Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching

Must say we were very lucky to spot a whale 10 - 15 minutes out in the ocean and kept following it for about half an hour. The crew was very helpful in providing information about the pattern of the whale being observed - when it goes for a big dive, when it will surface back, and the sort. It was a perfect day out - being the 10 am tour we did not have much people on the trip and could move around easily. I came with my 16 month old who had her jacket on. One of the crew members also offered their jacket to keep her warmer. That was a nice gesture, isn't it? Then we spotted a few sea lions which kept posing for the photos. It was good that the crew did their most to search and find as many life they could spot in the ocean. Overall I would highly recommended it though I do not know how my feedback would have been if we did not spot any !

Whale watching is of course dependent on whales being in the area to begin with, so in that regard we were lucky. That said, Captain Tom and Larry(?) did an amazing job of getting us where the action was, tracking a large pack of sea lions, a huge pod of dolphins and keeping us just astern of a gray whale and predicting with remarkable accuracy when and where it would surface. I got sea sick and Larry's good advice got me through the worst of it and had me feeling human before we got back to shore. Recommended. Dress warmly.

We had a great experience. The crew was friendly and explained to everyone when they spotted something and interacted well with the passengers. Most important to me was their schedule. We left exactly at our departure time and returned on time. I hate when you have to wait around for people to show up. I would do again and again and again.

The day was beautiful,sunny, and the sea was pretty clm. We saw dolphins of 2 different species. The captain was a wonderful teacher and guide. Thanks for a marvelous trip.

Only saw one whale on the trip but just being out on the boat was just to much fun.

We enjoyed our trip tremendously, treated from start to finish as if we were part of there family. Given a complete narrative of our surroundings and marine life.They were as enthusiastic as we were upon whale sightings. I would recommend this trip highly.

No whales the day we did the whale watching, but plenty of dolphins, a nice crew and the will to do it again as soon as possible!

The day we went we did not see any whales and saw 5 dolphins from a distance. Because of this we were given free passes to do another tour any time in the future. The captain was well informed and able to describe the dophins etc. We would do this tour again.

For those who do not want to be out for an extended time, two hours is just right. I usually go with the longer rides, but thought this was a good price. I think returning our ticket (no whale policy) is a very nice thing to do.

Six of us, three generations -- ranging in age from 79 to 22 took the tour, and everyone of us enjoyed it very much. This is the third time we have taken this tour, and each one seems to be more fun than the last. The weather was perfect, the tour guides very knowledgeable and helpful, and we saw lots of activity in the water. I didn't see a whale myself, but we saw several the last two years we were here. More fun than the whales are the hundreds of dolphin that we saw this time. They chase the wake, and surround the boat. We also saw hundreds of pelican feeding and diving for fish. It was just a very enjoyable, fun and delightful experience for all six of us.

On board staff very friendly and was impressed with their knowledge and dedication to their job and for the sea life. Enjoyed the cruise even though we did not see any whales. Many dolphins. We would do it again.

Friendly and knowledgable

We couldn't have asked for a better experience! We are looking forward to doing this again in July/August to see Blue Whales & we'll be choosing the same outfitters! The captain and deck hands were all great, knowledgeable and friendly. Their experience enabled us to not only see grey whales but to follow their path as they migrated down the coast. This is truly an experience our family will never forget- fun for anyone who enjoys the great outdoors! Children 3 to 93 will all be impressed and captivated not just by the ocean animals but also by the captains banter and knowledge of all things "ocean"! We enjoyed this excursion so much that we went twice the week we were visiting!
