The trip was very fun. The crew was frendly te captain knew all the good pots and the fishing was great until they moved the boat from the kelt beds. everyone was pulling up nice fish in the kelt beds but the captain moved the boat and everyone got angry and didnt catch a fish. but other than that the trip was very fun and was the perfect lenght.

Great weather, calm seas and saw our 1st whale less than 15 minutes out to sea. Followed that whale and saw him surface, heard him exhale, saw the blowhole and saw him breach and dive deep several times. I loved the blue glow of the water when the whale was swimming just below the surface. It was an awesome experience. I would highly recommend it, expecially on 1/2 price Tuesdays. I think the check in process needs to be a bit more organized. The sign at the door asked that you wait there for the next agent and people were just walking by us and going up to the counter. The people working in the shop and on the boat were friendly and informative.

We sighted 5 Blue Whales on this trip. We even saw a tail flip twice. Would recommend this to anyone. The 1/2 price Tuesday made it even more spectacular

Even though we caught a few too small to keep, it was still a pleasant trip

I am from Laguna Niguel and had my friends in from Chicago and Detroit. We did the Whale Watching Cruise and saw an 80' blue whale, the smallest whale (can't remember the name), sea lions and schools of dolphins. It was a fabulous day and the crew was wonderful.

We have not done the twilight trip in years. However, because of time constraints, we reluctantly booked the twilight trip instead of a morning or afternoon trip. It was one of the best trips I have ever taken. The boat was uncrowded, the crew was helpful, and we caught fish from almost immediately and kept on catching until it was time to leave. Highly recommended.

lots of calicos on light gear

I went out on the Reel Fun 1/2 day boat. I caught about 45 calico bass and 10 mackeral. My friend also caught about 25 fish. we caught all our fish by just flylining an anchovie in front of the kelp and getting bit every 5 sec. Id reccomend a pole with a spinning reel with 15 lb test. dont fish bottom cuz u will be doing a lot of waiting. also i dont reccommend renting poles cuz everybody who did was a newbie and didnt catch anything but mackeral and an occasional sand bass. Definetely reccomend 1/2 day boat.

A different experience
Sat, Jul 10, 10   6:30 AM Jarvisboys Male 40-49 Local Group of Friends
Dana Wharf fishing has always provided my two young boys and I with the great experiences. That is, up until now. We have been on 4 different trips. Clemente Awesome! Our first three excursions were on the "Clemente." The captain of the Clemente will not hesitate to trolley around to find the best area if one location isn't getting anything. With his recommendations on bait for the best bite, to how deep to drop your line, you are constantly being assisted either by the Captain himself or his crew. Sum Fun....Not so fun! On my last outing, I put together a 12 person party on the "Sum Fun." We got to our first location, and that's where we stayed the whole day. We were accompanied by 3 or 4 sea lions that continuously robbed us of bait and catch. Also the fish were not really biting in that location. I was expecting the captain to pull up anchor and get us to a better local, but it never happened. It's a good thing I had bought Hot Dogs and Hamburgers for our Bar-B-Que after. I completely understand that you don't always catch the fish you want, however, it would have nice if they could have at least looked for a bettter local. Bottom line, if you get on the Clemente you'll surely enjoy it. If you end up on the "Sum Fun," You could be headed for disappointment.

We are four friends from Boston. All of us are 15. My grandmother dropped us off and picked us up. We didn't need licenses. We all caught something. The boat crew treated us well and we all had a good time.

June Whale Watching

The crew was extremely nice and helpful. I didn't know there were no seats on the main level and my husband was in a wheelchair so we couldn't go above or below where the seats were which meant standing for 2 hours solid. Not easy with a bad back. We only saw a few dolphins which was nobody's fault. I doubt I will do it again.

magical time with dolphins
Sun, Jun 20, 10   12:00 PM DStroebel Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
We did not see any whales today but what a time we had with a pod of dolphins! There were hundreds of them surrounding us, playing with the wake of our boat and a couple of smaller boats that were nearby . They were moving so fast under and around our vessel. It was so much fun to watch. I'lll never forget that great feeling!

group of four friends. arrived 30 minutes before 10am. purchased license for a day. think it was 12 dollars. rented reel and rod with hooks. needed to leave one ID behind. we thought there would be a problem if one of us wanted to drink on the boat but they said it was ok. That the person on the boat can easily call them from the boat to verify your age on the i.d. 3 of us had never been fishing before, and i had never even been on a boat before. i had no idea what to expect and had no idea what to do. there were several workers that walk around the boat to help you out. they were great, friendly, and knowledgable people. Brooke and tom helped us out most of the time. they seel alcohol there! woo hoo! we had a corona, bud light, heineken, and margarita on the rocks. you HAVE to try their hamburgers!!! so freaken good! they also sold hot dogs. wish they had beverage holders though. no place to put your beer at when the boat is moving. a man on the boat dropped his beer and there was glass everywhere. crew was on top of it though and cleaned and watered everything out. we all caught a couple of fish. we even saw sea lions. some were trying to eat our bait haha. make sure to take sunscreen. we are all burned today. oh also! take drammamine an hour before sailing. lots of ppl were sea sick. including my sisters bf. he threw up a few times THEN took the drammamine haha. he was better towards the end. i felt great though! dont know what else to say. i cant wait to go back! maybe take my dad next time. he would love it. crew was very patient with us first timers. food was great! boat was clean. women's restroom was clean as well. only good things from here :)
