Diver Ed

This trip was a wonderful experience that was educational, fun and one of a kind!!! The captain and crew were very professional, fun and informative. The ranger was very professional and very well informed!!!!!! They took the time to make the trip a fantastic experience. We saw Bald Eagles, Harbor Seals, etc.. The underwater diver was very well done - Mini Diver Ed was just as great as Diver Ed! Very well done!!!

We recently vacationed in Bar Harbor, ME and the Dive-in Theater was the one activity our entire family enjoyed! My husband and I have two daughters, ages 12 and 16. We opted for Diver Ed's tour even though it was recommended that we take the one with a naturalist as our kids are older. Diver Ed was hilarious and extremely informative. We had fun watching the reactions of the younger children, too. "Evil Edna", Diver Ed's wife, couldn't have been nicer and educated us about all of the sea creatures Diver Ed encountered and even carried them around the boat so the adults in the group could have a chance to see them up close and touch them while the children were handling them at the front of the boat in shallow tanks. After the show, while returning to the dock, we spotted harbor porpoises and harbor seals and Diver Ed and the crew stopped the boat and circled around so we could get more/better views! Clearly Ed and Edna love what they do and their enthusiasm was definitely contagious. I had read reviews and expected this activity to be good but was pleasantly surprised when it surpassed my expectations!

If you plan to take any boat ride while in Bar Harbor, this is the one to take. Very entertaining, even for adults. Kids will love it! Diver Ed and crew make this very interactive and hands on. You can tell they love what they do! You get a boat ride and oceanarium all in one! Well worth the money.

Diver Ed is not shy about releasing his inner 10-year-old. That makes him entertaining to children, teens and adults. (Imagine John Belushi in a dry suit..) The national park ranger, Eleanor, was informative and funny as well. A great afternoon.

My husband and I took our almost 4 year old granddaughter on the cruise. We had a wonderful time!!! My granddaughter was a bit frightened of the sea creatures, and several times Ed came over to her with tiny creatures for her to hold and pet. By the time we left she was proud of herself for petting a lobster! Thank you - we will be making this cruise an annual tradition. PS - we got lost and were late for the boat and they held it a few minutes for us. Great people!

This is a great thing to do for a couple of hours during a vacation. Boat ride wasn't too long. Live camera footage was really cool. Being able to touch the sea creatures was a big hit with everyone.

Very entertaining for the kids but enough information to keep the adults' attention.

We, along with our young children, absolutely loved Diver Ed. What a great way to spend the afternoon- on a boat learning about the ocean- with possibly the most humourous teacher ever!!

We shared a great day with diver Ed. He was extrememly informative and fun and our whole group (ages 11-74) loved it. We even got to see Harbor Seals...what a bonus. It was fun and informative and we would recommend it to anyone visiting this area.

Our son was on the cusp of really enjoying this. At almost 2 this was a perfect activity, boat ride, watching other boats and touching all the sea creatures. He did get bored when diver Ed went under water as he isn't into tv, but the boat gave him plenty of space to walk around. Will do again every time we come

Just the right amount of time - the kids, ages, 5, 7 and 9, all had fun.

Entertaining for all ages!

This is second Diver Ed trip and will not be our last. Everyone with children that visits MDI should go and return on future visits. Dive In theatre is a brilliant concept and fun, memorable event on the water for all. Boat, Captain, Diver Ed, and mini Ed all add to the Discovery experience. Thank you again!

My family and I (4kids and 4 adults) went on this tour. We felt welcome from the get-go!. From the life jacket demo on the Newfoundland dogs, to "Captain Evil", and Diver Ed. All things were explained in a detailed, yet entertaining way. Diver Ed went to collect sea life samples, then we got to see him collect the samples. Diver Ed and Captain Evil give a running commentary.. The people on the boat get to see and touch all the sea life. My 5 year old was not thrilled about being so close to a live lobtster. With Diver Ed's entertaining way, we did persuaded him to touch the lobster (the next day - he got braver and actually touched things at a real tide pool). Captain Evil, explained to the adult members of our party about how old Lobster can get, what kind of research is being done on lobsters to help humans (ie how can they see so far down in the Ocean). The staff is extremely knowledgeable and very willing to share their love of the Sea. I highly recommend this tour for all ages.
