Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching

My wife and I took our grandson(13) for this fishing adventure. The crew was very helpful and friendly. I don't recall how many times(too many to count) that the crew had to untangle our snarled reels, but they did so in a amiable manner not reflecting on our clumsiness. The boat was well maintained and clean with plenty of room for the anglers. We caught 6-12 fish each but they were too small to keep. My only thought was that maybe if we had gone out further( you could clearly see the shore) that the catch might have been larger.

It was a great trip, even though I got really sick) I would recommend it to everyone, it is so much fun and the boat crew is so helpful! Thank you.

We all had a great time on the boat. The crew was very helpful coming to our aid with fishing rods, jammed reels, lost weights and hooks. It was so nice being out on the water and seeing the coastline. In addition we saw wonderful marine life during our trip. We had a great day.

The weather was perfect (heat wave inland but perfect out on the bay) and the crew was very nice and informative. We were joined by many pods of common dolphins that swam alongside and in front of our boat, saw a few fin whales (the crew said that was an unusual sighting), and saw a few blue whales spouting! Quite a successful day as far as seeing marine life. Two of the kids experienced some seasickness when the boat stopped (to view the whales) but they recovered once we were headed back to shore. Parking was easy and free - boat was clean. Would definitely go again, especially on half-price Tuesdays!

I took my mother and daughter for an enjoyable morning cruise. My daughter wanted to ride a boat and we thought this would be a great introduction to boating. Everyone's adventure meter is different, but I had the time of my life. For my 2 yr old, live is always exciting and she had a grin on her face the whole time. What we got was an experience that was out of this world!! Granted, whale sightings are at their best but even if you only saw one whale, the trip was relaxing with great views of the coast line. The day we went, we saw over 15 whales and only had to wait 2-3 minutes between each whale. I was told usually it is 15 minutes because the whales dive deap to eat . This day the Krill was on the surface and the whales didn't have to dive too long. The crew was very courteous and very knowledgable. We took the morning cruise (10am) and the water was calm and there were plenty of young ones on board. They all seemed to enjoy themselves. Especially when the crew brought on board a bucket of Krill for the kids to play with. The boat is nicely supplied with snacks, grub and drinks so if you get the munchies, you will be fine. On the return, we saw a huge pod of dolphins and it was a blast seeing them swimming as fast as they can at the front of the boat. I have lived in Orange County all my life and I don't know why I waited so long to take a whale watching tour. This was the best time and I will definatley do it again and with Dana Wharf. This is truely a gem of Southern California. Enjoy your trip!!

We were up close and personal with several HUGE blue whales feeding. Such smooth waters and so much food at the surface, we enjoyed not only terrific blue whale encounters but close contact with several pods of dolphins and a few friendly sea lions. All that I had hoped for and much more.

We were extremely happy with this whale watching tour. The catamaran was clean & roomy. Not a bad seat on the boat! The staff was helpful, courteous, and educational. We were fortunate to view lots of whales, dolphins, and sea lions. Would highly recommend this to everyone. We will definitely go again!

Best price, great boat, awesome crew...2 hour cruise is just the right length. Taken this tour 3 times now, been whale "watching" from Mexico to Vancouver and THIS IS THE BEST!

The boat was clean and not crowded. The crew was very nice and knowledgeable about whales in the area. The weather was beautiful and we had a wonderful time. We have already recommended this trip to several friends. Thank you to the crew for such a great trip and we will be back.

The crew was fun and enthusiastic and provided a great deal of insight into marine mammals. We saw a dozen blue whales, so it was an extraordinary afternoon of whale watching. Great experience.

We had a grand time. The catamaran and crew were fabulous. We saw 4 blue whales and a sun fish. Crew answered all our questions and my granddaughter enjoyed a great P&J sandwich. You definitely cannot go wrong in booking this type of trip for your family.

The Sunday afternoon (12:45) boats are geared towards kids, especially with the "kids free" option. The crew definitely makes every effort to make sure the kids are having fun. I have been on several of these trips this year on the "Sum Fun" boat, and this crew works very hard. If you want a trip that's going to be very kid-friendly and fun for your kids, this is it. There are plenty of other trips for those who want something a little more quiet...

The launch was on time. The crew was very informative and polite and made us feel welcome. They paid particular attention to our safety. We saw several blue whales and dolfins.
