishing. The staff serves up an excellent breakfast burrito, breakfast sandwich or a breakfast plate, and is very reasonably priced on all food and beverages on the boat. All in all, good times, I am glad I booked this trip while visiting from Texas and would not hesitate to do so again.

We had heard about the whales being sited in and around Dana Point, and had heard good things about Dana Wharf, so we decided to book our trip! I loved the fact that there was a covered/ wind-blocked area to get out of the elements, and a spacious open deck for passengers of all ages! The crew knew exactly where to take us, and were very knowledgeable about the species of marine life around the area. We were not disappointed and had a great time seeing the Blue Whales, several species of dolphin and sea lions basking on a buoy! 2 hours of fun!

The fishing was extremely slow. We were given sardines instead of anchovies for bait but I dont feel like the tackle provided with the rental rods was suited for the larger more active bait fish. as a result we had more tangled lines with other fishermen on the boat and therefore less fishing. I had to cut my line re-rig up my pole several times due to tangles. Others in my group had the same propblem.

Here are some things I wish I knew before I went on the fishing trip. I wish I would have known to bring needle nose pliers and wire cutters also a knife so I could have taken care of my own re-hooking, detangling and baiting. Also you might want to take into consideration if school's out, on our boat we had so many kids running around it was really irritating. A lot of people brought food to eat on the boat which if I knew I would have done the same. Make sure you bring a small towel for your hands and don't forget a jacket. That's all 

I Had A great time, I took my 3 boys that are ages 5, 9 and 11, the crew and captain where great they help me bait the hooks and of course get them HOOKED UP! I would strongly recommend the boat REEL FUN for a day of fun and fishing with your family.

We got to see a blue whale, the Captain was very good and was able to track it's progress so we got several sightings. Plus a good view of 'The Whale Tail' We also had Dolphins swimming alongside the boat. Great experience and all for half-price so very good value for money.

We had a great day with many friends as there was a lot of relatives and friends together for an upcoming wedding. A great way to get to know each other.
