A must see for kids of all ages
Tue, Jul 29, 08   1:30 PM jeanniec Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
Done with flair and fun, this educational and entertaining sea excursion is WAY more engaging than any old whale watch. I recommend going on a tuesday or thursday when the ride is an hour longer with the additional commentary of an expert from Acadia National Park. It was the highlight of the trip for my 2 boys, ages 9 &12. Plan ahead and make your reservations for this fantastic adventure - I wont give any details because i dont want to spoil it for people - but just know you and your kids will see and maybe feel some of the most interesting sealife in the atlantic ocean.

My 6 1/2 year daughter loved the entire time - from the minute we walked down to the boat until we got off it!! Diver Ed explained everything very clearly and was able to make the whole ride enjoyable. My daughter didn't say once she was bored. He was WOOHOO funny.

Vacation Highlight for 4-year-old AND adults

The "Dive In Theater" experience was a huge hit with our family--which included a preschooler, parents, and grandparents. We went out our first day in Bar Harbor and we've talked about some aspect of the trip every day since. Diver Ed is phenomenal--adept at engaging both kids and adults with his enthusiasm and wit. Despite her nickname, Captain Evil was warm and informative--our daughter was convinced that she runs the show, because Diver Ed probably isn't too good at following directions. She and Deckhand Dick provided amusing color commentary while Diver Ed trawled the harbor's bottom or was otherwise occupied. Our daughter has sensory integration dysfunction and is often fearful of/repelled by novel sensory experiences (touch and sound, especially), so although she was looking forward to the "Dive In," we weren't sure how she would do. Diver Ed invites all the children to come close and actively participate in the animal presentation--but afterwards, he, DH Dick and CE circulate with the animals to all onboard to see in a very non-threatening way. Our daughter touched both the sea star and lobster during this portion of the program. Touching the animals was a big deal for her--and it has deepened her interest in the oceans and sealife. Aside from the opportunity to view firsthand the abundance of life in the harbor, it was amazing (as an adult) to learn about the technical challenges of this unique enterprise. I will recommend the "Dive In" experience to EVERY PERSON I KNOW headed for Mount Desert Island--and plan to return on future visits to the area.

Brilliant!

"Diver Ed" brilliantly blends teaching and silly entertainment that captures the attention of guests of all ages. My husband and I attended his show many years ago on his original boat. We agreed at that time that when we had kids, we would definitely be back. This trip was the first for our 2 and 3.5 year old children. Both kids were captivated, participated and had a blast (as were the adults in our group).

We were referred to your Diver Ed excursion from friends who spend some time in Bar Harbor every year. You did not disappoint. My children completely enjoyed this trip and it was worth the time and money. We also learned about sea creatures, to add to all the fun!

My kids enjoyed everything from Eddie's crazy humor to handling the different sea creatures to watching "mini Ed " on the video screen. It was a lot of fun for us adults, too! Ed & his wife "Captain Evil" made all of us feel welcome and included. All in all a great experience.

Diver Ed was very enjoyable and educational.

The Diver Ed activity includes a nice boat cruise; viewing of seabirds, eagles, seals, islands, and a lighthouse; and, the highlight, participation via live videofeed in Diver Ed's exploration of the ocean floor. This offered a great look at the creatures which live under the sea, particularly when many of them were brought aboard the ship for close-up viewing and even touching! The combination of presentations by Diver Ed, his wife (the boat captain), and the National Park ranger made the information educational and entertaining, a nice mix. Our children ranged in age from nine to fourteen and all enjoyed the cruise very much. The boat crew was very attentive to comfort, adjusting plastic window sheeting as needed when water spray started to blow into the boat and get passengers wet. They seemed to genuinely enjoy showing folks the sea creatures and took care to be sure everyone had plenty of time to examine everything. While this cruise was a bit pricey, we were out for three and a half hours, so we felt it was money well spent, given the time we had out on the water and the things we learned.

Diver Ed was both fun and educational. Our 8 year old had a great time even though he wouldn't touch the lobster. He especially loved the dogs. I would definitely recommend it to families with children. It was entertaining for the adults as well.

Very entertaining - with a great sense of humor; Ed was very knowledgable yet presented his information in such a kid-friendly, humorous way! The kids just loved it (ages 4 and 6) and played for a long time with the sea animals. They were so excited and talked about it a lot. The video underwater was wonderful - I have never seen some of these animals. Great camera!

Driver Ed was funny, friendly, and very entertaining while sharing his knowledge and passion for sea critters. My husband and kids and myself all agree this was our favorite part of our entire trip to Maine! Thank you so much, Ed and Edna, for sharing your life's passion with us! What a fantastically fun time!!!

Fun and learning with Diver Ed

Diver Ed is a wonderful family activity in Bar Harbor. Ed himself is funny and the kids on board loved him. The kids get to hold, touch, or even kiss some of the creatures Ed brings up from the sea floor, and it doesn't hurt that you learn a thing or two about sea life in the process. I highly recommend this excursion if you have young children.

A fantastic experience
Thu, Sep 11, 08   1:30 PM IreneHeishma Female 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
This was our family's first trip North from Maryland. We were with our son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren ages 9 and 6. Diver Ed and his "crew" were very educational and kept all of our attention throughout the trip. It was exciting to see seals, an eagle, and a lighthouse on the way to the diving area. Being able to watch Diver Ed suit up and his manner of interaction with all of us, especially the children, made us all anxious to see what he would be bringing up after his dive. As he walked around the bottom and we watched him put the sea creatures in his bag (having the screen to view on the ship was great), we couldn't wait to see them--Sea Cucumbers, star fish, sun fish of many colors, lobster, and many other living organisms. We highly recommend Diver Ed. He doesn't appear to advertise as much as the other sightseeing trips, but it is well worth the money. Friends recommended him to us before we left for Maine, and we were very grateful.
