Fun, educational entertainment at a decent value!

The Dive-in Theatre is a must for anyone staying in the area. My family, friends and I had great times, each getting something a bit different from the experience. We've attended several years in a row now and have also introduced friends and family to this close up and hands on entertaining boat tour. If you will be in the area I would try to see him sooner than later and be certain to make advance reservations as I have found this tour has been selling out with the increase in popularity. They also provide a decent discount for children and groups. Diver Ed and his crew are safety conscious and friendly professionals with a passion for the environment. They use state-of-the-art technology and along with many years of knowledge of the ocean to safely guide the this fun tour. I understood that at least two of the crew were former teachers who have continued their balanced educational outreach with this very fun and interactive venue. Diver Ed is as enthusiastic an entertainer as I have ever seen. I'd be surprised if he isn't being seriously courted for his own TV show if they could ever pry him away from this beautiful location. We'll be back!

This was an awesome experience hands-down. I highly recommend it for those with children. Diver Ed did a great job. The kids loved his demonstrations as well as the hands-on experience. Although the excursion seemed a bit pricey at first, it was well worth the money in the end. You may want to bring raincoats for the kids as they will definitely get wet from the demonstrations!

Loved it. Not sure who loved it more the adults or the kids. A fascinating concept to watch DiverEd under the water and get a true perspective of sea creatures habitat. Since I'm not sure I'll ever scuba dive this was a way to explore an area of our world I'd otherwise never see. Diver Ed and the ranger were very knowledgeable about what we were seeing and great with explaining to adults and kids! We went on a cloudy/foggy day and it was a good activity since we may not have seen much of Acadia that day. Also neat to see how the harbor can become all fogged in.

this is our second trip to Diver Ed and he did not disappoint. The kids really love the experience and we could not visit Bar harbour without going to see the Dive in theater! Even in the rain it was great. Just expect that your kids will get wet and mucky and be patient with the crowded boat- it is worth it- have fun!

Great activity for young children.

We ave taken several of the National Park Park Ranger boat cruises on past visits to such as the Baker Island cruise, this one with Diver Ed is the best for little kids. Diver Ed, his wife Captain Evil and the Park Ranger put on a fun and informative boat cruise. After finding a good place to anchor, Diver Ed puts on his diving suit and goes under water to find lobsters, crabs, star fish and sea cucumbers to bring back up to the boat. Also an under water camera in dropped to him so the we can see what he sees under water on a big projection screen on the boat. This boat cruise was a fun activity for everyone. Boat cruise was during last week of August 2008.

Fun and educational cruise

Diver Ed is not shy about releasing his inner 10-year-old. That makes him entertaining to children, teens and adults. (Imagine John Belushi in a dry suit..) The national park ranger, Eleanor, was informative and funny as well. A great afternoon.

We had 5 adults and 5 kids in our group. The kids ranged from 2 - 7. The program was a little over the two-year olds' heads, but the four year-old, five year-old and seven year-old had a great time. And it was educational, too. Thanks, Diver Ed!

Kid focused boat ride opportunity
Fri, Sep 4  1:30 PM mbmcquil Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
Last year we went on a lobster boat ride with our 2 children, aged 2 & 4. My husband enjoyed it, but I spent most of the time trying to not have the kids be disruptive or fall over board. They were engaged for about 5 minutes. This year we went with Diver Ed. The focus was on the kids. They had a blast. The 5 year old said she loved pushing Diver Ed off the boat and the pictures we took show how much they enjoyed picking up sea stars, lobsters and crabs. I enjoyed myself much more and the kids did too. We all did plenty of laughing while learning a lot about sea creatures. To fully appreciate this trip your kids can't mind getting a little wet. If trying to get out on the water in Bar Harbor with young children, I highly recommend Diver Ed's dive-in theater.

Terrific 3 hour adventure!

The cruise sails from College of the Atlantic, which is fascinating in its own right. The program is excellent for adults who have an interest in Maine sea life and enjoy a cruise. The Park Ranger was both enthusiastic and very knowledgeable. Not only did we see eider ducks, gray & harbor seals, dolphins, gulls (of course), heard about the bird populations of the various islands circled, and viewed some of the lovely "cottages" along the cliffs, but then were enthralled with the video presentation of "Diver Ed'. He dives to the sea floor to collect specimens of starfish, lobsters, sea cucumber (the source of chondroitin!), and other life forms which we then were permitted to touch and examine closely before they were returned to their habitat. "Diver Ed" has a great partner in his wife, who gives a running commentary of what we are seeing on the video screen. It is a true bargain and delight and we were privileged to have the opportunity! Thanks!
