Diver Ed

Diver Ed, Captain Evil Edna, and Deckhand Dick provided a wonderfully fun, educational, and inspirational time on the boat. The wackiness is loved by the kids (and adults, too), but it's obvious that Diver Ed has a clear set of educational objectives and a plan to accomplish those objectives. I saw a lot, learned a lot, and came away impressed with the experience. What was most appreciated by me was that _every_ child's participation was important to Ed and his crew (in other words, the most reserved children received as much attention as the most boisterous). My kids are incredibly reserved, and typically during activities like this they are lost in the loud crowd. That was not the case with Diver Ed. . . he is a man on a mission and he's making sure everyone is on board with him. (and Captain Evil is just about the sweetest person we've ever met. . . she's awesome with the kids!)

I have two young girls and they really enjoyed themselves! Well worth the time.

Diver Ed and Captain Evil put on a very entertaining and educational show. The adults enjoyed it as much as the kids - in fact, there were lots of couples without kids on the trip who were in hysterics. This was a highlight of our week-long visit.

The Dive-in theater boat cruise was absolutely amazing. All family members enjoyed the whole trip and we all learned a lot. I would say this is a must do activity while you are in Bar Harbor.

We are local and had family visiting from out of state. The tour is entertaining from the minute you board the boat until you return. DIver Ed is enthusiastic, energetic and experienced. Captain Evil's narration on the boat of what Dived Ed was discovering on the ocean floor was amazing! All on board were taught to handle the sea creatures properly and we were able to spend a considerable amount of time doing so. I would highly recommend this tour to kids of all ages. Our group had young kids (7 & 11) teenagers (17 & 18) and older kids (40s) and we all had a blast. The Tour is a unique opportunity to view and explore Frenchman's Bay from a different perspective -- and learn a lot in the process. Diver Ed reminded me of (the late) Steve Irwin in his absolute passion for what he does. His infectious energy had us all engaged well before the kids pushed him overboard. I highly recommend this activity for 'kids' of all ages.

Our three generation group all found this trip to be the highlight of our Bar Harbor vacation. Everyone got to participate in the hands on encounter with sea animals and all questions were answered patiently and in ways that we could understand. Watching the diver's finds on the big screen while he worked was amazing because we could see very small creatures greatly magnified. We recommend it most highly.

All of us loved it, from almost forty to only two! They did a great job making it a fun but educational experience! My five year old had his dream come true by being able to handle a live lobster! Wonderful time by all!

We have been going on the trip with Diver-Ed yearly for almost ten years now. It is a family tradition that we look forward to continuing. Our children have always loved it and still do even though they are in their teens now. It is educational, funny and beautiful!

Diver Ed was a very informative and friendly host who made sure there was something for everyone. Unique experience.

This is the second time that I took my grandchildren to see Diver Ed, and we also included my sister and brother. We all had a FANTASTIC trip. The boat ride is short, which is a blessing with many children aboard. It is fascinating to watch Diver Ed explore the deep on the high resolution TV, and Captain Evil's dry humor and knowledge is the perfect complement. I describe Diver Ed as a cross between John Belushi and Jacques Cousteau. My sister said the trip was the highlight of her vacation, and my rating for this activity is A+.

Our family loved this experience which is unique. Great photos of smooching with the sea cucumber mouth--or is it the mouth?

Diver Ed and his wife were excellent with all on board. Eleanor the park ranger was very patient in explaining. the underwater camera is a real plus in learning about the sea floor and the animals there.

This was the fourth time we have gone out on Diver Ed's boat. This year the wind made the ride a bit choppy and we skipped looking for harbor porpoises, but this meant we spent more time at the dive location in the shelter of one of the islands. Every trip Diver Ed finds something different different and we all had a great time. The highlight for me was HD video which included a closeup of two snails fighting. The kids loved the hands on time with the creatures Diver Ed brought up. Every time we come camping at Acadia Diver Ed is the highlight of the trip.
