Fun and Educational
Thu, Jul 23, 09   9:30 AM jmstark Female 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
Diver Ed, Captain Evil, Leviathan (water rescue dog) & Mini Ed (Diver Ed's diving buddy) were entertaining as well as educational. Diver Ed was able to get my boys (1 1/2 and 3 years old) to kiss a crab! We spent most of the boat ride laughing. They had a great camera that allows us to watch what Diver Ed & Mini Ed are doing on the dive and a sound system hooked up so we could hear what Diver Ed was saying and he could hear Captain Evil talking. Mini Ed was very brave as he fought a lobster, a crab and kissed a sea star. This was our second trip. They had a new boat this year which was very nice as all the seating is now protected from the sun and rain.

My kids enjoyed everything from Eddie's crazy humor to handling the different sea creatures to watching "mini Ed " on the video screen. It was a lot of fun for us adults, too! Ed & his wife "Captain Evil" made all of us feel welcome and included. All in all a great experience.

We were referred to your Diver Ed excursion from friends who spend some time in Bar Harbor every year. You did not disappoint. My children completely enjoyed this trip and it was worth the time and money. We also learned about sea creatures, to add to all the fun!

Diver Ed and crew are still the best!

This was our second family excursion with Diver Ed. We went out on the ill-fated "Seal" last year, and were delighted with the "Dive-In Theater." Our two boys, 6 and 9 this year, couldn't wait to go back, this time on the "Starfish Enterprise." The weather was beautiful on the Monday morning in Mid-July that we took our second trip with Diver Ed and Evil Edna. We saw porpoises on our way to the dive site. Ed's humor and teaching while underwater and later back aboard with the sea life he brought up were worth every penny. After we left, we also walked around the beautiful grounds at the College of the Atlantic. If you are in Bar Harbor with kids, the Dive-In Theater should be a "must see."

Kids LOVE Diver Ed!

There are a lot of harbor tours, whale watches, etc. out of Bar Harbor. But if you have kids, this is the tour to go on. Diver Ed is quite a character. He knows sea creatures and keeps the kids engaged. It is both fun and educational. The underwater footage is incredible and the touch tank is great even for the grownups.

Had a great time with Diver Ed. It was extremely foggy, which can only mean that it would be that much more picturesque otherwise. However, the fog had no effect on our enjoyment of the trip. The boat is ship shape and very clean. Diver Ed was wonderfully entertaining for adults and children alike. He has a great way with people and has a ton of energy. All the kids really seemed to be having a ball and we all learned a lot.

Good, but ranger unnecessary

Overall this is a great program. We've been on the Diver Ed program without the ranger and I'd recommend that one over the ranger program. Diver Ed is hillarious and he and his wife are so knowledgable about the area, I didn't think the ranger added much. I wouldn't pay the extra for the ranger again, unless you just wanted a longer boat ride. FYI this is the third year in a row our family has been out with Ed, but the first time with the ranger. I'd rate the program without the ranger 5+ stars.

Outstanding adventure - for kids of all ages

Diver Ed and Captain Evil (Ed's wife Edna) are the talk of the town and you know will know why after one trip. On their new boat - just floated this year (2009), they are well equipped to make an exciting trip out to the local depths. From there you can watch Diver Ed via underwater camera as he goes into the "deep" with his trusty "mini-Ed" side-kick. Together they collect local sea creatures including scallops, crabs, lobsters, sea cucumbers and anything else that swims by. After an entertaining session of Ed encountering the local sea life, he brings it on board (under a special permit by the state of Maine) to allow for children of all ages to touch the creatures. It is two hours of fantastic fun for which we are on our 5th annual trip this year. You will not be disappointed and on the new boat, it is even more stable with easy viewing and plenty of room to engage both Ed and the creatures. Children, Adults and even those elusive teens will have a great time. Bring a camera and remember that on the water it can be cold..
