| Diver Ed and Captain Evil (I think that is the name he used, I call her Captain Edna) were superb hosts, educators and entertainers. Our grandson is 9 and our granddaughter is 12, both sat on the edge of their seats the entire trip. Diver Ed interacts with the group while walking along the ocean floor with Mini Ed. As he discoveres the sea creatures he shares the various aspects of each one. He then places them in a safe bag to bring onboard for all to see and touch. They had the opportunity to hold sea cucumbers, scallops, crabs, lobsters, sea stars, sand dollars, star fish and even a sponge; many in various sizes. We not only learned of the living sea creatures but also the equipment required to allow Diver Ed to walk along the ocean bottom. The kids had great fun "helping" him into the water and expanding his water suit upon his return to the boat. We recommend any kid at heart to join Diver Ed and Captain Edna on the Starfish Enterprise for a trip you will not soon forget. | ||||||

| The cruise sails from College of the Atlantic, which is fascinating in its own right. The program is excellent for adults who have an interest in Maine sea life and enjoy a cruise. The Park Ranger was both enthusiastic and very knowledgeable. Not only did we see eider ducks, gray & harbor seals, dolphins, gulls (of course), heard about the bird populations of the various islands circled, and viewed some of the lovely "cottages" along the cliffs, but then were enthralled with the video presentation of "Diver Ed'. He dives to the sea floor to collect specimens of starfish, lobsters, sea cucumber (the source of chondroitin!), and other life forms which we then were permitted to touch and examine closely before they were returned to their habitat. "Diver Ed" has a great partner in his wife, who gives a running commentary of what we are seeing on the video screen. It is a true bargain and delight and we were privileged to have the opportunity! | We're a group of 12 women hikers. Everyone loved it. This is our 4th trip with Ed and Edna, and they are great. Great hands-on experience, great entertainment, great personalities. We've recommended this trip to everyone. | ||||||

| DIver Ed is one of those lucky guys who really enjoy their job! He is as fun as he is informative, showing us sea creatures that he brings from the floor of the ocean to his passengers comfortably seated in his fine boat. Hold lobsters, crabs, sea cucumbers, sea stars and more! The cruise takes you by Egg Island where seals are basking in the sun and close enough for some real good pictures. We even saw some young eagles on another of the islands we passed! | ||||||

Kid focused boat ride opportunity

| Last year we went on a lobster boat ride with our 2 children, aged 2 & 4. My husband enjoyed it, but I spent most of the time trying to not have the kids be disruptive or fall over board. They were engaged for about 5 minutes. This year we went with Diver Ed. The focus was on the kids. They had a blast. The 5 year old said she loved pushing Diver Ed off the boat and the pictures we took show how much they enjoyed picking up sea stars, lobsters and crabs. I enjoyed myself much more and the kids did too. We all did plenty of laughing while learning a lot about sea creatures. To fully appreciate this trip your kids can't mind getting a little wet. If trying to get out on the water in Bar Harbor with young children, I highly recommend Diver Ed's dive-in theater. | ||||||

| ANYONE GOING TO BAR HARBOR SHOULD GO ON THIS BOAT. DIVER ED, HIS WIFE (AND THE DOGS) ARE SO MUCH FUN. THE KIDS ON THE BOAT WERE HAVING A GREAT TIME AND ALSO LEARNING ALL ABOUT THE SEA CREATURES DIVER ED (AND LIL ED) BROUGHT UP THE THE DEEP. | ||||||

| Diver Ed and Captain Evil (wife Edna) kept us entertained and informed through the trip. The ranger on board was really a bonus; we can't imagine the trip without her, too. Our children, ages 10 and 14, enjoyed the trip and holding creatures from the sea. | ||||||

| We are locals and had been interested in going on the boat with Ed for years and finally did last week. It was so much fun, great for both kids...Ed was silly and funny and non-intimidating enough for 4 year old, but wild and wacky so that my 8 year son thought he was really cool and was spouting sea creature facts all the next day. Now he wants to take diving lessons! Very unique way to get to know our island's unique ecosystem and learn a little about the sea and how many people make a living here in Maine. | ||||||

| Diver Ed's cruise is essentially split into two segments - the underwater collection part, transmitted live to the boat with video and audio, and the "show and tell" segment, where he explains his findings to the group. The first part is where the theater comes in - he had the kids in stitches with his silly underwater commentary and mock encounters between the sea creatures and his little diver mascot/figurine, Mini-Ed. After he brings up the creatures, he and his assistant (Dr. Evil, actually quite nice) sort them into touch tanks and Diver Ed shows and talks about each one before allowing everyone to swarm the tanks. The show and tell part, while still quite funny, managed to impart a lot of information to the group. My family loved the cruise - definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Bar Harbor. The kids loved holding all the sea creatures, and Diver Ed's energy and enthusiasm were infectious A must-do in my book! | ||||||

| When I got on the boat there were several children and it was feared I'd not enjoy being with so many little ones. How wrong could one person be? Diver Ed and Captain Evil are so very knowledgeable.....and extremely entertaining!! Even at my age I learned things about the ocean and the creatures therein. I would recommend this excursion to anyone who would listen!!! Thanks for a great afternoon!! | ||||||
