Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching

We saw dolphins and one whale -- one person in our group was from Montana and it was his first time seeing the ocean and of course his first time seeing marine life. The Dana Pride is my favorite boat -- the captain and his crew are exceptional. I would (and have) highly recommend the Dana Pride to my friends and out-of-town visitors. I went with my mom on the whale watching excursion. I enjoy the time on the boat. The scenery was beautiful!!! Though we did not see any whale, we did see lots of dolphins =) I recommend this excursion to others.

I would describe this as a nice boat ride in the ocean. People expecting to get a clear view of a whale may be disappointed. Go with an open mind and with some luck you might see one or two from a distance. However its cool to see a number of dolphins and sea lions in the open ocean. Overall, its a fun acitivty. Go prepared with some warm clothing and binoculars for better viewing. The staff on the boat help to keep the trip lively and interesting.

I chose the last catamaran cruise scheduled for the day. Dana Warf states on their tickets that everyone should arrive 30 minutes early because each cruise departs exactly on time. Mine did not. My boat was 20 minutes late from the earlier cruise. The captain did not make up for the delay by staying out an extra 20 minutes. Instead we returned to the dock exactly on time so our cruise was cut short by 20 minutes.. which was unfortunate because at the time we turned back we were following a whale. I will not take their cruise again. I expressed my displeasure to the crew.. they told me to speak to the captain..... he was no where to be found.

There were too many people on the boat and several families brought on large strollers which took up even more room. Occasionally the captain would get on the microphone but it was so staticy, we could not understand him and to top it off not only did we not see any whales, we did not see any dolphins either. We did however see a group of seals and in the end they returned our tickets to us but the problem was I had gone with a friend from out of town so she will never be able to use that returned ticket.

We saw no whales nor dolphins. We found out there were 5 whales but it was to far to go there. Dolphins garanteed, it was not the case. It is life, we did not get lucky that day. I know they are wild animals and understand that we cannot admire them all the time. It is not your fault. We got 2 ticktes to get back another day, which we will do soon for sure. I hope to see them ! I am crossing my fingers.

Everyone on board will enjoy this voyage. The crew was helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. They took us straight to the whales and respectfully followed them for a while assuring that we all got that once in a lifetime picture of the flukes (tail) coming out of the water. It was a wonderful family experience.

Whale watching was a little disappointing, as the whales we saw were far away, but we did see a whale rolling over, a fin in the air, and many spouts of water. However, the 20-30 dolphins we saw swimming next to the boat made it worth it!!

My husband and myself were very much thrilled with whole experience. We had previously gone out of San Pedro and Newport Beach. Although the drive from Placentia was farther the overall experience was super!!! We found that the boat was clean and maintained, the staff friendly and very informative when it came to the whole experience. We did not feel crowded into a small space to observe the whales and dolphins. I would actually recommend this Whale Watching Cruise to all my friends. Thanks for the wonderful time on the sea!!!!

Great time. Bring a jacket. It was cold out on the water and the sun was shining. Saw 4 whales and many many dolphins swimming along the boat. Very cool. Take 2 Dramamine if you are the queasy type. You will need it!

Would recommend. In fact going back this weekend with a family member

We took the 10 am cruise and were able to enjoy not only great weather but a terrific experience. Captain was very knowledgable and after leading us to schools of dolphin brought us within photographic distance of several grey whales. Only negative part about the trip was the number of other boats with inexperienced skippers who tended to spook the whales and prevented us from getting a closer look. Nevertheless, a very enjoyable experience.

Thank you for making mine and my families trip enjoyable. The crew was wonderful, and my children had a great time.

I'm kinda paranoid about being in the ocean, but this whale watching trip was a blast. The captain was informative, and the crew professional. We saw common dolphins and 3 gray whales.
