Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching

My wife and I totally enjoyed the trip. The captain and crew were professional and very helpful. While the bite was off, the crew worked hard to try to find the fish and we had a great time anyway. I would highly recommend this trip. It is an excellent value for the money.

The crew tried really hard for the passengers to locate whales to watch, by tracking and anticipating them as they dived and resurfaced. The whales were a little harder to find than the dolphins that swam close by the boat, but the crew was successful and we had an great experience.

For this month's Father Daughter day, my princess asked to go fishing in the ocean. I have gone out of Dana Warf many times so naturally I went to their website to get more information. They had an offer that was perfect for us. She was free and her pole rental was free. There was a clinic before the trip for the kids to show them how to tie on their hooks and how to properly bait the hook. She was ready to go. Since this was her first trip into the ocean I did not have a lot of expectations for a good time. Sea sickness, boredom and disinterest were my concerns. She loved the boat ride comparing it to a ride. As far as the other two concerns that was a non-issue almost from the first cast. Fishing was horrible because of the sudden water temperature drop but she didn't care. She landed two fish and has her own "One that got away" story. She was very upset when the captain told us to pull in our lines because we had to head back. The crew was even impressed that she liked getting her own bait since a majority of the other kids (mostly boys) wouldn't. It was a great bonding day which was the true goal. She is already planning our next fishing trip. By the way she read that you have sleep over trips. I wonder how her Hello Kitty sleeping bag will fit in with the rest of the fishermen's gear. We went on the evening cruise between 5 and 7 PM - there had been whale sitings reported throughout the day, so we were taken out to an area where they had been feeding. We followed the activity of one whale for much of our trip until the whale's surfacings became too erratic. Noting that it was most the likely the end of a feeding cycle for "our whale", the captain quickly changed course to view another whale in the area. The crew was helpful and provided informative commentary about the whales and their feeding and migration patterns. And the sightings were breathtaking and worth the wait. We enjoyed our trip and would recommend it to anyone who is willing to be flexible, as there is no guarantee that you will get to see the whales during your trip.

My husband and I took this cruise for our 3rd wedding anniversary. It was absolutely amazing! I know a lot of it is circumstancial, but we saw 2 blue whales on our trip!!!!! One of them was almost right next to boat. One of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. The crew was also very nice and informative and we learned a lot about the whales. It was also nice that the crew was very strict about some small children that were being loud and obnoxious. They quieted them down so everyone else could enjoy the trip. It was much appreciated :)

We've been out whale watching with Dana Wharf many times, and have never been disappointed. Even on cruises when we haven't seen any whales, the crew does its very best to make it an enjoyable trip, and will seek out (enormous!) pods of dolphin or other sea life to share with the visitors. On our most recent trip this weekend, though, we saw more blue whales than we could keep track of. Through the entire two hours, Captain Larry shared all kinds of interesting facts and information about them as well. It was a trip that we'll never forget!

Did not see any whales or dolphins so a little disappointed.

I would highly recommend the evening cruise. There is nothing like it! The crew was amazing, they were all very respectful and knowledgeable. Watch the sun go down as you fish for sea bass...who could ask for more? Definitely going to do this again!

The evening we went whale watching was perfect.. calm sea's, warm weather, boat not crowded.. so it was an enjoyable outing for us and my brother and his family visiting from the East Coast. I will say the captain and crew knew where to look and we hung out with the fin whale that was around....saw a pod of dolphins WAY OUT in the distance which were closer to shore and on the way back in - stopped to visit a couple of sea lions hanging out on the buoy. Pretty much that was it... If I did it again, I would definitely do it on 1/2 price Tuesday or wait until Whale Season Migration. The boat was clean, but I don't think the experience was above and beyond, captain and crew had very little interaction with the passengers but didn't hesitate to direct passengers to the tip jar at the end of the 2 hours.

Nice, short trip, just enough for small kids, especially if there are not many whales to find. A little expensive for what you get, however. Coupons don't save much.

Crew is great, captain found good spots where fish were biting.. Took 10lbs of bass with us! Highly reccomend the wharf... Go on a longer trip!

We had friends that wanted to see dolphins and we did so! No whales this trip but maybe next time,.

Although we did not see any whales, we saw dolphins and other marine wildlife. The crew were very courteous and enthusiastic. I would recommend this tour with friends and family.
