Something for Everyone--Great Experience
Tue, Sep 20, 11   12:00 PM Revenant222 Male 20-29 Local Family With Children
My wife and I, along with our 18 month old son went blue whale watching last week. Overall we were extremely impressed. We went on a Tuesday, on one of the half-price tours. We were happy with the accessibility of the location. Specifically it was easy to locate off the freeway, free parking was available right near the check-in location, and the relevant dock was within 100 ft. of check-in. Very low stress, which made it easier to manage our very active son. The crew was helpful and the captain's instructions informative as the boat headed out (about 5 minutes after the hour--we had some late arrivals who held things up). As we left the harbor we ran through a (in my opinion) fairly large group of dolphins, which surrounded the boat and were very visually entertaining. My son particularly liked this portion of the experience, as the dolphins were close enough that he could get a good look at them. He called out ever time he saw them for the rest of the two hours, which was fairly often. We saw 3-4 blue whales, which seemed to be taking turns coming up and showing off for the boat. Had a number of good fluke (tail) shots as they dove down, and once the whale surfaced quite close to the boat--it was amazing! Overall a fun experience. Two hours was a bit long for our son, but he did quite well and enjoyed the dolphins immensely, and my wife and I had fun watching the whales as well. Highly recommended.

Fantastic experience!

My whole family loved the whale/dolphin watching cruise. The marine biologist educated us all before we even left the marina. The whole crew was attentive - I was a little sea sick and one of the crew members came out to check on me twice. If you are prone to motion sickness, take a Dramamine before you go, but whatever you do, don't miss this experience! We saw 2 different blue whale groups (mother and calf) and lots of dolphins. I definitely recommend it for people of all ages.

OK, but you had to be in the front of the boat

Crew went to a lot of trouble to find us a whale; however, the front of the boat was not big enough for everyone to have a spot at the rail. For those of us on the side or back of the boat there wasn't a whole lot to see since every time a whale was signted, they always turned the boat so that only those in front could really see it. It would have been nice if they occasionally positioned the boat so that others could see the whales better, rather than just those lucky enough to find a place at the front.

The wife and I went on the half day trip in the middle of september. The crew was extremely helpful and the trip was a blast. Good fun for everyone involved and un-like everything else in california they did not nickle and dime you to death. Next time we are in the L.A. area we will go out again and maybe an even longer trip. Capt. and crew of the Clemente you guys Rock. Mike W Dallas TX

We went on the 2pm trip on december 21, 2008. We saw only one whale, but when we returned to the harbor we suddenly noticed a pod of dolphins behind the boat. We notified the captain. He turned around and suddenly we were amidst hundreds of dolphins. They jumped out of the water on all sides of the boat; it was truly magnificent. I appreciate the extra effort of the crew to stay 10-15 minutes longer on the water so that we could see the dolphins. I will definitely go again.

My fishing-obsessed 6-year-old son has been on this trip 3 times now, and he has a blast each time. The deckhands were incredibly helpful and awesome; they definitely help make the trip worthwhile with their valuable assistance, and are worth their weight in gold! My son and I will definitely be taking this trip again in the near future.

The day was wonderful. Unfortunely, the whales were hiding on us, but the dolphins were out to play. The staff was wonderful and very friendly and courteous. Would go again...

Lots of blue whale viewing, great narrator!

We saw a blue whale repeatedly, who kept resurfacing every 3-5"! The last time the female (per the person guiding the tour) surfaced, she was within 100' of the boat-great photo opportunities!! Also the person running the tour did a great job at narrating and anticipating where the whale would surface next. Great job!

This was a fun event. We didn't see any whales or dolphins, but the whale check with a promise for a future ride softened the blow of that. :) We came in the middle of the day on a weekday, so it was comfortable and not crowded on the boat. Good crew, fun little event for out-of-towners.

The captain did a great job of trying to keep the boat from washing as much as possible on a very windy day.

I had the feeling that we were not looking very hard to find whales. It seems that the captain was happy to show us dolphins, we were not.

The weather was beautiful and our daughter's first time whale watching (3). Unfortunately we didn't see any whales however we saw a massive pod of dolphins. We spent about 40 minutes with them and have awesome pictures. The boat had a group of school children who were absolutely delighted. The staff was informative and would do the trip again.
