If I was only going to do one thing in BAR HARBOR with or without kids this would be it. Diver Ed was funny and educational. We ALL loved it. It was real!!!! So opposite of Disney. Loved everything about it. His passion for the ocean was contagious. Would definitely do it again!!!!!!!!!

This is the 2nd time we've gone out on Diver Ed's boat and our kids love it. Diver Ed, Captain Evil and Deckhand Dick are wonderful educators and entertainers. We go to Maine every summer and Diver Ed is always top our list. Our 4 and 6 year old boys love it -- we love it too. Pure joy.

Very fun and well prepared!

Our group consisted of my 80-year-old mother, myself, my husband, and our 3-year-old son. Diver Ed and Captain Edna were very attentive to my mother with helping her get on and off the boat. They were very good with my son as well. We all had a great time. My son especially loved handling the sea cucumbers and starfish that Diver Ed brought up. Unfortunately, this trip showed that I get seasick. This occurred while Diver Ed was diving, so there was no way to get me to shore. Captain Edna immediately provided me with Seabands accupressure bracelets which she had on board, which helped greatly, but not quite enough. She then produced Dramamine and a bottle of water for me. She and the deck hand, Libby, were very concerned and kept a close watch on me while staying calm and continuing with the show for the rest of the passengers. When Diver Ed got back on the boat, Captain Edna quietly alerted him to the situation and they were prepared to cut short the trip if necessary, but the combination of the bracelets and Dramamine were sufficient for the show to go on. Both Diver Ed and Captain Edna checked in with me frequently for the remainder of the trip. I cannot speak highly enough of them for their concern, calm handling, and preparedness for this episode I have only one cautionary comment (other than taking Dramamine ahead of time if you think you might get seasick). If you do not like dogs, this is not the trip for you. In addition to all the people on the boat, there are two large (and friendly) Newfoundland dogs aboard. Quarters get a bit crowded at times, and the dogs aren't above sticking very large heads into your lap for attention. I like dogs, and it didn't bother me, but it might be a cause of concern for some people.

A great time!

Diver Ed was extremely engaging - you can tell he loves what he does. He's great with the kids - really silly and fun. My son is 4 years old and on the autism spectrum. Although he was distracted during the boat ride, he loved getting to touch all the sea life and when we ask him what he liked about Maine he says "the crabs, the lobsters and the cocoon" (meaning the sea cucumber). I would definitely recommend.

Great boat trip for adults and children

We attended the trip with children; however, I would have enjoyed it just as much as a couple on a date. Diver Ed was very knowledgeable and personable. I was impressed when he greeted each guest by name and asked a few questions about them. His presentation of the animals was not only educational but spontaneous and entertaining. I would highly recommend this excursion for all ages. It was one of the highlights of our New England vacation.

Diver Ed was great

We really enjoyed the Diver Ed experience. It was not the greatest weather day, but we were so happy we decided to go forward with the trip. The ticket process with Zerve was great. Diver Ed and Captain Evil were fantastic. I think that the kids - we had 5 adults and 5 kids in our group - really enjoyed themselves. The concept of Ed diving with the digital camera and then bringing up stuff for the kids to touch and feel was unique. If there was one thing that I would comment on from a negative perspective it would be the dogs on the boat. One of my children is pretty petrified of dogs. While they were out of the way (up front) for some of the trip, things were fine. But, during the times they were out in the boat area, he was a nervous wreck. Newfoundlands are really big dogs and to my 7 year old, it was distracting. Not sure if it is practical to keep them stowed for a whole trip, but we could have done without the dogs. All in all, this was a great way to spend a couple of hours. Diver Ed was personable, funny and even educational!

Dive-In and Experience Time of Life

Out of all the wonderful things Maine has to offer, this is a must do for the entire family. The majestic views from the boat, to the veiwing of under water life, to the opportunity to touch and feel the sea creatures, to mini Ed. The crew was awesome and ED was something else. I can honestly say he loves his job and ocean life. I am glad my daughter found you on the web. If and when we come back, we will be booking a trip on the Dive-in-Theater. Thanks a million.

This adventure was the perfect way to see the part of Acadia National Park that people rarely get to see: the ocean life just off the coast.

Diver Ed never fails to please!

We have had the pleasure of going on the Dive-In Theater at least four times over the last ten years. It never fails to please our whole family - including children and grandparents. Ed was using Mini-Ed number 21 on our first trip. Now that he is on number 78 it is still wonderful. Might even say it gets better and better every time. Looking forward to another return trip.... And.... love the dogs!

Dive-In Theater was one of the most unique vacation experiences of my life. Diver Ed is obviously a really smart guy who loves what he does. The presentation was both highly educational and extemely entertaining for me and my kids.

Loved it. Not sure who loved it more the adults or the kids. A fascinating concept to watch DiverEd under the water and get a true perspective of sea creatures habitat. Since I'm not sure I'll ever scuba dive this was a way to explore an area of our world I'd otherwise never see. Diver Ed and the ranger were very knowledgeable about what we were seeing and great with explaining to adults and kids! We went on a cloudy/foggy day and it was a good activity since we may not have seen much of Acadia that day. Also neat to see how the harbor can become all fogged in.

Excellent cruise for families

My wife and I were looking for a cruise that our child would find interesting. The Dive-In Theater cruise fit the bill. Diver Ed and the Acadia National Park Ranger were friendly and entertaining. Our child loved watching the video being sent up to the boat by Diver Ed. She also enjoyed holding starfish, lobsters, crabs, snails, and a sea cucumber when Diver Ed came back to the surface. We HIGHLY recommend this cruise to anyone!

A trip aboard the Starfish Enterprise was so much fun. Diver Ed is as interesting as the many varied sea creatures he brings to the surface for learning and laughs. We will go again!

Fantastic activity-loved by kids, enjoyed by adults
Mon, Aug 31  1:30 PM patrici2 Female 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
Diver Ed's cruise is essentially split into two segments - the underwater collection part, transmitted live to the boat with video and audio, and the "show and tell" segment, where he explains his findings to the group. The first part is where the theater comes in - he had the kids in stitches with his silly underwater commentary and mock encounters between the sea creatures and his little diver mascot/figurine, Mini-Ed. After he brings up the creatures, he and his assistant (Dr. Evil, actually quite nice) sort them into touch tanks and Diver Ed shows and talks about each one before allowing everyone to swarm the tanks. The show and tell part, while still quite funny, managed to impart a lot of information to the group. My family loved the cruise - definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Bar Harbor. The kids loved holding all the sea creatures, and Diver Ed's energy and enthusiasm were infectious A must-do in my book!
