a little cheesy, but well worth it

The tour was informative, interactive, and interesting. At times, the tour guide seemed a little...all over the place in his descriptions, which made it hard for us to get the whole picture. Overall, he was knowledgable and enthusiastic about the subject. I would recommend this tour to anyone who is even remotely interested in the 1960's.

The tour guide was very good and very respectul of the group...... We should have toured more of the residential area of the Castro with the beautiful architecture and views. The Historical background was the best...

My grandson and I were delighted with the Tour
Tue, Jun 24, 08   1:00 PM rambeb70 Male 70+ Local Individual
We both learned a great deal. I am a native San Franciscan with a fair knowledge of the city and its history. However, I learned many new and interesting facts. I was espciallly pleased about how our guide structured the tour to relate to me and my grandson---a bright 11 year old. Many thanks, Martin Weiner

My wife and I enjoyed our tour and the tour guide was excellent! He showed us all of the Castro district and the walk was fun. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone who wants to see and learn about an interesting neighborhood of San Francisco.

Targeted to the Gay Community
Sat, Sep 5  2:00 PM cardozabarb Female 60-69 Combination Group of Friends
The instructor was knowledgeable and entertaining but the tour attendees were all gay except for me, my husband and my 2 guests. My guests were not comfortable with that. I didn't know my guests would be so narrow minded (they aren't from California). They wanted to leave halfway through. (Their loss). So potential tour attendees should be advised that this tour is highly popular with same sex couples and if they have a problem with that, they should stay at home, watch Milk on DVD, and get an attitude adjustment. I thought the tour was authentic and I felt better informed.

Viewing the Haight through music

The tour was informative and fun -- although it focused primarily on the music scene of the 1960's-'70s. I would have enjoyed learning about other aspects of that era, as well.

Our tour guide was AJ, and she made the tour a fantastic experience. With a blend of humor and knowledge, we explored the history and legends of Nob Hill, Chinatown and North Beach. The tour lasted longer than 3 hours, and all our questions were answers and anticipated. We recommend this highly.

Who knew about all the yellow brick in China Town?
Mon, Sep 7  1:00 PM Suzramsey Female 50-59 Local Family Without Children
I was born in SF (3rd generation), spending only the first 9 years of my life there. As an adult, my family enjoys regular trips to the city for dinner, shows and other activities. The Whole Shebang was quite informative and Tom pointed out so many things that have been right in front of our eyes for years but never noticed! The city is magical and the stories of how it came to be were very enlightening. To our surprise, our tour was only the two of us with Tom - too bad - it would have been fun to have experienced this with a larger group.

Tour was indeed fun, but somehow from the website photos I expected some six foot plus drag queen or some other equally over-the-top character. Updating vendor website (FOOTtours), maybe with photos of the area?? may be more authentic. Rest assured, though, the guide is great and so is the tour. Much of the information covered was of a serious and sobering nature so the lighthearted approach quite literally provided comic relief. Wouldn't want to do this tour any other way. Guide gave plenty of information in excellent detail. He wove together many trivial bits into a cohesive "greater than the parts" whole. Tour was a good pace, both in delivery of information and ground covered, but felt a little rushed initially due to late start waiting for one no-show. Kim was very attentive and gave us a requested break of a quite reasonable length of time. He was patient with all questions and thoroughly knowledgeable. I learned so many new things, I wish I'd taken notes to remember it all! As an older straight woman, I never felt unwelcome. Kim made an effort to briefly speak with each and every one of us personally. My daughter and I even enjoyed arriving early and having lunch at our designated meeting place. Yes, I would definitely recommend this tour to adults of any orientation. When visiting San Francisco, this is not to be missed!

Rockin' and Rollin' in the Haight
Sun, Aug 2  1:00 PM Kelleyd Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
Our group consisted of my husband, myself, our adult daughter and her boyfriend. We met our guide, Ken, at the Peace Cafe and from there experienced a wonderful blast from the past on a two hour tour through Haight Ashbury, The guide held little contests that you could partake in if you chose, which were fun. The route that our guide took was just perfect. Somehow or another he managed to avoid any steep hills and still show us a wide cross section of the Haight. I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in the hippie era or for those who just love to look at all the amazing homes build there!

My friends and I had decided to fly to San Francisco for a long weekend trip. We found the Whole Shebang tour on line and decided to give it a try. It was a very good choice. Our guide was fun and informative. We took the tour our first day and it helped to show us the sights and history of San Francisco so that for the rest of our trip we had a better understanding of the city. We would highly recommend this tour. We did have one problem. We were given stick on name tags at the beginning of the walk and when it came to the end, one of my friends could not get it off of her jacket. Don't wear the name tags.

Haight-Ashbury History, Architecture, & Dissent
Fri, May 8  1:00 PM emontgomery Female 50-59 Local Family Without Children
The Haight-Ashbury tour is a combination of early and mid-20th century history but its the architecture that steals the show. The neighborhoods are some of the most exciting architecture in The City and a neverēnding feast of craftsmanship and detail. Our tour guide informed us of the early history and also the lore of early San Francisco rock and roll. He readily took cues for how much comedy to insert into the tour by his quick understanding of people. Our family liked the history and trivia facts more so than the comedy so we learned a lot from our guide and also kept the tour pace very customized to our needs. The guide had an I-pod with a variety of sound clips, which I would have loved to hear more of, but for my parents, it was just enough. In my opinion even though the Summer of Love, which disintegrated into chaos with the influx of kids, music, and drugs should not be overlooked in its importance at that time -- the anti-war movement -- and in the long run was morally worthy of a lot of protest. Great tour -- will do it again when other friends come to town.
