Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching

I would like to suggest if you can improve your inside setting bench bit lower will be more safe for elder people. My parent and other couple fall down from bench when they get up from the seat. Also the cushion is slippery not steady. Rest of activity is very good. C Lynn

Dana Point is a beautiful area, the wharf is interesting and fun, and the Wind and Sea restaurant on the wharf had yummy soup and fresh calamari to warm us up after the trip. We had a great time and will certainly do it again, and recommend it to friends and out-of-town visitors.

We were lucky enough to observe a mother and her newborn baby on this whale watching trip. The captain's explanation of the whales we were observing and their migration habits was very helpful. Overall a very enjoyable cruise.

the captain kept up a commentary and seemed to be very knowledgeable about marine life, in particular whales. They have high success rate of finding whales because they track them as they travel down the coast. He found a whale from another boats spotting by going down the coast about thirty miles. H ethen spotted on his own an unreported mother and baby whale on the trip back. Because we were heading back he extended trip about 15 minutes for us to view the mother and baby. Check for internet coupons. Tuesday is usually half price. Buy tickets at least a few hours in advance on weekends and holidays as they do sometimes sell out. They have food, drinks and bathroom on board. Ship is clean. It is small ship so avoid this (and all whale tours) if you get seasick.

The crew was so knowledgable and fun. The was beautiful - couldn't have asked for a better experience. Saw some gray whales, the crew explained so much - not too crowded - absolutely I would recommend to family and friends.

Whale watching is unpredictable, so don't expect to see the same show as the previous tour group - these whales are on the move - and fast! I was disappointed to only see 1 fin whale, but that's nature! There is great information about whales from the tour guide while waiting for "fin-again" (fin whale) to surface. I learned quite a bit, eventhough there wasn't much to see. We were lucky, however, to ride up on a huge pod of dolphins. It was just like DiCaprio in"Titanic", but much better!

Great day. Saw one whale but was even more excited about the dolphins. :) guide was extremely knowledgeable and crew was friendly.

We were able to follow a female Gray Whale for quite some time, and she kept fluking every few minutes. We also saw a pod of several hundred common dolphins with babies. This was our first time ever seeing whales and dolphins in the wild, and we were very pleased with the trip and the crew. Thank you!

My husband & I are locals who never took advantage of this wonderful resource right on our own backyard until this past week. We had a wonderful time on the whale watching tour and found our captain to be so interesting and very knowledgeable about the sea life in the area. The boat ride was great and the crew were friendly & helpful. We plan to come back again as soon as possible to see more whales and dolphins!

The crew was fantastic at helping us get started fishing since we hadn't fished in many years! They were fabulous and helped make this a very fun event! The boat was wonderful and had great food aboard! It was a fabulous experience that we will be sure to do again!

Though we didn't see whales, we did see a couple different dolphin species. The last species of dolphins that we saw were super friendly and came right up to the boat! TIP: it gets cold out in the waters. Bring a light jacket.

On our ladies getaway this year we decided to take a whale watching tour in California - what a wonderful choice! Our tour guides were informative and helpful and made every effort to ensure we would see something. Although it wasn't technically whale season (Nov 6), we did see a fin whale - awesome. What I liked best though was the school of dolphins they brought us to - that alone was worth it. Rounded out with a sea lion sunning, this trip was fantastic! Even had we not seen any wildlife (how is that possible?), the ride alone would be worth it.

We spent too long looking at the common dolphins. I felt like we should have moved on to find the whales.

We had a wonderful time! The crew was very helpful and gave us all the facts on the wildlife we saw during our Catamaran ride. We didn't see any whales but we did see hundreds of dolphins as they swam along side the boat for quite some time. It was an incredible experience that we will definitely plan to do again the next time we visit Dana Point. I highly recommend this adventure and taking advantage of 1/2 price Tuesday's made it affordable for us to do something out of the ordinary during our stay at the beach.

What a great way to get on the water, enjoy the SoCal sun, and experience nature! The staff are friendly and helpful. The boat is just big enough and not crowded. From the time you leave the dock it is a wonderful and relaxing experience. You never lose sight of land even though you go out about a mile. The contrast of open sea ahead and mountains to the rear makes you realize how amazing California is. As your eyes scan the horizon for the tell-tale "puff" of a whale you note the deep greens and blue of the water. Suddenly there dolphins breaching just ahead! Take some videos with your phone so you can re-live the motion as well as the action. 2 hours is just enough..and if you don't find whales the company gives half off coupons for the next trip you take, and once you've gone out there will definitely be a next trip! Grab some food at Turk's either before or after your trip. Great bar with food place, lots of atmosphere that will remind you of days past, and delicious food!
