Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching

The weather was great...sunny but not hot. However the fishing was cold. The captain commented early in the trip that the wind had really picked up the night before and had dropped the water temperature. He tried several spots without success. Guess I'll just have to go back when the water heats up.

My 13 year old son and I had a Great time, the crew was very helpful, and attentive. The other visitors on the boat were all plesant, this was our second trip from here, the first one we caught a lot of fish this time we were not as lucky. Both times were a Great time!

We went on the 5 hour fishing trip on a Tuesday so the cost was very reasonable . Not sure the total number of people fishing when we went. Two of my sons each caught a bass and three of us didn't catch anything. The boat was crowded and lines did get tangled. The crew was very quick and curteous to untangle the lines. Also, they were very willing to offer advice and answer any questions. The hamburgers on board were very good! I would recommend Dana Wharf Sport Fishing because the staff on the boat does everything they can to help you catch fish. If you don't catch fish, it's because the fish are not bitting, or you are not following their instructions.

Our family took the evening trip on the Dana Pride, a very roomy and clean boat with plenty of viewing room. Unfortunately we did not find whales on our trip, but ran with several pods with hundreds of common dolphins. My 6 year old daughter was thrilled for the entire trip and the experience was one well worth the price of admission...crew was very nice and helpful, explaining what we were seeing at every step of the way.

Service provided was very efficient and thorough.

Great experience for us non fisherman. The staff was right there to help us when we caught a fish as we had no equipment. It was the deep sea fishing experience I was hoping to have for our family with 3 kids, 10, 15, & 17. Turk's for dinner afterwards was excellent too!

12:00 boat did not leave untill 1:00 because according to captain customers could not find parking. There seems to be a problem with more spots on the charter boats than parking spots in the sportfishing lot that is supposed to be reserved for fishermen. If they are going to cut the 5 hour trip short to wait on late people to park everbody might just as well of parked in the 4 hour max. spaces and saved room for the late comers in the reserved lot. I have never been to any other function that was delayed for so long waiting on late people. As @ airports the tickets said to be there 45 min. early, being we waited untill 1:00 that means people were looking for parking for 1 hour and 45 minutes, I think not? Do the folks that were on time a favor and give them what they paid for. Fishing and boat crew were OK as soon as we got out of the harbor.

Several species of Dolphin were out en masse the day of our trip.

I know that no company can guarantee to see any whales, but i still hoped to see at least one. On the last whale watching trip I took they would stop the boat, shut off the engine, stick into the water some kind of tube with a flare at the end, and a microphone in it, i guess to amplify any sounds that might be heard. I saw 5 whales when they used that technique. This company didn't do that. They just roamed around, or so it seemed. We saw TONS of dolphins, but that's not what I went out to see. Aside from the lack of whales, the boat was nice, the staff were nice. I had no other issues.

We had a great time on the trip even though we weren't very successful in the catch department. Our crew on the Dana Pride was great. They were fun, friendly, and very helpful. My husband went back for another trip the next day and is taking another friend for a trip in a few days. A fun day!

We had a good time on our cruise. The boat was clean and staff was friendly. Since we went out on a weekend a marine biologist was on board. She started us off with some basic but informative facts about the species we might see. Unfortunately we didn't spot a whale but we did see quite a few bottle nosed dolphins. The crew was able to spot them and then keep them engaged so we'd have more time to see them and take photos. I have no complaints about this company or cruise. I think it was a good value for the money and certainly something out of the ordinary to do on vacation.

The crew made the trip an enjoyable fishing experience. They were quickly on the spot to help you bring the fish aboard and take it off your hook.

The staff was super friendly and knowledgable. The captain gave us a great tour and provided us with grerat info about where we were and what we may see. Although we didn't see any whales, we'd do it again and highly recommend it to others.

The deck hands were very helpful, cheerful and knowledgable. The check in process went well and the employees were friendly. I'm looking foreward to my next outing.

Our group was in the area (San Clemente State Beach) for a family reunion - There were 14 of our family on the trip - The weather wasn't the greatest (overcast), and the fishing didn't turn out so good (three of our part of the larger group caught five fish between us and they were great when I cooked them the next night!) - And we still had a great time - The view of the California coast was spectacular! - The crew were helpful and professional - I would certainly recommend this activity to anyone interested in deep sea fishing
