A great experience for all ages

Very entertaining - with a great sense of humor; Ed was very knowledgable yet presented his information in such a kid-friendly, humorous way! The kids just loved it (ages 4 and 6) and played for a long time with the sea animals. They were so excited and talked about it a lot. The video underwater was wonderful - I have never seen some of these animals. Great camera!

Amazing Experience

We have three children (2 four year old boys and a 6 year old daughter). This trip was the highlight of our vacation for them - and a big highlight for us, too. Diver Ed and his wife are fabulous with kids, and the experience is one you can not create for yourselves. My children held starfish, sea stars, sea cucumbers, lobsters and crabs. They loved seeing the live video camera of Diver Ed on the ocean floor, and learned a lot about the marine life in Maine. We will definately go back!

Fantastic! Diver Ed, Captain Evil, Mini-Ed, and the pups are not to be missed. It was a perfect blend of education, comedy, and natural wonders. It was one of the high points of our trip to Bar Harbor.

Unique and Entertaining Experience

Diver Ed's Dive-In Theater was a blast for our entire family! Ed and his crew were friendly and entertaining with a fun sense of humor. His sense of adventure was contagious, and we all learned new things about diving and the ocean life he brought up for us to see on the boat. We were able to hold starfish, sea-cucumbers, lobsters, sand dollars, and more. Watching him on the screen and hearing his commentary while he was exploring the abundant underwater sea life was fascinating, knowing he was right underneath us! It was one of the most memorable parts of our vacation. Highly recommended, especially for families with kids!

Highly educational in a fun and interactive way

I would highly recommend the "Dive In Theater Boat Cruise of Bar Harbor" to anyone, adult or child, but especially for families looking for quality experiences and school groups. Diver Ed and Captain Evil and staff are true professionals who seem to have a deep concern for safety and security, but know how to teach groups in an absolutely fun, educational, and participatory way. When we get to immerse ourselves in an experiential manner and walk away actually remembering facts and details, it is a truly educational and memorable experience. The Dive In Theatre also teaches kindness, love, and a deep concern for our watery environments. My only recommendation is perhaps the person who gives the initial commentary while the boat is working it's way to the diving spot, be more professional, perhaps a trained tour guide. Our gentleman was fun, but did not introduce himself, made some comments that were judgemental about wealthy families on MDI, held personal conversations with children while still on microphone, so not everyone was privvy to what was being said. Other than that (which is pretty minimal), it was a truly memorable experience.

We were camping in Acadia and went on a trip with Diver Ed and Captain Evil. The whole trip was perfect in every way. Diver Ed and Captain Evil and knowledgeable, energetic, and caring. They are skilled at handling children (and adults) with a gentle hand but keeping the right balance of chaos and order. The camera they use to show what is going on under th sea is spectacular. We loved every minute of the trip and plan to return next year and send as many people as we can on this wonderful adventure.

WE HAD SEEN THE SHOW LAST YEAR WITH OUR 9 YEAR OLD SON. WHEN WE MADE OUR TRIP THIS YEAR, THIS SHOW WAS ON THE TOP OF THE LIST TO DO AGAIN. I CAN'T COUNT THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE WE TOLD ABOUT THE SHOW, NOT BEING ABLE TO GET THE REAL JIST OF IT. WE TOTALLY ENJOYED IT AND WE ALL WILL LOOK FORWARD TO NEXT YEAR WHEN WE COULD SEE IT AGAIN. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK.

Best Tour for Kids and Adults Alike!
Wed, Aug 27, 08   9:30 AM cathyv47 Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
My husband and I were hesitant to book this tour (8/27/08) thinking our kids (9 and 11) were maybe a bit too old. It was my daughter's birthday and she wanted to go fishing. But 4 hours on a fishing boat was way too long and we all decided to try this instead. Both she and my son thoroughly enjoyed themselves! Ed and Edna and Dick were so great with the kids and I think the adults had as much fun as anyone. Mini Ed was our personal favorite! My kids enjoyed this trip WAY more that the whale watch trip. If you have young kids, this is the trip for you. p.s. Ed - Jennifer says thanks for making this the best thing about her 9th birthday! Maybe next time we'll get her to wear that sea star tower.

Vacation Highlight for 4-year-old AND adults

The "Dive In Theater" experience was a huge hit with our family--which included a preschooler, parents, and grandparents. We went out our first day in Bar Harbor and we've talked about some aspect of the trip every day since. Diver Ed is phenomenal--adept at engaging both kids and adults with his enthusiasm and wit. Despite her nickname, Captain Evil was warm and informative--our daughter was convinced that she runs the show, because Diver Ed probably isn't too good at following directions. She and Deckhand Dick provided amusing color commentary while Diver Ed trawled the harbor's bottom or was otherwise occupied. Our daughter has sensory integration dysfunction and is often fearful of/repelled by novel sensory experiences (touch and sound, especially), so although she was looking forward to the "Dive In," we weren't sure how she would do. Diver Ed invites all the children to come close and actively participate in the animal presentation--but afterwards, he, DH Dick and CE circulate with the animals to all onboard to see in a very non-threatening way. Our daughter touched both the sea star and lobster during this portion of the program. Touching the animals was a big deal for her--and it has deepened her interest in the oceans and sealife. Aside from the opportunity to view firsthand the abundance of life in the harbor, it was amazing (as an adult) to learn about the technical challenges of this unique enterprise. I will recommend the "Dive In" experience to EVERY PERSON I KNOW headed for Mount Desert Island--and plan to return on future visits to the area.

My 5 and 7 year old grandchildren were visiting me in Bar Harbor this summer and I booked us "passage" on Diver Ed's boat - they LOVED it and are still talking about it weeks later. Not only was it an adventure, but they learned about the sea life Diver Ed hauled aboard for them to touch and kiss. They can't wait to visit me and Diver Ed again next summer!

Great Adventure

This trip with Diver Ed and crew was GREAT. We had three generations on the trip and everyone had a ball. Diver Ed is exceptional with the kids (whether they are young or young of heart). I know it is something my grandkids will remember and talk about for years. I would highly recommend it to anyone. We would go again. My grandson has Aspergers (on the Autism Spectrum) and he felt a part of the trip and had a great time, his mother is a Speech Pathologist and she was very pleased with how DiverEd interacted with her son and all the kids onboard.
