Wonderful experience with passionate crew

You could tell that the captain was a little concerned whether or not we'd find some whales at the beginning of our trip. It was getting towards the end whale migration. The crew was glued to their binoculars. When we stumbled upon a mother and her calf the crew was thrilled and high fiving each other. The whales put on quite a show for us. The mother breached twice, including once simultaneously with her calf. While other boats in the area pulled in for a few minutes, our captain stayed with the whales for a long time, keeping a respectful distance. He was clearly passionate about these animals, providing lots of information about them with no script. It was a highly memorable trip.

Half day fishing with kids
Mon, Apr 21  10:00 AM rjjump Male 50-59 Local Family With Children
Expect some frustration if you have younger kids. The half day trips pretty much sit at local kelp beds and the boat is positioned where the stern swings near the kelp. 90% of the fish will be caught from the back. The areas are over fished so the fish are small and hide in the kelp. Frequent fisherman will stake the best spots. The captain will announce a time for people to rotate but that will be half way through the trip. Most people will mill around a bit but grab spots close to where they were. So unless you are aggressive and force your way in you will not likely get a prime spot. I would do that but with my younger kids you cant as they are not good enough fisherman to handle the tight combat fishing that happens in the back. If you want to see the local coastline from a boat, have a snack and enjoy a day at sea then it is fine. If you go thinking of catching decent size fish then do something else. I have went 5 times with my small kids and always the same story 100+ fish caught but only a few legal size....and I am talking barely legal. I have not seen anything over 18" or a couple pounds ever caught.

while we didn't see anything except 1 whale and a calf, on our way back into dock, we were still given whale cards for a free return excursion which was extremely nice and there is no expiration for them which apparently is what they offer and I didn't know that - awesome customer service. Also bought some hoodies from their store. Can't wait to use them!!! Captain was very knowledgeable and told us many facts throughout the cruise.

Lots of dolphins!

This was a fun way to spend our morning. Although no whales were seen on our adventure, we did get to see a large grouping of dolphins up close. And of course sea lions. A little disappointed about no whales but we understand that sometimes that happens. Still it was very fun and do recommend this trip.

A wonderful experience!

We were very lucky to cone into a large pod of Dolphins, despite heading out in fog. We were totally surrounded by hundreds of swimming jumping dolphins - truly an experience of a lifetime. The boat was immaculate. Overall great, but I did find the one staff member was rather curt for no reason. He no longer seemed to be enjoying his job. Overall it was more than we hoped for.

This was our second time visiting the Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching. It is a family favorite. We saw lots of whales this trip and lots of dolphins on the last trip. We always enjoy being out on the boat as well. The prices are so reasonable and the schedule is very accommodating. We love this excursion. Thank you!

Smooth boating, saw many many dolphins and a Whale and her calf! We were all excited. I was as thrilled as my two grandchildren, 10 and 12 were to see as much as we did. Easy, pleasant and lots of fun! We will definitely do it again, especially when visitors come in to town.

I went on this trip with my son and my niece, both 7 yrs old. We did see a lot of dolphins swimming, not jumping so much and we saw one whale. It is something to do if you enjoy relaxing on a boat for a ride, nothing too exciting.

Truly Amazing! Can Not Wait To Do This Again!

My sons and I loved it! We saw dolphin sign right away, several swam with the ship and I got some fabulous photos. We also saw two Gray Whales and traveled with them for several minutes. The bonus was when we slowed to the outer sea buoy that was packed with seals, a seal pup came up to the ship and checked us all out - he was so adorable. The Captain was extremely knowledgeable and provided the perfect amount of information. The crew was very friendly and my sons had a very tasty lunch from the galley. Dress very warmly - a sweatshirt is not enough for an excursion in open water!

Whales & dolphins! You've got to see them!
Tue, Apr 1  10:00 AM KathyRyan Male 70+ Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
Our family has been vacationing at the beach for many years but this was the first time during the whale migration. Our group of 7, ages 13 to 70 all had special moments on this trip. We saw several whales and experienced one breaching. An unexpected highlight was traveling with a large dolphin pod which appeared to be feeding. Our captain had observed the pod on our way to view the whales and made sure we got up close and saw them on the way back. Every member of the crew that we met wished us a good morning and made us feel very welcome; smiles all around. The captain and crew were very professional and the boat was very clean and well maintained. As we were first in line we got to go to the bow of the boat which was one of the best places to watch the sea life. Also it was one of the more windy places to be so we were happy to have brought hooded sweatshirts and jackets. On another note, parking was very close and convienent and we were taken care of very well at the ticket desk. I would have no reservation about recommending Dana Wharf for a whale watching tour.
