Enjoyable experience

The food we tasted was very good, but I would have liked to sample additional choices. Our tour guide (Curt), although not a native New Yorker, was excellent , and very well informed. His presentation was humorous, enthusiastic and interesting. As a lifelong New Yorker I appreciated all three.

Let me start by saying that I love everything about NYC and have come back often--for the last 52 years. I try to take at least one walking tour each time I visit... I feel it is the best way to really get to know & feel the particular area. This Chelsea/Meatpacking Tour was wonderful. Our tour guide was great--he was enthusiastic, knowledgable, helpful, and fun. I have already suggested this tour to my New York friends.

This tour and the wonderful guide Todd was one of our favorite events while spending 5 days in NYC. We had a small group of 7 at noon on Sunday which added to our enjoyment. The food tasting was great. We feel like we have been part an event and an area that will become a big tourist attraction in the next years as the words gets out and as the Meat Packing area grows with shops and restaurants. I would recommend it to anyone.

Far better than our expectations. Our guide (Erick?) was informative and funny. The pace was great, we saw a corner of NYC that we didn't know and had some great food as well. After talking to friends who live in NYC and thought htey knew the area, we realize we now know it much better. Thanks

Visiting a New Frontier

While having been in NYC a hundred times, I had never been to Chelsea Market and the Meat Packing District. It was a neighborhood that your mother told you to avoid, (part of the appeal no doubt). I was in town for the Big East basketball tourney and found this tour via City Search. I am fond of walking tours in NYC, London and wherever I find them. This is the first tour sponsored by Zerve I've taken. First, the sampling of different foods in a wholesale envirnoment was new and fun. Subsequently, I returned to the area the next day for lunch and for dinner at two of the places we had seen on the tour; good food, pricey, "Sex in the City" crowd. Secondly, I enjoyed the "other" discoveries at least as much as the advertised food tour, e.g., High Line Rail, meat on hooks on the sidewalk, Stella McCartney shoe store, Coyotte biker bar. Tour guide's insights re: history and tranistion of neighborhood were very interesting. Also visited an art exhibit in the neighborhood after the tour ended. The tour guide was entusiastic, well informed, and responsive to questions. Group was a good mix of age, sex, interests, etc. The limit of 10 persons per tour, mine was at max, was just right; more would have been a problem of logistics as well as chemistry. This tour costs more than others but the price was about right for the value received. Price is the main reason I did not give this 5 stars. I will take a Zerve tour again and have recommended it to others.

Chelsea Market Tour and Meatpacking district.

First trip to New York City and wanted more of an insiders guide and more depth than just walking through. We met Darrell, our actor/guide on time and we enjoyed his technique to make the group cohesive by saying our names as he made points. We had all of the taste treats promised, a deluxe bathroom break and lots of area info. We enjoyed Darrell's tour very much but wish we had gone on a weekday and not a Sunday due to the crowds inside the market. It would also be great if the tour used those wireless microphones, which would also ensure we could all hear all the time. Darrell was not at fault as the crowds moving around us were just loud moving past us. We asked ourselves if we could have walked through the market on our own and discovered what was good about the products we sampled and the answer was no. We would not have even known to try these foods. We got recommendations on local places to eat and enjoyed going up on the Highline park. The last restaurant where we sat and had a small plate of pasta and bolognese sauce was just ok. They had an opportunity to keep us with a wow...we all had only had samples all afternoon...but our lackluster pasta was only half eaten by the lady from Italy and her daughter. Overall enjoyable and would take another.

Our Guide was very informative and had a great personality. Amazed how he could remember 15 names throughout the tour! He made everyone feel welcome and was able to answer all questions. The food was good and there was plenty. Only complaint is that it ended 20 minutes short of the 3 hours.

My husband and I, visiting from Australia, found this tour to be a great introduction to the food on offer at the fabulous Chelsea market. Daryl was highly entertaining and informative and made sure we did not did not go hungry. Fortunately we had been prewarned not to eat lunch before the tour! We wished we had found the market earlier in our stay because there is so much great food on offer, however we were able to spend the following day there, sampling more of the produce and walking the highline. If you like food and are looking for a fun afternoon while eating then I would highly recommend this tour! A definite highlight of our stay in New York!

Not only do you get to try delicious food bites, you enjoy a great journey through the meatpacking district and surrounding area. Bob was a fabulous tour guide and very knowledgeable about the history and evolution of the meatpacking district, Chelsea pier and the Highline. He would give a fun snippet on each restaurant/store before the tasting on how it came to be. The experience offered a good variety of foods to try and we all went away very satisfied with much richer knowledge of the area than any app or web based tour might have given us.
