a little cheesy, but well worth it

The tour was informative, interactive, and interesting. At times, the tour guide seemed a little...all over the place in his descriptions, which made it hard for us to get the whole picture. Overall, he was knowledgable and enthusiastic about the subject. I would recommend this tour to anyone who is even remotely interested in the 1960's.

Kim and Out in the Castro are Fabulous!

We so enjoyed our Out in the Castro Tour with Kim Larsen. We've tried similar tours in other cities and never had the satisfaction we'd hoped for, but today, we were overly impressed by the quality, quantity and queer sensibility of the Come Out to the Castro tour. Kim was so personable and warm. He really knows his stuff about the Castro. Kim involved everyone in the tour group numerous times throughout the afternoon. He was funny and more importantly, he made the rest of us feel funny, too! Kim had that perfect mix of "I know what I'm talking about" and "I'll verify that" (when he wasn't sure without checking), as well as "What do you know about this?" he was very open to hearing about our relevant experiences, too. Thanks so much for the opportunity to participate in the Come Out to the Castro tour.

Good tour with interesting insights

AJ was a great host for our tour. As locals to the Bay area, we know San Francisco pretty well, but we still learned some interesting tidbits, and saw some back-street scenes that we might otherwise miss. This is a good way for tourists to take in three different areas of the city and learn some good stuff as they do so.

Not our kind of humor
Sun, Jul 13, 08   1:00 PM poko920 Female 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
I heard about this walking tour from Fodor's guidebook. The description said the tour guides were stand-up comedians, and they would have us breathless from laughter. Our guide, Tom, got a couple laughs from us. That was about it. Very nice guy and very informative/knowledgeable about the history of SF. I guess it just wasn't our kind of humor.

A good tour. I and my 16 year old son enjoyed it.

Tom did a good job. He concentrated on the culture more than history which was more interesting than just boring history. Culture also allowed for more jokes. Also liked the large breath of the tour from art history to beatniks.

Kim was superb

Our guide, Kim, had a great sense of humor and a deep knowledge of Castro history. But what was especially impressive was how well he seemed to know today's community and business leaders. We felt lucky to be led by him, and we'd recommend him to anyone!

Not too bad a tour

Anson was the guide. My main criticism is that I wish his voice was louder. Our group consisted of 6 people, but I can't imagine having a larger group and fighting to get close enough to the guide to hear him. I suggest that the guides wear a small mic. Given city noise like traffic and construction it would be helpful. There were times that I could not hear what was being said. Who knows how many tidbits I missed. It would have been nice if at the beginning, he had us all introduce each other. I expected more of a comedian as well. Anson was reasonably funny. Though he had many facts at his fingertips, I was expecting more. Example: the labyrinth at Grace Cathedral, I would have thought he knew more about it. The distance covered was just right, not too long. Maybe my expectations were too high? I don't know. I wouldn't let this experience prevent me from trying a foot tour again, at least one more time.

My grandson and I were delighted with the Tour

We both learned a great deal. I am a native San Franciscan with a fair knowledge of the city and its history. However, I learned many new and interesting facts. I was espciallly pleased about how our guide structured the tour to relate to me and my grandson---a bright 11 year old. Many thanks, Martin Weiner

just OK

I was looking forward to a comedian-led tour but unfortunately this day it was led by an actor. Nothing against him, but when you're expecting a wise-cracking tour guide and the tour takers have more of a sense of humor than the guide.. well it's just not quite what was advertised.

Took us back to the '60s.
Thu, Jun 19, 08   11:00 AM marcwladis Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
Our guide seemed to have done his homework on the era. (He looked like he could have lived through the '60s in Haight Ashbury.) He provided lots of interesting trivia, and most importantly, helped us to understand the political, social and cultural forces that shaped the times. (The music was a nice touch.) The way he involved the participants of the walk was enjoyable. There wasn't as much comedy in his talk as I'd expected, but better that than overloading it with attempts at comedy just for the sake of comedy. I also think it was somewhat overpriced, but it was a worthwhile way to spend a couple of hours.

We enjoyed the tour with tour guide, Kurt. The tour was informative & fun at a leisurely pace. Kurt used trivia and games to keep us on our toes.
