Awesome Date!
Sun, Feb 14  4:00 PM Jrine2 Female 20-29 Unspecified Couple on a Date
I booked a whale watching trip for our valentines day date. We went on the sunset cruise and it was wonderful. We got to see some fin whales and followed them for most of the trip. The sunset was beautiful, the crew was amazing! I would go back and do this trip again and again! Amazing experience!

Three fin whales lunge feeding with a golden sunset in the background. It doesn't get any better than that!

Fantastic

I had my doubts that we would actually see any whales and thought at least we would get a great sunset. I was wrong we encountered 3 whales and it was very impressive trailing the whales. I am sure there are times where the sightings are nil but I would still recommend the cruise. The crew is helpful and have some knowledge of sealife.

My wife and I took the trip as part of Valentine's Day and were both pleasantly suprised. We got to see several fin whales up close and had a blast. The crew was great.

Amazing whale watching experience

We got extremely lucky on the Valentines day sunset cruise and stumbled upon a pod of fin whales. They are ordinarily shy and aloof, but we saw them surface and even lunge feed several times from close proximity. Pretty amazing. Even without the great sightings, the boat was smooth, the crew was nice, the other passengers were gracious and fun. Go.

Amazing Tour!

These captains definitely know what they're talking about, and know exactly how to find the best places to watch. After stalking some Fin Whales for about an hour around an erratic course, we finally got ahead of them, and they surfaced right next to the boat! I will definitely tour with Dana Wharf again. And anyone who doesn't is definitely missing out.

We were lucky to see several Fin whales, the second largest animal on earth. The entire crew was helpful and enthusiastic. I will definitely go again!

Locals finally get to see a whale
Sun, Feb 14  2:00 PM bdalexander Female 20-29 Local Couple on a Date
My husband and I had originally planned out whale watching for saturday, However, traffic was so bad we couldn't make it in time. But Dana Wharfwas so flexible, they let us reschedule for Sunday without a fee.We were so relieved. To make things even better, we actually got to see a whale! The captain kept the boat by the whale for a good 15 minutes and constantly moved the boat around so we could get the best view. It was amazing.

Beautiful day

Our boat was the first of the day to see a gray whale. I have never been that close to a whale. The pod of dolphins we saw was huge, there had to be at least a hundred dolphins jumping in and out of the water. I do recommend having a camera with no delay if you want pictures. The crew was very friendly and informative. Best place to be is in the front of the boat.

Loved it the first time, disappointed the second

I live in San Clemente and heard about the Whale Watching in Dana Point from a local friend, when my aunt came out for vacation I took her Whale Watching. This was in the middle of November so we didn't see any whales, however the boat crew was great and it was very nice and relaxing, well worth the money. So when my husband came home from deployment I thought I would take him and what better time to go then on Valentine's Day when the whether is great, not to mention it is right around whale season! Well it was nothing like I had expected and I kept actually apologizing to my husband. First off they put us on a fishing boat and we were packed like sardines, second there was really no where to sit, third I thought there would be a bar like area becuase there was on the first trip I had taken so my husband and I were wanting to order a rum and coke and it wasn't avalible on this fishing boat. I was so excited to bring my husband on this whale watching trip that I got him excited and by the end we just looked at one another and thought, "Never again", I just kept thinking about how different it was from my first trip and what a waste of money this trip was. On the bright side we did spot one whale in the distance, but no dolphins. Needless to say we will not be going again and we also talked our friends out of going because prior to my bad experience I was telling them they had to go. When we got back from that trip I informed them to not waste their money.

Great way to spend the day!
Sun, Feb 14  2:00 PM go2girl Female 20-29 Local Couple on a Date
It was a gorgeous day on Valentine's Day and my boyfriend and I really enjoyed the cruise. We actually saw a whale which was really amazing! We also saw hundreds of Dolphins! It was incredible to experience. I understand that the people on the boat cruise before us didn't see whales, so I guess it's kind of a hit or miss. We lucked out. But I think it's nice to be out on a boat on a beautiful day anyway. The only thing that I was a little disappointed about was that it was advertised to come with champagne for couples since it was on Valentine's Day, but we didn't get any. Other than that, it was an enjoyable experience. Highly recommended!

Always a joy.....

I've been on this tour before and had a great time. The first time we saw no whales, in fact you can't count on seeing whales. Often you do see them, but not always. This time we saw a gray whale and a huge pod of dolphins. It was magical. No matter what sea life you are fortunate enough to see, this is a great experience and a wonderful way to get another perspective on the area.

Good activity for familes and guests
Sun, Feb 14  12:00 PM jafmar Female 50-59 Local Family With Children
Excellent activity for your kids (mine were age 6 and 10); (but you may want to take dramamine for motion sickness if you or kids tend toward that -- we did and I think it helped my little one to enjoy it more). The boat had a naturalist aboard which was very helpful as she showed pictures of dolphins and whales found in this part of California. It's chilly on the ocean, so bring a light jacket or sweatshirt. Binoculars were nice to have as were a couple of drinks and lite snacks for kids (though they do sell them on board also). The 25 min ride out to the deeper part was a bit boring for my kids, but we got to see a pod of 100+ dolphins playing and jumping which took the boredom right out! Recommendation: Arrive a bit early if you get anxious about standing in lines to check in; although they handled it well. Many people had to stand the entire trip, so if you or your guests cannot stand, get in the dockside waiting line early and go on the "upper" level where there is booth-like seating.
