Dive-In Theater Boat Cruise of Bar Harbor

The Diver Ed show was a lot of fun. He is very entertaining and a great experience to expose the kids to some ocean wild life. Definitely recommend. Be sure to get there early. They recommend 20 minutes before the show. We were running a little late and got there only 10 minutes early and had to run to catch the boat.

This is a wonderful experience for kids, including enthusiastic grown-ups. The crew, consisting of Diver Ed and Captain Evil (and, of course, Mini Ed #95) was hilarious. All sorts of fascinating and mildly disgusting animals were brought up from the sea floor for us to handle. They also had a very high tech camera so we could see what Diver Ed and Mini Ed were doing under water. I would write more but some things should be left as a surprise. Book in advance, as Diver Ed is wicked popular!

"I never witnessed anything like it before!" raved our 10-year-old. Diver Ed's tour was action-packed, well-narrated and just right for the sensibility of (our) boys--lots of chances to get up close to squishy, slimy, "scary" sea creatures. We were amazed that in the midst of this, real learning took place (even for the parents)! Very well-organized, definitely worth the price of admission. A very unique and fun memory from our vacation in Maine.

This was our second year with Diver Ed and Captain Evil as well as their beautiful Newfoundlands. Their love of ocean life and Frenchman's Bay is evident in their two hour scenic, entertaining and educational tour. We saw and touched lobster, crabs, clams, seastars, sea cucumbers, etc. We also viewed porpoise families jumping and bald eagles flying over. Combined with the beautiful views it could not have been better. Just remember to bring sunscreen and water! Best for families with kids who are under, say 13. Older kids may not be so much into the type of fun and hands-on experience. However, it is educational for all ages.

It was a cold and rainy day that our family of 15 adults and 5 children ages 1-6 went on this adventure and had it not been for the cold, it would have been perfect. Diver Ed was a caring, interactive, fun and funny man that did a wonderful job of engaging the children. Captian Evil was a knowlegable woman who held your interest while Diver Ed was under water.

There were seven of us in our family group ranging in age from 8 to 98. We all enjoyed Diver Ed (and Captain Evil) and have strongly recommended them to others!

hidden gem. We had a wonderful time, Education, entertainment, exploration all rolled into one trip. The kids had a great time watching Ed and Mini Ed under water while Captain Evil (Edna, his ever patient wife) interpreted his findings, and then giggled and squealed as he explained about the marine life he brought to the surface. Finally they got to safely hold, touch, and even kiss the animals themselves. Certainly a highlight of our trip to Bar Harbor. We even got to see harbor seals basking on an island during low tide.
