just OK

I was looking forward to a comedian-led tour but unfortunately this day it was led by an actor. Nothing against him, but when you're expecting a wise-cracking tour guide and the tour takers have more of a sense of humor than the guide.. well it's just not quite what was advertised.

Who knew about all the yellow brick in China Town?
Mon, Sep 7  1:00 PM Suzramsey Female 50-59 Local Family Without Children
I was born in SF (3rd generation), spending only the first 9 years of my life there. As an adult, my family enjoys regular trips to the city for dinner, shows and other activities. The Whole Shebang was quite informative and Tom pointed out so many things that have been right in front of our eyes for years but never noticed! The city is magical and the stories of how it came to be were very enlightening. To our surprise, our tour was only the two of us with Tom - too bad - it would have been fun to have experienced this with a larger group.

Interesting flashback to the 1960's
Mon, Jun 29  1:00 PM vhuebner Female 40-49 Local Group of Friends
The Summer of Love tour is a great find for those of us who can remember the 1960's. It does a good job of recreating what life was like in the Haight during the hippie movement. I took my adult daughter who was fascinated to learn about the Greatful Dead, Janice Joplin, Charles Manson, etc. The best part of the tour was participating in the hippie dancing contest.

Didn't meet expectations

I'd been on many of your tours. Whenever I have family in town we take one of your tours because they are prompt, interesting and funny. This time you missed on all counts. We started about 30 minutes late, the points on the tour were pretty lame and the jokes fell flat. I'll probably take another tour when visitors come but it definately won't be this one.

Haight-Ashbury History, Architecture, & Dissent
Fri, May 8  1:00 PM emontgomery Female 50-59 Local Family Without Children
The Haight-Ashbury tour is a combination of early and mid-20th century history but its the architecture that steals the show. The neighborhoods are some of the most exciting architecture in The City and a neverēnding feast of craftsmanship and detail. Our tour guide informed us of the early history and also the lore of early San Francisco rock and roll. He readily took cues for how much comedy to insert into the tour by his quick understanding of people. Our family liked the history and trivia facts more so than the comedy so we learned a lot from our guide and also kept the tour pace very customized to our needs. The guide had an I-pod with a variety of sound clips, which I would have loved to hear more of, but for my parents, it was just enough. In my opinion even though the Summer of Love, which disintegrated into chaos with the influx of kids, music, and drugs should not be overlooked in its importance at that time -- the anti-war movement -- and in the long run was morally worthy of a lot of protest. Great tour -- will do it again when other friends come to town.

In-depth "feet on the ground" tour of Downtown
Thu, May 7  1:00 PM ddekreon Male 40-49 Local Family Without Children
If you like walking and experiencing a city from the ground this tour is for you: walk from Nob Hill, through Union Square, the alleys of Chinatown, and ending in North Beach you really end up with a great feel for the layout and history of San Francisco.

Lots of fun and informative!

We had a great tour leader named Kim, who was chalk full of information and had a great sense of humor. It was a really great way to hang for a couple hours in the Castro!

Viewing the Haight through music
Sat, Apr 11  1:00 PM S_Feldman Female 60-69 Local Group of Friends
The tour was informative and fun -- although it focused primarily on the music scene of the 1960's-'70s. I would have enjoyed learning about other aspects of that era, as well.

Great tour for locals and visitors
Mon, Feb 2  1:00 PM mdp13xav Male 30-39 Local Other
I, a local, had never been on this type of tour and thought it looked interesting when looking for activities for my two visiting nephews (age 19). We all thoroughly enjoyed the tour - it was fun, educational, and a great and different way to view and explore (parts of) the city. Our guide was knowledgeable, funny, easy to follow, and interesting. The tour - history-wise - focused mainly on the original settling of the city plus the rebuilding of the city after the 1906 earthquake/fire. Not that this wasn't interesting, but I think I was expecting a bit more comprehensive historical perspective (like what's been going on over the last 100 years?). I may have misinterpreted the description of the tour... and/or maybe three hours just isn't enough time to cover 160 years ;) I would recommend this tour to anyone - and I'll keep it at the top of my list for all future visitors.

Fair, pleasent, but barely 'comedic'
Tue, Dec 30, 08   1:00 PM mcolburn Male 40-49 Local Couple on a Date
Although it was fun to walk around and hear about the history of the city, the tour wasn't all that humorous. I've had non-comedic tours with as much humor and fun. I'd say that any tour has as much likelihood of being funny as this one was.

Great and interesting tour
Sat, Dec 13, 08   2:00 PM DWientapper Female 40-49 Local Group of Friends
This was my first tour with FOOTtours and in the Castro as well. My friend and I had a great time. Our guide was very informative and to see the place where Harvey Milk once lived and worked was very interesting and affecting. The only thing I would like to criticize is that our tour only lasted 1.5 hours. I assume that there's so much more out there to talk about that I would've preferred to be there a little longer. Besides that I could totally recommend this tour and will try out another one with them in the future.

Learned things about San Francisco that were fun and fascinating. My friends and I are already trying to figure out which tour to do next. Great gift idea!

Good tour with interesting insights

AJ was a great host for our tour. As locals to the Bay area, we know San Francisco pretty well, but we still learned some interesting tidbits, and saw some back-street scenes that we might otherwise miss. This is a good way for tourists to take in three different areas of the city and learn some good stuff as they do so.

A good tour. I and my 16 year old son enjoyed it.
Sun, Jul 13, 08   1:00 PM SuzanneCha Female 40-49 Local Family With Children
Tom did a good job. He concentrated on the culture more than history which was more interesting than just boring history. Culture also allowed for more jokes. Also liked the large breath of the tour from art history to beatniks.
