Very enjoyable day

My spouse and I did the day trip with Danger Charters and had a great time. We were on the boat with 10 other passengers. This was a great group size. The guides on our charter were very knowledgeable and fun. We had a great time. We would recommend this activity to our family and friends and if back in Key West would definitely do the trip again.

Fantastic Day with a Great Crew

We can't say enough about our day with Danger Charters. The crew were extremely helpful, friendly and the service was top notch. Our party included 4 teenagers and 2 adults. All had fun and enjoyed the snorkeling, kayaking and swimming at the sandbar - even with the nine foot + hammerhead shark joining in the fun. We are somewhat frequent visitors to the Key West area and have enjoyed many different "on-the-water" activities but this is by and far, the best experience of them all. In addition, you capture sailing, kayaking, and snorkeling all in one trip, one price, one day. Great Value!

Great day on the water

We were really pleased with the day we spent with Danger Charters. Our son was a bit hesitant about kayaking and snorkeling, but Don, Kristy and Haig were very patient with him and he said it was the best thing we did on vaction in Key West. The sail out to the island was fantastic and we lucked out and saw several pods of dolphins on the way back. Would definitely recommend this trip for families!

Danger Charters Key West
Mon, Mar 23  10:00 AM DaveRoberts Male 50-59 International Tourist(s) Family Without Children
I went out with Danger Charters on their full day sailing, kayaking and snorkelling trip in March 2009 for the second time (first was in 2001) with different friends. We all enjoyed the day immensely. The captain and crew are great - friendly, courteous and helpful. The lunch provided was of good quality and the wine kept flowing through the afternoon. Kayaking around the mangrove island was interesting and good fun - we saw a young Barhead Shark, nesting Ospreys, trees full of pelicans and a sea turtle - all very interesting. We were four English people and the other 14 (or thereabouts) were from various parts of America and Canada. Everyone got on well as the group size is not too large. I would strongly recommend this activity. Dave Roberts & Alice Maslen - Richmond, GB

Okay food, nice crew, weak watersports

We took the "full day snorkeling and kayaking" Danger Charters out of Key West in March, 2009. The weather was slightly overcast and breezy. Captain "D" had the helm and Christian and "Sunshine" crewed. We are regular but not "hardcore" kayakers. Neither of us had snorkeled since childhood. We didn't expect any huge physical challenge, but thought from the promotional materials that the snorkeling and kayaking would be more than symbolic. First, the positives: Christian and Sunshine were friendly and fun, the boat was clean and functioned well, and the beverages and snacks flowed freely, although the food was not nearly as fancy as described in the promotional materials. So-so lunchmeat, Tostitos, some questionable dip. Many chose the peanut butter and jelly instead. Worse though, the snorkeling was basically worthless, and the kayaking was not much better. Breezy (although in no way severe) weather had reduced visibility and created an uncomfortable "chop." While the weather was not Danger's fault, Captain "D" was more petulant than apologetic about the conditions: "Well, this is it. Do it or don't. The sooner you're done, the sooner you can drink." There was nothing to look at but a few small fish and a starfish, barely visible in the murk. Danger should take a cue from Pennekamp and other reputable tour operations and cancel or offer partial refunds if the weather won't permit good snorkeling, instead of throwing up their hands and taking your money anyway. Similarly, due to the chop, the captain opted for a basic jaunt to and from a small mangrove key, rather than boating through the channels of Man Key as we were told they normally did. It was much better than the snorkeling, but still very insubstantial -- perhaps 45 minutes of paddling and sitting at the island. I question whether this dumbing down of the kayak trip was necessary, as conditions were quite a bit calmer by that time of day. This was somewhat offset by a good basic informational talk the crew gave about the mangroves. But again, Danger should cancel, or offer a reduction to the half-day trip (and price) if the weather will not allow the scheduled activities. It also would have been nice if the captain had given more passengers a chance to work with the sailboat, which was part of the appeal taking a sailing vessel. He picked one man he seemed to favor and only let him participate in the sailing. Captain D also drank during most of the sail, and while it did not visibly impair his ability, it was unprofessional. The bottom line is that this is a day sail with drinks and snacks, with the option of some marginal snorkeling and kayaking. It's "rain or shine," no refunds, and if the sporting activities are not viable, it will be your loss, not Danger's. I would recommend anyone interested in even semi-serious snorkeling or kayaking to seek out a company willing to cancel if the weather dictates, which can be done for far less than $100 per person.

we had a windy and chilly (by florida standards) morning for our start to the day. even though we couldn't do anything about the weather, dennis, sunshine and christian did an amazing job of making it a fun day. the food was awesome and the drinks limitless. the kayaking was very informative and interesting. i would do it again but hope for better weather. a great way to see the keys.

Highlight of our trip

We booked this trip with Danger Charters after doing a bit of research and consistently seeing them described as the best. We were not disappointed. The crew were extremely welcoming, friendly, fun and relaxed and made us feel at home on their beautiful sailboat. The snorkeling and kayaking were fantastic, lunch was delicious, there were plenty of snacks and beverages and even the sail out to sea and back in was wonderful--we saw dolphins swimming alongside our boat both ways. Definitely one of the few things in Key West that is truly worth the money.

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!

We were on a boat with Cpt. Haig, Christy and Dawn. They are an AWESOME crew! They were prepared for everything, from seasickness to having Vaseline for snorkelers with a mustache! They provided an outstanding lunch of fresh caught tuna salad, chicken salad, deli meats, etc. Christy did a great job going over nautical charts with everyone and talking about the history and giving alot of interesting general information about the Keys and the area. The snorkeling at the reef was fantastic! When we went over to the mangrove islands to kayak, my husband and I wound up in Chrisy's group, and I'm not sure of her background, but she certainly has enough knowledge of the area to be a marine biologist. We learned so much and had a great time! The price is unbelievable! The ride back to Key West was spent with the crew answering so many questions about places to go and things to do on the island. They all have tremendously friendly personalities and were so helpful and really wanted to make sure that everyone had a great time, not only on their day excursion, but while they were on Key West as a whole. Mike and I will definitely return if we are lucky enough to visit Key West again. This is a MUST DO for your vacation!

We booked the full day snorkel/kayak trip and were very pleased with the entire experience. The crew, Haig, Christy and Don, were extremely knowledgeable, charming and very helpful. They created a relaxing and fun atmosphere aboard the boat and went out of their way to insure that everyone had a positive, safe and enjoyable experience. The snacks and lunch were delicious. I will definitely be doing another outing with Danger Charters the next time I'm in Key West.
