Activity Description
Hobnobbing with Gobs Of Snobs examines the stinkin' rich and dirty money that built Nob Hill. That’s right: San Francisco’s cleanest neighborhood is also her dirtiest! Put on your white gloves and hold your nose high so you don’t catch a whiff of the corruption.
Learn how The Railroad Barons and The Bonanza Kings used insider trading, price gouging, graft, money laundering, forgery, illegal monopolies, and bribery to build their empires from San Francisco’s most exclusive address, Snob Hill—I mean, Nob Hill.
Highlights of this tour include:
- Three survivors of the Great Earthquake and Fire
- The Spite Fence, which separated the Haves from the Have Nots
- Grace Cathedral, a 50-year-old church that doesn’t look a day over 500
- The Clock (that’s right: The Clock)
- The story of how a bartender went from serving champagne to bathing in it
The tour visits some of the City’s hoity-toitiest architecture: you’ll see world-class mansions, hotels, and churches, so please wipe your feet before entering. Don’t forget your monocle!

Meals are not included in the price of the Hob Nobbing tour, but we often stop mid-way for a coffee or snack! Be sure to bring extra cash with you if you're interested in this, and we'll stop if the group is interested.
